American Holiday

About two weeks had passed since Liz and Adam became an official couple and so far, they were the happiest people around. The only complaint Liz had was the number of away games lately had greatly trumped the number of home games, but she knew she couldn't complain. He texted her at least once every day and she always made sure to send him a pre-game good luck message. Currently she sat in the comfy chair in the living room, all wrapped up in a blanket with a hot mug of tea watching the boys play Carolina, and as of the beginning of the third period, they had it in the bag. She was all smiles since the 3 goals of the game had all come from the boys closest to her; Tyler, Ference and guess who, McQuaid. She heard footsteps coming down the hall and saw Julie in her pyjamas.
"Well aren't you all smiles tonight," she said as she looked at the TV, "ah, that's why." She chuckled as she saw the score at the top.
"Winning games means happy boyfriend," she said with a smile. She looked back to the TV and then over to her friend again, "Hey, you coming to the library with me tomorrow?"
Julie quirked her brow at Liz, grabbing a mug off the shelf. "Doesn't your man come home tomorrow?"
"Yes, but we also have a test in 3 days."
"Awe, look at you, making sure your studies still come first."
She looked past the kitchen wall and saw Liz sitting there with a slight guilty look on her face, "He's coming over tomorrow night isn't he."
Liz scrunched her nose slightly and nodded.
"And the truth comes out!" The girls shared a laugh as Julie poured her tea. "Well lucky for you I won't be around tomorrow, so you two have the whole place to yourselves. Just no sex on any surfaces we prepare and or eat food, sound good?"
"I make no promises, but where are you off to tomorrow?"
She grabbed her mug of tea off the counter and started jokingly sauntering off to her room, "That, my dear, is for me to know and you to find out."
"Slut!" Liz jokingly yelled after her
"Bitch!" Julie rebutted as she entered her room, "Night!"
"Night!" Liz called back as she settled in for the last 15 minutes of the game.

The next morning Liz woke up bright and early to make her way to the library. Checking her phone before she hopped in the shower she noticed she had two text messages waiting for her, both from Adam. The first one read 'hope you caught that game, I know how you love a good shut-out' and the second one was from around 2 in the morning 'Home. I know your sleeping, but I can't wait to see you tomorrow. And since you'll probably read this when you wake up. Good morning beautiful :)'.
She smiled at the messages and decided to send back a response before she hopped in the shower.
'I do love a good shut-out, must have been that awesome defence ;) I can't wait to see you either and good morning handsome :)'
After her shower, she threw on the shirt Adam had lent her their first night together and a pair of yoga pants, grabbing her bag and heading off to the library. When she got there, she settled in her usual spot and pulled out her books setting up camp for the rest of the day. Before she started she took a long drink of the coffee in front of her and checked her phone, smiling when she saw a message from Adam.
'Not that I don't love being woken up by that ego-boosting message, but good lord you're up early for a Saturday.'
She chuckled to herself and shook her head lightly.
'Library day. Has to happen if I want the night off!'

It was around 3:30pm and Liz sighed, dropping her head forward to relax her stiffening neck. She had been studying since 10 that morning and she was starting to hate every word on every page of every textbook. Rubbing her eyes, she flipped open her binder, turning to the weeks notes she was searching for when she heard a voice behind her.
"Hey, that's a nice shirt you've got there."
She smiled as she turned around, looking down at the shirt she was currently wearing.
"You should know that if you give a girl a piece of your clothing, you're probably never going to get it back." She said with a smile.
Adam chuckled and pulled out the chair beside her placing the tray he was carrying down on the table in front of her.
"That's okay, it looks better on you anyway." He leaned over and kissed the side of her head as she examined the contents of the tray he had just put down.
"This for me, hotshot?"
"Yeep. Decided that since you probably wouldn't take a break to get sustenance of your own, I would take I tint my own hands."
She smiled up at him, reaching to grab the hand that was sitting on the table.
"Thanks, you're pretty awesome."
"Eh, what can I say?"
She chuckled and let go of his hand reaching for the coffee in the tray.
"Well for starters, thank you would be polite."
Shaking his head and smirking slightly, he responded. "Thank you."
"And you, sir, are very welcome!" She said in an over dramatic tone with a cheesy smile on her face.
He chuckled as she took a sip of the warm liquid and smiled.
"Seriously though, you're amazing."
"Amazing enough to deserve a kiss?
"Smooth one McQuaid."
"I like to think so."
She chuckled and leaned forward pressing her lips against his. She welcomed the feeling after him being away, and a long day of studying in the library being secluded and surrounded by textbooks.
"How long have you been here?" He asked as she pulled away from his lips.
"What time is it?"
"Almost 4."
"Well then, I've been here 6 hours."
HIs eyes widened and he shook his head at her.
"You're ridiculous babe."
"These notes won't study themselves! Plus, it's getting closer to quitting time.
"And when is that."
"2 hours."
"How does this sound? I'll leave you to study for the next 2 hours and you can text me when you're on your way home and I'll bring Chinese and a movie to your place."
She closed her eyes, smile on her face, sighing.
"You know exactly what to say, don't you?"
He chuckled at her actions. "I take that as a yes?"
"Only if you bring beer with you." She said with a coy smile on her face.
"I think I can do that."
"Then that is a yes." She leaned forward kissing him again. "Now get out of here, you distraction!" She swatted at him and he laughed, hopping up from his chair to avoid her fingers.
"I'm going, I'm going!" He laughed, leaning down to kiss the top of her head. "See you soon."
She smiled up at him and watched him head towards the exit, focusing back on her books.

2 hours later she was more than happy to be home and not in the library as she deposited her books in her room and cleaned up the rest of the apartment a bit waiting for Adam to get there with the food. She heard her stomach growl at the thought of it and she chuckled. Moments later there was a knock on the door and she ran to it, opening it to reveal her boyfriend holding a bag of Chinese food, some beer and a dvd case all in his hands. She smiled at him grabbing the bag from his hands to lighten his load. As she did so, he leaned down stealing a kiss from her.
"Hey there."
"Oh heeeey." She said as she wiggled her body and turned towards the couch.
"Have fun studying?" he asked as he kicked his shoes off following in her direction. She plopped down on the couch, taking up the whole thing and sighed.
"Well, my brain is mush, so if that equals fun then I am having the most fun ever."
He chuckled and set the beer down on the table, putting the DVD in the player and heading back over to the couch. She started to move, but he stopped her. She rose an eyebrow in his direction and he grabbed the bag of food off the table, lifting up her feet and sitting on the couch under them before placing them in his lap. She smiled over at him before moving anyway. As she settled herself in beside him she smiled up at him.
"Sorry, you were too far away for my liking."
He leaned down and pecked her lips before opening the bag and handing her a box.
"Not 100% sure about what you liked or didn't like, so you ended up with a bit of everything."
She chuckled at this and kissed his cheek.
"I love everything Chinese. Thank you." She grabbed 2 beers off the table and handed one to him as they settled in to eat and watch their movie.
A couple hours later the food was eaten and the movie had just finished as they sat on the couch cuddled up together, a blanket wrapped around them. It was nearing the end of November and it was definitely starting to get cold outside. Adam looked down at Liz, who sat curled up to his side, her head in the crook of where his chest and arm met with his arm around her. He stared at her for a minute before speaking.
"What are your plans for thanksgiving?"
She looked up at him, moving a bit to see his face better. "Nothing really, I usually just stay in and watch movies. Considering I don't know too many American's around here."
"That doesn't sound like anyway to spend a holiday."
"Well look at you mister I'm Canadian but I'm going to pretend I'm American just to get the holiday." She said with a playful smirk.
"Hey, turkey is turkey!"
She shook her head at him, "why do you ask?"
"Well, since a good chunk of the guys on the team are Canadian we usually get together for dinner that night. I was hoping this year my girlfriend would join me." He said with a small smile.
She smiled a warm smile at him and cuddled into him more. "Of course I'll be there."
"Wonderful." He smiled and kissed the top of her head.

The next week Liz stood in the doorway of her closet yet again scouring for something to wear for the team Thanksgiving dinner. She sighed pulling out a maroon cardigan, grey tank top and a pair of jeans. Throwing that on she pulled her hair up into a bun and thew a light layer of makeup over her face. Walking out of her room she headed across the hall to Julie's room, knocking on the door and pushing it open.
"Thanksgiving acceptable?"
"Very acceptable. Although I still can't believe you're dumping me on movie day for a stinky boy."
Liz chuckled, "he's only stinky if he doesn't shower before he leaves the rink."
"I didn't mean literally, but whaaatever! Now go go go and eat lots of turkey for me!"
"Will do lovely, have a good day!"
She grabbed her bag from the couch and threw on her boots, grabbing her coat and heading towards the elevator. Driving to Adam and Dougie's place she hummed to herself trying to quell the nerves of the first time she would be around all the guys as Adam's girlfriend instead of just Ty's friend Liz. Pulling into the parking lot, she found an empty space and texted Adam letting him know she was here. Moments later she saw Adam and Dougie appear from the side door, both looking their best for the festivities ahead. Getting out of the car she grabbed her bag from beside her and walked into the arms of her boyfriend, wrapping her arms around him for a hug. As she pulled away she looked over in the direction of the other Bruin.
"Hey Dougie! Ready for a day of turkey fun?"
Dougie chuckled, "more like one of the only days of the year you're allowed to break diet."
"Hey, it's a good day all around!" She chuckled and grabbed Adam's hand heading for the car as Dougie got in the back seat, but he pulled her back turning her to face him and leaning down to kiss her.
"I hope you didn't think you were getting away without one of those."
"Well honey, not in front of the children." She chuckled nodding her head in the direction of the car that Dougie was now sitting in.
Adam laughed and led her over to the car, opening the door so she could hop in. As they drove to Thorty's house, the conversation in the car was kept light, with a little poking fun at the youngster in the back seat. The longer they were in the car, the more nervous Adam could see Liz getting. When they pulled into the lane way, Adam grabbed one of her hands to calm it from picking at the helm of her coat. As he shut off the car he looked over at her.
"Everyone already loves you, I don't know what you're nervous about."
"I know, and I already know everyone in there. But it's different being your girlfriend this time."
"Hopefully not bad different."
She looked over at him and squeezed his hand, "never bad different."
Sliding out of the car, she walked hand in hand with Adam up to the front door as Dougie trailed behind them. As they got to the door Liz let out a deep breath when Adam rang the doorbell. He gave her hand a re-assuring squeeze and a few seconds later the door opened with the face of Thorty's wife on the other side.
"Hey guys, glad you could come!" She paused for a second as she looked at the intertwined hands of Liz and Adam and looked back up at them with a bigger smile on her face as she stepped back letting them in. Shawn quickly appeared behind his wife and she leaned up to him speaking quietly.
"You never told me they got together."
"I didn't know he actually sealed the deal." He spoke back.
"Hey guys, Liz. Glad you could make it!" Thorty stepped out giving each of them a hug. After hugs were given, Adam quickly found his way back to Liz grabbing her hand again.
"Well well, what do we have here?"
Liz could feel the heat rise in her face but tried her best to keep it down and act normal.
"What, I can't hold my girlfriends hand Thorty?"
The smile on the older mans face grew as he clapped Adam on the back. "Atta boy Quaider."
"Well come on in, everyones in the living room!" Thorty's wife held her arm out in the direction the group was to follow. As they all headed in, Adam kept a tight grip on Liz's hand letting her know that he wasn't going anywhere. As the group in the living room noticed there was some new additions, it also came with new realizations as everyone slowly took in the pairs intertwined hands. Tyler was the first to speak up, walking over to Liz.
"Marchy's going to be pissed."
She chuckled as she dropped Adam's hand and gave him a hug.
"Who cares about what that pipsqueak thinks, besides I'll get my boyfriend to beat him up."
"That's so weird."
"What?"
"That you just called Quaider your boyfriend, that one's going to take some getting used to."
Before she could say anything else, he pulled her in for another hug. "I''m happy for you Lizzie."
She squeezed him back and smiled, "Thanks Ty."
As the rest of the group made their way through hugs and welcomes, both Adam and Liz got many more witty remarks and pats of acceptance that they were finally together. Finally as they all sat down together to eat their thanksgiving meal, Adam leaned over to Liz.
"So, as bad as you thought?"
"Nah. But then again Marchy isn't here." She said with a chuckle.
"Like you said, you'll just have to get your boyfriend to beat him up."
"I think that sounds like a great idea. But watch out, he's scrappy."
"I'm pretty sure I could take him." He chuckled as he leaned over to place a soft kiss on her lips. As he did so, a chorus of "aweeeee"s rang out from around the table and the pair shared a laugh.
"Alright alright, enough of that, let's eat!"

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
