Chapter Sixty Six

“Sid, what’s this party for again?” I asked as I zipped up my dress and looked at Sidney through the mirror.

“Uh, it’s just a- uh, it’s a get together,” he said and I looked at him strangely but nodded my head none the less.

“And it’s at the country club?” I asked and he nodded his head, “Ok, can you go see if Josh is ready?”

“Sure,” he said and then fixed his tie and walked out of the room.

“What’s gotten into him?” I asked myself as I fixed my hair and then slipped my heels on.

When I finished getting dressed, I walked downstairs to see that my mom and dad were dressed and I saw that Sidney had Josh on the kitchen counter and was fixing his tie. I smiled and then walked over towards him and kissed his cheek and then ruffled Josh’s hair.

“Mom! Watch the do!”

I laughed and then kissed my son’s cheek and rubbed his back, “You look so cute!”

“I look good!” he said and I laughed and nodded my head.

When everyone was ready we climbed into Sidney’s car and he drove us to the country club. We were a little late, but Sidney said that it was all right. The valet took the Rover after we all got out of the car and Sidney laced his fingers with mine as we walked into the country club.

“Wow,” I said as I looked around to see that there were a lot of people here.

“Julie!” I heard and looked to my side to see that my sister Andrea was here.

“Oh my god! Andy! What are you doing here?” I asked as I hugged her and smiled brightly at her.

“What are you talking about? I came for your-“

“She wanted to see you because she missed you!” mom said as she stepped in-between us, “Andy I thought you were going to meet us at the house.”

“Oh, OH! Um sorry, I guess everything kind of got mixed up,” she said and I looked at the two of them strangely.

‘…What the hell is going on?...’ I thought but then shook it off when I heard my name and turned to see that Vero was running towards me, “Vero!”

“Hello honey! Oh I’m sorry happy to see you!” she squealed really excitedly and I laughed.

“I can see that! What kind of party is this? Are you already drunk?”

“What? No, oh honey, I’m just so happy you’re here!”

“Are you high?” I asked and Marc walked over and kissed my cheek, “What did you do to her?”

“She’s just really happy that we’re ALL here,” Marc said and placed his hand on Vero’s back.

“Oh right! Yes, all of us!” she said and then I saw her bite back a large smile.

“Ok,” I said slowly seeing that something was definitely up here.

-Sidney-

“Dude, can you try to calm your wife down?! I had her sister almost spill the beans, then Vero, then Kris’ girlfriend, everyone needs to chill!” I said as I looked at Pascal.

“Sorry man, but you know women, they get so excited about this stuff,” he said and I sighed and nodded my head, “You need to calm down too, have a drink relax.”

“I swear I need to freakin’ follow her around to make sure no one tells her,” I said and Pascal chuckled and patted my back.

“Everything will be fine, Sid,” I heard and then turned around to see that my dad was standing there.

“Dad!” I smiled and then saw my mom and sister walk up behind him, “You guys made it!”

“Of course we did! We wouldn’t miss this! It’s your-“

“Shhhh! I don’t know if she’s around, the woman has bat ears,” I laughed and my mom nodded her head.

“It’ll be all right Sid,” Taylor said and I took a deep breath.

“I hope you’re right,” I said and he laughed and then walked away.

I looked around the room and saw all of the kids playing games in the corner while the adults were mingling. I looked to see that Kris and Marc were talking with Julie and they all laughed about something. I walked over and was almost there when I felt someone grab my arm and spin me around.

“Sidney,” I looked to my side and saw Julie’s mother, “I’d like to talk to you son.”

“Um, can this wait, I have to protect your daughter’s ears from finding-“

“Now I know that you’ve only known Julie for a short time, less than a year but…”

‘…Oh boy this is gunna be a long night…’ I thought as I managed to sneak out of Mrs. McHale’s grasp and then switched my arm with Beau Bennett’s.

“Owe ya one,” I said and the snuck off.

It was just getting to be too hot in there, and I walked outside to get some air, to be honest, I was nervous about tonight. I heard the door open behind me and turned around and looked down to see that Josh had followed me outside.

“Hey little man!” I smiled and then picked him up and set him on the wall in front of me, “Get to me too much in there too?”

“Yeah, Kody and Jackson needed to go potty.”

“Oh, well you found me,” I smirked and ruffled his hair.

“Daddy, what’s going on tonight? Everyone’s acting weird around mom,” he said and I smiled and rubbed his shoulder.

“I’ll show you, but you have to keep it a secret, especially from your mom,” I said and he smiled and nodded his head.

-Julie-

“Sweetie, I think you need to slow down, that’s your third glass of wine,” mom said as I sat down and waved my face.

“I’m so hot,” I said and she laughed and kissed my cheek.

“Julie! Come on! Dance with us!” Andrea squealed as she ran over towards us and grabbed my hands, pulling me out onto the dance floor.

I had kicked my shoes off and slid into Vero who just laughed and grabbed my hand, ‘…What kind of get together was this?...’

There was a DJ, dance, food, alcohol, it was like this was a party of some sorts, and I was beyond confused.

After dancing for three songs, my sides were hurting and I wanted to get off of the dance floor, but a slow song came on and I felt myself being turned around. I smiled when I saw that it was Sidney, he had his hand on my waist and he took my hand.

“I didn’t know you could dance,” I smiled and he kissed my cheek.

“I was hoping that you could,” he laughed and I nodded my head.

“Dad taught me when I was six,” I laughed and he nodded his head, “I haven’t seen you all night!”

“I know, mingling at its finest,” he said and I laughed and nodded my head.

“I ran into your parents before,” I said and he nodded his head.

“They surprised me, they guys invited them, I’ve missed them, haven’t seen them since we left,” he said and I saw something in his eyes.

‘…Is he lying?...’

The song ended and I wanted to pull away but he pulled me back, “May I cut in?” I heard and looked to my side to see my dad standing there.

“Sure,” Sidney smiled and then handed me off to my father.

“It’s been a while since we danced together,” dad said and I smiled brightly and nodded my head.

When the song ended he wanted to go again, but I held up my hands and wanted to head back to my seat. I heard a voice over the loud speaker and saw that it was Sidney’s Coach; he was announcing that desert and coffee were being served. Everyone laughed when all of the kids saw that the desert was cake and screamed and ran to their tables.

I laughed and walked over towards mine to see that Josh was ready and waiting for that cake to be placed in front of him.

“Coffee?” a man asked and I looked at the small coffee cup in front of me.

“Uh-“

“You can put it in here, she has a tendency of spilling it if it’s not in a closed lid cup,” Sidney said and I laughed and nodded my head.

“Sorry, I don’t want to mess you table cloth up,” I said and he smiled and nodded his head. Sidney placed the coffee mug in front of me with the logo of the coffee shop that we met on the side. I smiled at the logo remembering the good times and then thanked the man when he walked away. I watched as Sidney took the mug and put the lid on it and gave it back, “Sid, come on, you know I put cream in it,” I laughed and then opened the lid and shook my head.

“Sorry babe, I forgot,” he said and then kissed my cheek.

I looked up to see that just about everyone was looking at me and I was feeling a little uncomfortable, “Uh, did I miss something?”

“No.”

I saw that Andrea had her phone pointed at me and she smiled, “Andy?”

“You’re just so cute,” she said and I laughed and then shook my head.

“Ok,” I opened the lid off my coffee and placed the lid on the table, “Can you hand me the cream?”

“Sure,” Sid said and handed it to me.

I poured the cream into the coffee and something shiny caught my eye. I looked at the lid on the table to see that there was a ring taped to the inside of it. My eyes widened and I jumped up, “Oh my god!”

Everything clicked, everyone was acting weird, Sidney nervous and lying, why my sister was here, why his parents and sister were here. This was a party, my party, Sidney was proposing to me. I had my hand over my mouth and I look started to cry and laugh at the same time. The coffee mug had tipped over when I stood up and was pouring onto the table.

Sidney reached over and grabbed the ring and looked at me, I kept on repeating ‘oh my god’, trying hard to breathe. He bent down on one knee in front of me and I had to hold onto the chair next to me which was being occupied by Pascal.

“Julie, will you marry me?” he asked and I laughed and then fell to my knees in front of him and nodded my head as I pressed my lips onto his.

“I love you,” I whispered as we pulled apart and I felt him slide the ring onto my finger, “You sneaky little bastard.”
