Parental Guidance

Liz walked into Adam and Dougie's apartment with a very displeased look on her face. Dougie turned from his spot on the couch when he heard the door close and took in the look on her face.
"Heeeeey Liz…"
"Hi Doug." She tossed her shoes onto the mat beside the door and sulked over to the couch dropping her bag behind it.
"Adam's not home yet."
"I know. I'm supposed to wait for him."
"Ah." He sat there for a moment wondering if he should bring up the reasoning for the look on her face or if he should just let it go. After a few minutes of silence he went for it. "So what's with the look?"
"We decided it's time to tell our parents."
"Ooooh. You don't think they'll be happy?"
"I donno. It's just it all happened so fast. I mean my parents loved Adam and I got along really well with his, but it's still the fact that my parents are going to think he's the asshole who knocked me up and his will think I'm the pregnant whore."
Dougie chuckled and widened his eyes, "I haven't met your parents, but I've met his and I'm willing to bet money they're not going to think that."
"That's what he said too."
"And you're still not buying it are you?"
"You're a smart boy Doug."
"Well the guys in the room love you, and from the amount he gushed about it I'm willing to bet that his parents love you. Don't worry about it. They'll probably be more pissed at him than you." He chuckled with an amused look on his face.
She chuckled and flopped her head back on the couch "I don't want anyone to be pissed at anyone!"
"You haven't told them yet, you have no idea how they're going to react. Don't stress. It's not good for the baby."
She opened her eyes and looked over at Dougie, who was sitting with a firm look on his face. "Since when did you become so grown up?"
He shrugged, "Kinda just happened."
She patted his arm and smiled at him. "Thanks Doug."
Just then they heard the door open and Dougie got up from the couch and headed to the fridge. Liz turned and looked over at Adam who looked equally as grim as she did when she walked in a few minutes before. He walked over to the couch and kissed the top of her head.
"Hi."
"Hey."
Dougie came back into the room tossing water bottles at both Adam and Liz and starting off to his room.
"Have fun guys."
Adam glared at the back of his head and Liz chuckled squeezing his arm gently. "Down boy."
"It's not going to be fun." He mumbled walking around to the other side of the couch and plopping down beside her. "How was your day?"
She shrugged, "been thinking about this all day."
"Same."
"But! Look at this." She lifted up her shirt and revealed the little bump that was starting to form. "I woke up and it was there."
It had been about a week since their appointment with the doctor and this was the first outwardly visible sign that their little girl was in there.
Adam smiled and reached his hand over to rest it on her stomach. "There's definitely worse things to wake up to."
"Tell me about it, your morning face IS kinda scary…" She tried her best to keep a straight face, but the smirk was pulling at the side of her lips.
He slid his hand over quickly and brushed his fingers over the side of her stomach and she jumped. "Hey!"
"That's what I thought." He smiled.
She pulled her shirt back down and playfully glared at him. After another chuckle from him, she sighed and slumped down on the couch.
"So who's parents are first?"
"Neither one is going to be a fun call to make…"
"Dougie says that your parents love me, so they'll hate you more than me. I think we should go with that one."
He looked over at Liz to see a simple smile across her lips. He raised his eyebrow.
"They'll hate me more?"
"Well I'm just this awesome girl you knocked up. You're their irresponsible son who couldn't wrap his wiener." She chuckled as his eyebrows furrowed.
He sighed and sat back into the couch and she scooted over to him wrapping her arms around his neck and resting her chin on his shoulder kissing his cheek lightly.
"I'm just kidding." She spoke softly in his ear, "I can pretend to be irresponsible too." They both chuckled and she wrapped her arms around his neck a little tighter kissing the underside of his jaw.
He pulled his phone out and dialled his parents number, sighing as he hit speaker on the screen.
"You ready for this?"
"Not one bit." She tried to add a chuckle to the end but failed miserably. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to her forearm that were resting around his shoulders, pulling out the phone to start their evening of 'fun.'

A couple hours later and they were still in the same spot on the couch. Liz sighed and dropped her forehead down, resting it on Adam's shoulder.
"We should have called my parents first."
"And to think, you were worried about my parents."
Liz sighed and Adam turned so he could wrap his arms around her, and brought her into his chest.
"I know it doesn't help right now, but it could have been worse."
"Oh yeah, they could have kicked me out of the family."
He kissed the top of her head. "My parents would have taken you in," he replied with a chuckle.
Adam's parents, however somewhat worried about how the young couple would handle the stress, were happy to hear the news that in just 5 months they would have a granddaughter to welcome into the world.
Liz's parents though, were more angry than accepting. After listening to a ten minute lecture about how irresponsible it was to let this happen after such a short time and with both of them in situations that weren't favourable to welcome a baby into, they tried to tell Liz she had to come home. The conversation soon ended after, for fear that Adam would say things that would get him even less points than he currently held.
"They're not angry at you, they're angry at me." She said quietly.
"Takes two to get into this situation, babe."
"Not in their eyes right now. But they're still pissed I chose to move this far away to go to school. And now I have even more of a reason to stay here. Not my fault they made me an only child."
"You'd think they would try not to push you away then."
"No one said they were smart."
Adam pulled back to look down at her and bumped her forehead lightly with his nose to get her to look up at him. When she did he kissed the middle of her forehead and then looked back down at her.
"You've got me. You've got Julie, Katie, Brit and all the guys on the team would have your back in a second. If they don't want you, you've still got family. They're a bunch of basket cases, but they work."
She chuckled softly and leaned forward pressing a soft kiss to his lips and then resting her head on his chest.
"I think we've had enough fun for today, what are your feelings about bed time?"
"I feel like it's my favourite part of the day. Especially on days like this."
She felt the vibrations of his soft chuckle through his chest and then felt the warmth of his arms unwrap from around her as he started to stand. Looking down on the couch he noticed that she hadn't moved from her spot and had a simple smile on her face.
"What?"
"Piggy back?"
He rolled his eyes at her and smirked, turning around and crouching so she could hop on his back. The smile on her face widened as she scurried up from the couch and wrapped her arms around his neck before launching her legs off the couch and around his waist. He secured his hands underneath her thighs and started on his way down the hall. She leaned forward pressing a light kiss to the base of his neck, right before the start of his shirt collar and whispered in his ear.
"Love you."
He squeezed her thighs in response and quietly responded.
"Love you too Liz."

The next morning they were both awoken by the sounds of the alarm coming from the bedside table beside Adams head. Liz groaned as he reached over and smacked the button on the top, silencing the annoying noise. Rolling over, he wrapped himself around Liz and pressed a kiss to the back of her head.
"Morning."
"Does it have to be?"
He chuckled. "It happens every day."
"I still don't understand why it has to."
He kissed the back of her head again as he moved his hands so they were sitting on the bump on her stomach. He brushed his fingers lightly around it and Liz flinched away from him chuckling.
"That tickles."
"How else am I supposed to say good morning to my little girl?"
She smiled at his adorable question and rolled over in his arms so she was laying on her back. "Just say it?"
He looked at her with and nodded. "No one said I was logical in the morning."
He scooted down and pressed his nose to her stomach. "Good morning in there." He leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to her stomach.
Liz chuckled in response to the cute scene unfolding in front of her but was cut off with a sharp jolt in the front of her stomach. She looked down at her stomach just as Adam looked up at her.
"Was that?"
"I donno -" She was cut off with another one and a smile started spreading across both their faces.
Adam sat up slightly and brought his hands up to her stomach.
"That had to be a kick."
"Apparently all she wanted was a good morning from her daddy."
After a few seconds of staring at her stomach he looked up at Liz with the biggest smile on his face. Sliding up the bed he pressed his lips to hers.
"I'm really glad I was here for that."
"Me too." She smiled and ran her hand through his curls. He leaned forward and kissed her again, then looked over to the alarm clock and groaned.
"Team breakfast is in an hour."
She glanced over and saw the red numbers, "I have to meet with the girls in an hour."
He sat up and slid off the bed heading towards the door, "share a shower?"
She shook her head. "Too lazy. I'm going to lay here."
"Okay, but you owe me one now."
She chuckled and saluted as he headed out through the doorway.

About twenty minutes later Liz laid on the bed, hands over her slightly rounded stomach. Adam walked into his room and looked down at her, running the towel through his hair.
"Watcha doing?"
She puffed her stomach out, making it nice and round.
"I don't know how I feel about this."
"About what?"
"This round belly thing. I mean look at this!" She pointed down at her rounded stomach.
He chuckled and walked over to the bed leaning down and kissing her quickly.
"You look beautiful.
"I look fat."
"Not fat, pregnant." He chuckled, "it's a good look on you!"
"You better still be singing that tune in a couple months when I look like a whale and can't find my feet."
"I promise I will. Plus, that just means you're making a good home for her in there."
She furrowed her brows at him. "It all seems really unfair that I have to do all the work. I mean whose idea was that anyway? That men just get all the fun and women have to deal with the not so fun stuff."
"If I knew, I would tell you babe." He rustled through one of his drawers pulling out a baby blue t-shirt and pulling it over his head. She sat up on the bed and hung her legs over the side looking over at him.
"I like that shirt on you."
"Oh do you?" He said with a slight smirk as he walked closer to the bed.
She reached out and played with the edge of it as he got close enough to her. "Yep."
He pulled on the sleeve of his oversized Bruins workout shirt she was currently wearing, "Well I like this shirt on you."
She quirked an eyebrow at him, "that's a lie."
"It looks a hell of a lot better on you than me."
"That may be true, but you like this shirt on the floor even better." She said with a playful smirk building on her lips.
"You caught me there, and that's exactly where it would be right now if I didn't have to leave in…" he looked over at the clock, "five minutes." He groaned and Liz stood up wrapping her arms around his waist. She kissed his adam's apple and looked up at him.
"Go. I'll be around later, breakfast can't wait."
He leaned down and pressed a kiss to her lips. "I'm holding you to that."
"I'm good on my word, don't you worry hotshot."
He kissed her again and grabbed his wallet from the dresser before turning to her again.
"Have fun with the girls."
"Have fun with the boys."
He chuckled, "love you."
"Love you too hotshot."

Notes

Holy crap I actually posted an update!

I'm SO SO SORRY for taking this long! I had some writers block, and no one commented on the last one which made me kinda sad. And I finished school and I'm studying for the big exam.
Blegh, so much to do :(

I hope you enjoyed this one though! I might start speeding things up soon in order to get to the little cutie arriving sooner!

Let me know what you lovelies think! COMMENT, VOTE, ALL THAT JAZZ! :)

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
