Becoming Stronger together

*The Next Day*

Christian had slept all through the night and into a littler later than noon the next day. Gina stopped by with Tristan and Patrick left to go practice. The doctors kept coming in and checking on his levels while he slept and made sure he was at where he should be. The team ended their practice and headed over to the hospital to see Christian, and Patrick had made a call the Kevin for him to come visit too.

*Christians hospital room*

Gina was in his room with Tristan asleep on her lap and the guys all walked in. Patrick took T from her and let him sleep.

"Hey babe" Patrick said kissing her, "how you doing?"
"Good. How was practice?" Gina said
"It was really good. How's he doing?" Patrick asked
"He's been asleep all day. The doctors keep coming in to check on him but he's been asleep since last night." Gina said
Kevin walked into the room with a bunch of junk food for Christian, "How's my favorite shit head cousin doing?"
"Hey Kev! He's sleeping and I don't know if he'll be able to have those." Gina said getting up hugging him
"Aw he's not such a shit when he's sleeping" Kev laughed, "Why can't he have these?"
"He's diabetic" Patrick said
"Holy shit are you serious?" Kev said
"Shit" Tristan repeated

Everyone looked at him and laughed but Patrick and Gina.

"No. Don't say that." Patrick scolded
"Sorry PK" Kev said "since when is he diabetic? I thought you were born with that?"
"He was, it just didn't show until now." Kane said, "is it ok for him to be sleeping this much? How do they know if he's ok?" He asked worried
"Want me to get his doctor to have him talk to you?" Gina asked
Jon cut in, "Let him sleep Kaner. Poor kids probably exhausted."
"He fell asleep around 7 last night and it's now 2, almost 3 in the afternoon. He should be up." Kane said worried

Gina went to get Christians doctor and the team decided to go get some food. Patrick stayed in the room with Kev, T and Gina. The doctor came in and said he was fine sleeping all day and that when people typically get diabetes that the medicine they're given just drain them on energy. He also explained how he'd have days where his levels are either going to be too high or too low and he's going to feel like absolute shit those days but he can't do anything aside from drink a lot of Gatorade and just sleep it off. Once they finished talking about that they talked about the transplant. You could tell Gina was uneasy about the idea, but if it helped him it'd be worth it.

"He's getting a heart transplant? Patrick is that at all safe? I mean I get he's in pain and whatnot but wouldn't you rather him be alive." Kev said

Gina looked at Patrick, took T and left the room. Christian woke up from the sound of Gina slamming the door.

"Hey Pat can you get my doctor?" Christian asked
"Yeah. Kev stay with him please?" Kane said before leaving
"Hey little man. How you feeling?" Kev asked
Christian looked at him but didn't answer.
"Ok. Are you alright? Do you need something?" Kev asked
The doctor walked in, "Your awake. How you feeling?"
"What do y'all do for the transplant?" Christian asked

Patrick looked at him confused.

"We contacted a surgeon for you and we have the replacement heart ready for you. When you want it done let me know and I'll have the surgeon come talk to you." The doctor said
"What's the soonest we can do?" He asked
"Tomorrow" said the doctor
Christian looked at Patrick and said, "Then can I talk to the surgeon today and get it done tomorrow?"
The doctor looked at Patrick for approval and Patrick just nodded his head, "I'll have him head over here as soon as he's done with surgery."

The doctor walked out and the team walked in, "Littleman! You're up! How yo-" Shaw started to say
Christian cut him off, "If everyone could stop askin me how I'm feelin or doin that'd be great."
"Sorry." Shaw said
"You're fine. It's just annoyin after awhile." Christian said, "Don't y'all have a game tonight or tomorrow or somethin?"
"Today and tomorrow. We should probably head out huh?" Jon said
Patrick asked Jon, "Could you tell Q I can't make it to tonight's or tomorrow's game?"
"What! Why not?" The guys all whined
"He's doing the surgery tomorrow and I'm not leaving him here by himself." Patrick said.

All the guys shut up and looked at Christian as he was texting people on his phone. They were shocked that he was getting the transplant done. They were happy for him though. They all said bye and promised to be back before he went under.
