Allison's POV:
“Okay. Talk. What’s going on, James?” I asked, semi-annoyed that he couldn’t wait till morning to talk to me.
“Not on the phone…in person.” he said
I sighed “James, it’s 2am…can this wait until morning?”
“No.” he replied
“Alright…” I was worried now…why was this so important. “Come over.”
We hung up and I threw on a hoodie and went to the couch to wait for him to get there. After a few minutes he arrived. I went in for a kiss, but he stopped me. “We should talk before we kiss.”
“Okay, what’s wrong?” I asked
“Well…remember how I had sex with Jennifer before we started dating?” he started.
I nodded. James had slept with his ex-girlfriend Jennifer a week or two before he and I got together. “Yeah…”
“She showed up at my door today and…”
“Did you fuck her?” I interrupted. I assumed that this was the reason he woke me up this early in the morning.
“No…god no. Not since that night. Please, listen to me, Allison!” he pleaded. I shut my mouth and listened. “Jennifer is pregnant, Allison. She is pregnant with my baby.”
I just stared at him in disbelief, thinking that I heard him wrong, “What…”
“Jennifer is pregnant and the baby is mine.” he repeated.
I heard him right…James, my boyfriend, was going to be a father to someone else’s child.
James’ POV:
She didn’t come out and say it, but I knew Allison was upset. I mean I don’t blame her. She just found out that her boyfriend is going to be having a baby with his ex-girlfriend. I’d be angry too, if I was in her shoes.
I told Allison that I planned on helping Jennifer with our baby. I know that I can be an asshole, but I try to take care of my responsibilities and I planned on taking care of my child, even though it’s with Jen.
It wasn’t long, however, before the guys knew something was up. I wasn’t talking much that day for our pick-up game and Engo was the first to approach. “What’s going on, Nealer? You missed three scoring chances and you almost leveled Kuni…” Deryk said, putting his shirt on.
I shoved the last of my gear in my bag and sighed “Things are complicated…”
“With Allison?” Engo asked
I shook my head ‘no’. “No…not really…I mean right now things are good, but it’s going to get complicated…”
“Well that happens in relationships.” Engo said
“Deryk, Jen is pregnant…and her baby is mine.” I confessed
“Oh…wow.” Engo replied
“Yeah…” I sighed
Brandon Sutter came up and slipped his gear off “What’s up?”
“My ex-girlfriend is pregnant and it’s mine.” I repeated.
“Oh…I’m sorry?” Brandon replied confused
“Why are you sorry?” Sidney asked coming over to us. He was already in his ‘street clothes’ and had his bag over his shoulder.
“Jen is pregnant, Sid. The baby is mine.”
Sid dropped his bag “What?”
“He said…” Engo started
“I fucking heard him, dickhead.” Sid snapped. Brandon snickered. “How the fuck did this happen?”
“Well, Sid…when a guy and a girl have drunk unprotected sex…” I started
Sidney shook his head “I know that…I meant how…with her?”
“That night she came over and we fucked! I didn’t use protection.”
“Shit happens.” Engo said
Sidney sighed “Well, what are you going to do?”
“Take care of my baby.” I replied
“Good for you.” Engo said patting me on the back
“Thanks…” I replied
“Well, bro, if you need anything, we are here for you.” Sid said.
I nodded and then headed home. I had a lot to think about and a lot to do…
Allison’s POV:
I sighed and laid back on my pillow. I couldn’t believe James was going to be a dad…by another girl. I knew James would be a good father to his child, but I honestly didn’t want to deal with his ex.
I hadn’t met Jen, but I had heard things…and she was my boyfriend’s ex. I really wanted to talk to Mel, but she was out with her cousin again. I didn’t feel like shopping and I think Mel knew that. She had to have heard James come in…so maybe she already knew.
I grabbed my ice cream and sat on the couch and started to eat. Ice cream was the best comfort food…other than Mac and Cheese with corn, my other favorite. I smiled and took another bite.
Just then, the door opened and Mel came in, her arms full of shopping bags. “Hey.” she said smiling.
“Have a good time?” I asked, my mouth full.
Mel nodded “Of course. So…why did James come here last night.”
I sat my ice cream down, “You aren’t going to believe this…”
Melanie sat down and listened, “What’s going on?”
“His ex-girlfriend, Jen…she is pregnant and the baby is James’.”
Melanie’s mouth dropped “What?!”
“He had sex with her a few weeks before James and I started dating…” I explained.
“Oh that’s good…well it’s not good, but I thought he cheated on you…so it’s good that he didn’t.” Mel said
I nodded “Yeah…he says he is going to help her raise the baby…which is good, but…”
“But it’s going to be hard to help him raise someone’s kid?” she finished
“Yeah…” I replied
Melanie hugged me “Things will work out, honey…they always do.”
“I hope so, Mel…I hope so…”
