Suspense

After the game, Liz followed the Ference troop down to the hallway of the locker room prepared to wait out the media storm. Liz was keeping the older girl occupied while the youngest slept in her mothers arms.
"I got to watch a game with you AND they won! This is a great night!" The little girl exclaimed bouncing around. Krista chuckled and looked at Liz.
"So maybe that last orange soda wasn't such a good idea." The two shared a laugh as Krista shrugged. "Ah well, she'll be Andrew's job to put to bed."
"That is almost diabolical and I love it!"
Before anything else could be said of it, Liz heard a voice behind her.
"Well, well, well. Who knew Liz was here?"
She turned seeing Fred approaching her along with a couple other guys that he and Tyler were friends with. She smiled and walked the rest of the distance between her and Fred as he opened his arms for a hug.
"Yet another game here without me in attendance, I'm hurt." He feigned an upset face as he covered his heart with his hands.
"Yeah yeah, clearly it's all part of my master plan against you Fred."
They chuckled as she nodded in the direction of the other guys as a gesture of saying hello. She felt a tugging at her leg and looked down to see the little Ference girl smiling up at her. As she picked her up, the guys got their first real look at the number on the back of the jersey Liz was currently donning.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. What do we have here?" Mark said from behind Fred as he grabbed the sleeve of her jersey holding up the number.
"That's not Segs number." Jeff piped up from beside Mark.
The small girl in Liz's arms looked at the boys like they were idiots and chimed in, "that's Quaider's number. Duh."
Mark chuckled and leaned in looking at the girl, "and would you be able to tell us why she's wearing Quaider's number?"
The look on the girls face only intensified and she slowed her speech as she spoke. "Because she's his girlfriend. That's what you do you know, that's why mommy wears daddy's number."
Liz pursed her lips together trying not to burst out laughing at the tone of what the girl had just said. She was currently extremely grateful for the tiny back up and would have to remember to spoil her the next time she babysat. The guys shared a look as Fred looked away trying not to laugh as well.
"That's interesting." Mark spoke, knowing he had to watch his tongue with the little girl in his presence.
"I'm going back over with mommy." The girl in Liz's arms spoke as she wiggled her way down.
When she had ran back to her mom, Liz turned back to the boys knowing she had no defence now.
"So, you're dating a Bruin, huh Lizzie?" Jeff spoke up.
She rolled her eyes at his use of her unwanted nickname. "That's what she said, isn't it?"
"Just wanted to hear it from the horses mouth." He walked closer to her as Mark and Fred started up their own conversation.
"You sure about your choice? You know that you could have had me, right?" He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and she cringed. "All you had to do was ask."
She backed up slightly, not enjoying the close proximity the two were currently sharing. "That's quite noble of you." She spat back, wanting to make it extremely clear she had no interest in him. Segs had a lot of friends, but Jeff was definitely one of the biggest assholes of the group.
"We could still have some fun, no one has to know about it. I keep good secrets."
"I don't keep secrets from my boyfriend, and I'm having more than enough 'fun' thanks."
She jumped slightly as she felt an arm wrap around her shoulders.
"Having fun doing what?"
She sighed in relief when she heard the voice, looking up at Adam with a thankful look on her face.
"Lizzie here is just saying she's having fun doing you." Jeff spoke with a biting tone to his voice.
She felt Adam's arm wrap around her tighter and looked up slightly to see his firmly set jaw.
"Jeff here was just letting me know that he's still more than willing to have some fun with me even though I've got a boyfriend, isn't that right Jeff?"
She knew that she didn't need to instigate any to get Adam pissed off at the situation, but she had to admit that the possessiveness and firm look on his face was very sexy on him.
"Thanks for making sure she's good to go. But unlike preppy boys like you, I know how to keep my girlfriend happy. In fact, I think I'm going to go home and do that right now. Nice to meet you Jeff."
Liz let out a breath of relief as Adam led them away from the group, before turning completely she caught eyes with Fred who had an apologetic look on his face. It wasn't his fault, he didn't know how big of a pervert Jeff really was.
On their way out, both parties were quiet and Adam stopped a few times to sign jerseys for kids who had waited around outside for the players to leave. Walking through the parking lot to his car he kept his arm possessively wrapped around her shoulders, and she smiled to herself wrapping her arm around his waist.
"You're pretty sexy when you're all angry and possessive."
She saw the tension in his shoulders relax as he sighed and looked down at her.
"Sexy, huh?"
She smirked and pulled herself closer to him.
"Oh yeah, that tensed jaw, angry face, all very sexy."
He chuckled a bit, "That guy was an asshole."
"Don't worry, I know. I've been fending him off practically since I moved here."
"I'll kick his ass if he touches you." He said with anger as opened Liz's car door for her.
She smirked and got up on her toes to kiss him lightly. "That's even sexier."
"I hope it's still sexy when you're bailing me out of jail." He chuckled.
"I'd make Tyler bail you out, it's his asshole friend." She laughed, kissing him again.
He sighed and looked down at her, "You heading home?"
"Yeah, you going to join me?"
"Oh, I'm right behind you babe."
She smirked, "I'll leave the door open."

The next morning, Liz was awoken by the smell of bacon and coffee coming from the kitchen. Rolling over, she noticed that Adam wasn't beside her anymore and raised an eyebrow climbing out of bed and walking to her dresser to grab sweat pants and a t-shirt. Walking out into the kitchen she heard Adam talking, followed by another voice. She walked into the kitchen taking in the scene of Adam helping her roommate make breakfast and smiled to herself at the scene. She smiled at Julie who had turned to notice her roommate walking in the kitchen and then walked up behind Adam who was in charge of the bacon on the stove, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Morning bacon master."
She felt the vibrations of a chuckle go through his chest and she closed her eyes slightly enjoying the feeling.
"He's been quite handy this morning. Definitely making my life a lot easier." Julie spoke from the other counter where she was plating up pancakes.
She released her arms from around his waist and he turned around to look at his girlfriend.
"To be honest, I smelt the coffee and came running."
Liz chuckled as he leaned down and kissed her on the top of the head and wrap his arms around her. Julie grabbed the pan from the stove and divided up the bacon on to the three plates as she watched the two hug sleepily.
"Well there's breakfast. You guys enjoy, I'm eating breakfast in bed." Julie passed Liz and sent her a wink on her way by.
"Thanks Jules!" Liz hollered after her with a chuckle.
Adam and Liz took their plates and mugs over to the couch and made themselves comfortable. After a few bites, Adam looked over at Liz.
"What are your plans for the weekend."
"Uuuuuhh… Nothing, I think. Why do you ask?"
"Well, I have the weekend off, and we haven't been on a date in quite a few weeks."
"You know that's fine with me, I love moments like this just as much as dates. And they're much cheaper."
He leaned over and kissed the side of her head as she took a drink of her coffee.
"I know, but I'm spoiling you this weekend."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah, so pack a bag cause we leave tomorrow night."
Her eyebrows shot up. "Leave? Don't you have practices and games and stuff like that?"
"We have a game tomorrow night and then we're off for the weekend."
"Huh. Well that still doesn't answer the leave part, where are we leaving to?"
He smiled contently and put another forkful of pancakes in his mouth. She sighed and sunk back into the couch. "You're not telling me."
"You got it, babe."
"What's with you and surprises?"
"I like to surprise my girlfriend, what's so bad with that?"
"Horrible when you're girlfriend is one of the most impatient people in Boston when it comes to surprises." She huffed.
He chuckled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders as she bit off a chunk of her bacon. "I promise you're going to love it."
Her face softened as she looked up at him. "I know. I'll be with you, of course I'll love it."
He leaned down, capturing her lips with his. Pulling back he smiled down at her. "You're going to have to do without me today though, we've got workout, practice and team supper."
"That's okay, if I get you all weekend, I'll let your boys have you for today." She kissed him again and grabbed his plate from his lap getting up from the couch and heading to the kitchen to deposit the plates. He followed her in depositing the empty coffee mugs beside the plates and wrapped his arms around her pulling her into him.
"Is there anything specific I need to bring with me for this super secret weekend?"
"Bring whatever you want. It's just us, all weekend."
She smiled, "I like the sounds of that. You never know, I might just pack something extra special for you." She said with a wink.
"And I like the sounds of that." He leaned down and kissed her. "But for now, I need to go. See you tomorrow night?"
"Of course you will, practice hard hotshot."

The next night Liz waited outside the dressing room, bag in hand waiting for Adam to come out. She was excited for her weekend away, especially because he had stuck to his guns and still hadn't told her where they were going. She pulled out her phone, sending Julie a quick text about her mixed emotions of nervous and excited. As she was typing she heard the door open across from her and looked up, smiling at the guys who were leaving sending them a quick wave. She finished her text and sent it off just as the door opened again revealing her boyfriend walking towards her freshly showered and re-dressed in his pre-game suit. She smiled up at him, and he returned the smile nodding at her bag.
"Packed and ready to go?"
"Oh you have no idea." She chuckled as he leaned down to kiss her. "The suspense is killing me."
He grabbed her hand as she threw her bag over her shoulder and they headed out of the arena.
"Are you saying you're just excited to see where we're going, or am I included in that excitement there too?"
She looked up at him. "I get to spend a whole, uninterrupted weekend with you. Just you. You have no idea how excited that makes me."
"Good, 'cause sadly there's another road game string after we get home."
"Well we're just going to have to make the best of this weekend then, huh?" She smiled up at him.
He returned her smile with a smirk as he opened the passenger seat door for her , "I like the way you think."
After about 45 minutes of driving, Adam pulled into the driveway of a very large, victorian looking house. As Liz took in the house in front of her she turned to Adam and squinted her eyes.
"And what do we have here?"
He pulled into an empty parking space and shut off the car, undoing his seat belt and looking over at her.
"I figured if we stayed in the city there were more opportunities for disruption and I wanted you all to myself this weekend. So, a bed and breakfast just outside the city sounded like the best plan."
She stared at him for a moment with a small smile playing on her lips. She couldn't believe that he had planned all this just so he could spend the weekend with her. Of course he had always done little things that made her feel like the most special girl in the world, but this made her fall for him even more. She undid her seatbelt and leaned over to him, cupping his face with her hands.
"You're amazing." She leaned in kissing him. "How did I get so lucky?"
"Funny, I ask myself that every day."
She leaned in, kissing him again. Even though they may have only been together for a short period of time, there was no doubt in Liz's mind that she had never felt like this about any other guy she had ever been with. After a few moments he pulled away.
"So do you want to just stay in the car all weekend, or do you actually want to go in?"

Notes

HI ALL! I definitely wasn't planning on updating this soon, but because you are all so awesome and I had such AMAZING comments on the last chapter, you guys get this treat!
Kind of another filler chapter, but the next one will have some good stuff! So I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it, but who cares about me, it only matters if you guys like it!
(Side note, who knows if there are actually friends out there named Mark and Jeff. Just random names that got picked, not trying to offend anyone!)
SO THAT BEING SAID, I hope you enjoy this one!
Keep it going with the comments and love!
LOVE YOU ALL.
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU'RE INCREDIBLE!

Comments

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
