My alarm went off at 6:00am, an hour and a half before our flight back home. And yeah it was the flyers goal song from the playoffs. Brayden suddenly woke up and looked at me jumping and dancing to my alarm.


Brayden: “you are honestly the best girl ever”

Tori: “oh stawp”

I went over to his side of the bed and tried my best to pull him out. Since he’s almost twice the size of me, it wasn’t going very well.

Tori: “c’mon get up sleepy head!!! We have an exciting day ahead of us!”

Brayden looked at me with his sleepy eyes and gave me a smirk,

Brayden: “Oh you have no idea…”


He finally got up and stumbled into the bathroom to freshen up. I heard him talking on the phone to someone but couldn’t really hear who it was or what he was talking about. A couple minutes passed and Brayden walked out.


Tori: “who was that you were talking to?”

Brayden: “oh it was uh no one.”

Tori: “sure didn’t sound like no one. Don’t lie to me Bray, who was it?!”

Brayden: “Don’t worry your pretty little mind, it all has to do with a surprise!”

Tori: “A surprise?! What is it?!!??”

Brayden: “I can’t tell you silly, you’ll find out soon I promise.”

I gave Bray a sly look and lightly bumped him as I made my way to the bathroom to freshen up.

Tori: “I don’t like secrets bray”

Brayden: “Babe, it’ll be worth it. Trust me.”

I walked out of the bathroom and gave him a smile.

Tori: “ok okaaaay”


Brayden walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist. He gave me a soft kiss on the cheek to reassure this whole waiting thing. I put on a comfy outfit that went along with Bray’s sweatpants and tshirt.

Time was ticking by so I munched down a banana and grabbed an energizing smoothie on the way out. Brayden made a protein smoothie as well. We grabbed all our things and said goodbye to my mom before we left.


Tori’s mom: “Now come back soon you too. Have a safe travel!” She gave Brayden a wink like she knew his secret.

Brayden: “I had a pleasure staying here and meeting you, Ann. Thank you for having me!”

Tori:” Bye momma I love you! I’ll be back soon I promise”

Mom: “I wanna see a nice ring on that girl’s finger when you come back, you hear Brayden!”

Tori: “BYE MOM.”


I closed the door before my mom could say anything else. There is no filter on that woman I swear. I guess that’s where I get it from. Brayden laughed at my mom’s comment and flashed me a smile. We hopped into the car and drove to the airport.


Tori: “So are you going to tell me this secret before our flight home or are you going to make me suffer and wait till after.”

Brayden: “oh babe, you complain too much. You’re gonna find out in a couple of minutes”

We walked toward the flight listings and I searched for Philadelphia to see how much it is but suddenly, Brayden jumped in front of me,

Brayden: “Two tickets for Saskatoon at 7:30, please”

Tori: ”WHAT?! WE’RE GOING TO SASKATOON?”

Brayden ignored my comment and took the tickets from the lady.

Brayden: “shhhh. Thank you.”

Tori: “HELLO, don’t shush me mister!”

Brayden: “surpriseeeee”

Tori: “Oh my god. You’re joking?!”

Brayden: “No I’m not joking! I thought it was a great idea to have you meet my parents before coming home to Philly. Are you mad at me?”

Tori: “No no nooo I’m not mad at you, babe! This is a great surprise thank you”

I gave Brayden a smile and a big hug. I can’t believe I’m going to meet the parents of this beautiful creation. As excited I am, I’m beyond nervous.


We grabbed our things and said goodbye to Los Angeles as we boarded our plane to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Our plane ride is going to take 7 hours so it’s going to be a long flight. As we got in our seats and took off, I put my head phones in and put my music on shuffle. I really don’t do plane rides for long hours so Brayden gave me something to make me fall asleep for a while. Then, I drifted to sleep.


Suddenly I woke up to Brayden nudging my arm.

Brayden: “Welcome to Saskatchewan, babe”


I stretched and rubbed my eyes and sat up a little. I looked out the window and gazed upon the beautiful Saskatchewan. I’ve never been to Saskatoon, nor Saskatchewan and I couldn’t be more than thrilled to experience it with Brayden. About ten minutes later, we arrived in Saskatoon and were getting ready to exit our flight.

When we arrived to the airport, we grabbed our things from the overhead, and exited. In the lobby of the airport, my eyes landed on Brayden’s older brother Luke, and his parents, followed by their younger sisters Macy and Madison. Their parents were so cute and I noticed they were holding a sign that said ‘Welcome Home Brayden and Tori’. Me and Brayden walked over and joined them. His mom quickly gave me a hug and welcomed me. His dad, Jeff, gave me a hand shake and greeted himself and his wife, Rita.


Tori: “It’s a pleasure to meet you! I’m so glad to be here, it’s my first time in Saskatoon!”

Jeff: “Well after tomorrow, you can’t say that anymore! We’re glad to have you.”


After the big meet and greet, and receiving a hug from Luke, following a playful smack on the butt to his younger brother, we made our way to the car and drove to their house. Rita was talking about how she’s a hairdresser and would love to do something with my hair. And then bragged about Jeff and how he’s a firefighter. Macy and Madison were also talking about how I should take them shopping sometime and I agreed. I looked out the window and Saskatoon could honestly not get prettier. There were a lot of tall buildings, but not as tall as Philly, and a beautiful river right by the city. After being in the car for 15 minutes, we arrived at their huge home, a while from the city but still in Sask.

When we walked in, I followed Brayden into the kitchen (his natural habitat) and he found a cake with our name on it. Not surprised at all he found that, his senses were probably drawing him right in. We decided to eat later, once we get settled in. But for now, Brayden and Luke showed me around the house, including their backyard rink and their hockey basement. Then Brayden showed me his room, showing off his red team Canada rug and his bed made out of hockey sticks.


Tori: “I’m in love with the bed, not going to lie. But how many other boys can Say they have a bedroom like this?”

Luke: “the same amount who can say they have a rink in their back yard.”

Brayden: “yeah, which is a lot.”

We all laughed then headed to the kitchen to meet up with the parents again.

Rita: “Tori, you and Brayden can stay in the guest bedroom downstairs, or we can make him sleep in his old bedroom if you like”

Tori: “hahaha it’s up to Brayden”

Luke: “Well we all know what he’s gonna say…”

Brayden: “yeah yeah guest bedroom it is”

Jeff: “ok guys. Me and Rita are going out food shopping, for you all, since we’re leaving tomorrow for a wedding in BC, therefore, sadly it is our last night here. Do you guys need anything in particular?”

Luke: “I think we’re good”

Jeff: “ok then”

After the parents left, Brayden and Luke quickly started talking about throwing a party during their parent’s mini vacation.

Luke: “we need to get Tori wasted, it looks like she could use a break.”

Brayden: “Yeah she deserves one.”

Tori: “whoa whoa don’t I have a say in this?”

Luke: “What are you scared to party with the big boys?”

Tori: “ Oh no, I just don’t think you Canadians can handle all of this”

Brayden: “I’m pretty sure I already handled all of that. Bring it”

Tori: “Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!”


The rest of the day went by pretty fast. After we talked about our party plans and ate the welcome home cake, Mr. and Mrs. Schenn were back from food shopping. Jeff, or Papa Schenn which I like to call him, made a bonfire outside for everyone. Me, Brayden, Luke, and the two sisters all joined in and made smores.

When it was time for bed, Brayden and I headed downstairs to our room. We changed into our pajamas, which was pretty much underwear and a tshirt, and got ready for bed, and our huge party with the boys tomorrow.
