If We've Got No Place To Go..

Close To You

I'm so nervous, I think I might shit myself. The text reads: HEY JORDAN. I'VE MISSED YOU. WE NEED TO TALK. She hasn't replied yet, and I'm worried she won't. After sending it, to prevent myself from doing something stupid, I go over to Jamie's place.

I let myself in and head out back, where Jamie told me he's grilling. "Hey man!" Jamie says and flips a burger. "Where's Jordie?" I ask, sitting down in a huge lawn chair. "The fiance and him are going out to eat. I invited Dillion and Val over, too." Jamie says. We sit in silence, avoiding the elephant in the room. "So, have you talked to Jordan yet?" Jamie asks. "I've texted her. She hasn't answered yet." I look at my hands, new callouses have formed from the heavy workouts I've been doing. All of them trying to prevent myself from going and finding Jordan and kissing her until she wants me as much as I want her. "She will." Jamie says simply.

"You guys seem to be close." I state. The anger that flashed in his eyes at that lunch still shook me.

"She's been with the Stars for one year less than me. Jordan never treated me like 'that kid' and I've always respected the way she treats us." Jamie says and takes the last of the burgers off the grill. As the last burger finds it's way on to the platter, Brenden and Val come walking out. "Hey boys, you hungry?" Jamie greets them. "Of course!" Brenden says. "Val was whining the whole way here about how hungry he is." "Well, Val's a growing boy. He needs his nutrition." I chirp. "I don't know how nutritious burgers are, but they smell great." Brenden says.

"Hey, Segs, will you grab some beers?" Jamie asks. "No problem." I say and head inside.

As I rummage through Bennie's fridge, I hear that voice float throughout the house. "Hey Jamie? I need to talk to you!" Every muscle in my body goes stiff. I set the Buds I found on the counter and stand there like a deer in the headlights. She comes into the kitchen and freezes the second she sees me. It's an unusually nice day in Dallas. The weather has been in the 70s and without game until the weekend, it's been great. Jordan's long legs are covered by shorts and a loose top flows to barely cover her mid section. Her hair flows past her shoulders in waves, begging to be touched.

"Hi." She says, almost whispers.
"J-Jamie is...is out back." I sputter.

She smiles warily at me and heads out to the back patio. I try to gather composure, grab the beers, and head out. Jamie immeadiately gives me an apologetic look. "There you are. Geez, I've been dyin' back here!" Brenden snaps, but obviously trying to lighten the mood, and grabs a beer from my hand. I hand one to Val and Jamie. "Do you want one?" I ask Jordan and hold out the remaining beer. "No, you go ahead. I can get myself one later." Jordan says.

Shit shit shit! Why is he here? Jamie was supposed to be alone so I could discuss Tyler. He texted me and I freaked. I still have feelings for him, regardless if I want them or not. I wanted to say, "We don't have to talk. I'll forgive you and I want you to come back over to my place and for us to make out." We all sit down to eat and I position myself in between Jamie and Val. We all make light chatter, talking about hockey and the sudden amount of attention Jamie has been getting on social media. I make fun of him saying, "You're becoming the bunnies favorite." It earned laughter from all the guys except for Jamie, who turned so red.

Brenden and Val just left and it's me, Jamie, and Tyler left beached on a couch in the living room watching HGTV despite their protests. "No, there is a new episode of Property Brothers on and I am not missing it!" I say. They both roll their eyes, but they're starting to get into it. "No, you idiot! He'll paint it and it'll look so much better!" Jamie hollers. "It's just lamenent, you can peel it up!" Tyler grumbles. i start laughing. They both look at me. "You two old women! What am I going to do with you?" "Make us brownies?" Jamie says with the goofiest smile plastered on his face.

I smile, "Maybe, if you're good. But now, I've gotta go home. I'm exhausted." Jamie starts to get up, but Tyler says, "I'll walk her out." Jamie looks to me for the OK and I reassure him with a smile. We walk to the entry way of Jamie's house. "So, about last week.." Tyler looks like he's going to be sick. "I don't want to know. I care, but I don't want to know. We're so close, and I don't want to mess that up. Just stop screwing around, Seguin." I blurt and before I can stop myself, I press my lips to his. "Goodnight." I whisper, one hand up in his short hair, and my lips pressed to his ear. "Sweet dreams." Tyler smiles softly against my neck.

I break away and open up Jamie's door. "Bye Bennie!" I holler. "Bye Jords! See ya!" I grin at Tyler and walk out. He shuts the door behind me and I want to burst into girlish giggles. I make it to my car before I shriek and do a nervous-happy dance. "Tonight's gonna be a long one."
