Flightless

Every minute is a minute away.

The next couple of days, while the Penguins were in Philadelphia, were considerably quieter than my first. After the guys vacated our apartment Lucy and I went on a shopping spree, seeing as according to the tracking info on my luggage, they'd only just made it to LA. I needed to buy a new phone anyway, so we went all out and got everything I needed in one trip.

Max called while we were at the mall, letting Lucy know they'd made it safely. They were really cute together over the phone, and I knew from the small glimpses I'd had of them in the same room that they would only be worse for prolonged periods. I let them talk while I debated over the best phone to buy.

Before long, she was handing the phone over to me, an apologetic look following the gesture. "Ahh-lo," I offered my usual greeting. I'd never been one for a proper 'hello', or 'goodbye' either, for that matter.

"Baby, I miss you," followed after a sniffling sound. I could just picture Jordan with his lower lip protruding, eyes big as he frowned through his pout. "Don't roll your eyes at me." Was he psychic?

"Are you drunk?" It was obvious he wasn't, but sometimes these things just need to be asked. "Cos if you aren't then you don't miss me anywhere near enough."

I could clearly hear laughing in the background, a sure sign I'd been put on speaker. "Well that's only cos Tanger wouldn't let me raid the mini bar. He did give me a pretty nice back rub while I cried though."

"He's lying! There was no back rub," Kris yelled out. It sounded like there was a bit of playful shoving going on too.

"So," Jordan broke my laughter at their behaviour, "I hear you're getting a new phone, and being your fiancé, it's only fair that mine is the first number you use."

"Let me guess, you want phone sex?" Lucy was looking at me with wide, amused eyes while I could hear Jordan groaning as the other guys made catcalls and laughed.

"Please, for our sake, no," an unfamiliar voice spoke, quickly being silenced by a, "Don't cockblock me Sid! He's just jealous he didn't see you first."

After promising that I would let Jordan know my new number as soon as I had it and various proclamations of love from his end, he finally asked to talk to Lucy before I hung up on him. Their conversation was short, our end consisting only of Lucy calling him an idiot several times.

Leaving the store with my brand new fliptop phone, seeing as I'm a notorious pocket dialer, I asked something that had been on my mind for a while. "Is he always that... forward?"

Lucy shook her head as she led the way to our next destination. "Not really. I mean, he's a huge flirt, but he's never done anything like this. I think he really likes you. Max said he wasn't the only one asking about you at practice this morning either. Apparently quite a few of the guys were wondering what your deal was."

I raised my eyebrow as we entered a jewellers, but started looking through the display cases while Lucy waited for service. "I'm picking up a ring my sister was having repaired," she explained, looking through the cases herself. "Oh, isn't that pretty! I might just have to try it on."

She proceeded to try on several different rings, persuading me to do the same while we waited for the repaired ring to be found out the back. I'm not a big wearer of jewellery, only really occasionally wearing a necklace here or there. Yea, can you tell I'm not much of a girly girl?

After that it was a quick stop for food, then home to relax for the night.

Sunday morning was spent comatose, waking up at noon to find several new text messages from various unknown numbers amongst the three from Jordan. His were just to inform me I better be watching him play this afternoon at three, because he had spies and I'd be punished severely if I didn't.

The others seemed to be from the other guys on the team that I'd met and Jordan had felt the need to share my number with. That was cool with me, who was going to complain about making friends so quickly in a new city?

Unfortunately, the game didn't go as well as hoped for. Down by two early in the first period, it seemed as if nothing was going the Penguins way. Geno managed a goal just before the break, and momentum seemed to have swung their way when Rob Scuderi netted another just thirteen seconds after they retook the ice, but the Flyers rallied, buoyed by their home crowd. A power play snap shot earned Geno his second goal of the night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Flyers lead. A Gagne tally boosted the opposition to a 6-3 win, disappointed Penguins quickly leaving the ice to work out where it all went wrong.

The two fights in the first period had served to keep the energy high, and I'll grudgingly admit that when I saw Kris swinging in exception to a bad hit on TK I found it hard to keep my eyes off him. Seeing him that worked up was something else entirely removed from the shy, quiet boy I'd had in my living room the previous day.

Notes

I'm in a great mood cos we just had my town's Guy Fawkes fireworks display, so I figured i'd share the happiness.. hopefully!
