The One Night That Changed My Life Forever

Olympic Showdown

Rachel's POV
I woke up to Pat sleep talking. I laughed when I realized what he was dreaming about. He was going over the gold medal game in Sochi wondering what he could have done differently, and how he could have helped lead his team to a gold medal victory. I had been very excited the day Canada won (A/N Sorry to you american fans out there, but I gotta go with my home country, sorry P. Kane ;) ) for the second time in 4 years against the American team. Pat had this dream often, but I hoped he could put it behind him, and stop blaming himself even if he doesn't realize that he is doing it. It was hard to feel bad seeing as he knew where I stood, but I tried not to rub it in too much. Jonny however did the opposite, making sure Pat knew everywhere they went. Over time things had gotten back to normal. The olympic hype subdued, and regular duty called. It was pretty hard on Patrick going back into the locker room having to face four gold medalists. Seabs had gotten called up when one of the defence had gotten injured before the olympic break, and was a huge factor in the Canadian win, along with Keith, Sharpie, and of course Jon. But he managed, and soon everyone was united with a new goal, The Stanley Cup. I watched Pat, for a few moments before sinking back into the bed remembering back to before the Olympics.
*FLASHBACK*
"You packed yet?" Pat yelled from down the hallway.
"You sure you want me coming? Won't me cheering for the wrong team kinda suck? You do realize that me going means one more Canadian fan in the stands booing your team right?"
"Hmmmm, I hadn't thought about that. But yes I wan't you there, win or loose I know no matter what team you side with you will always be cheering me on and that's all that matters" he said leaning in for a kiss.
"Yes, that is until you get too many scoring chances against my boys" I laughed as Pat tried to take out some of my more Canadian choices of clothing.
"How about goals?"
"Dream on buddy" I said jokingly, chucking a few more things into my suitcase before shutting it and placing it back on its wheels. This is it I thought to myself. I could have never imagined myself in this position, heading to the Olympics even if it was only as a fan.
"There she is! Our Canadian" Sharpie exclaimed as I walked in with Pat into the airport.
"You ready to cheer your heart out for us?" Jon asked.
"You should have seen Pat this morning, when he saw my suitcase. I think he was a little worried when he tried to get rid of some of my let's just say Canadian clothing choices."
"Oh I bet."
"Can we see?" Keith and Seabs asked making their way over.
"Sure… I added a few extra things when Pat wasn't looking" I winked.
"Ummm. Wow! You cam prepared" Jonny stated.
"Yes I have two weeks where I have to cheer you guys on. I need to be prepared!"
"And Pat saw all of this, and still here you are boarding the plane. Wow Kaner has gone soft, you have definitely changed him. This would have never flied with the old Kaner."
"Well boy, I think he has come to understand the fact that you can't take the Canadian out of the girl. But I did promise I would see all his games, and cheer him on then. I mean it will make for a great gold medal game rematch" I laughed. "Which you boys better win!" I whispered loud enough for the boys to pick up and laugh.
"You are coming to all our games right?" Sharpie whined.
"Yes, you boys don't have to worry. You still are my favourite team. Look for me and you will find me somewhere in the stands looking very Canadian, with Kaner if he can make it or I can force him."
"Just use the you need to learn their weaknesses and strengths card. That should convince him pretty quickly, but distract him enough that he actually doesn't pick up on our weaknesses" Jonny said.
"Alright well I'm going to go check my bag, and go get my seat. See ya in Sochi boys. I'm feeling another gold medal this year" I smiled and made my way back through the crowd to where Pat was standing with some of the other players on the American team.
"Hey babe, hey guys."
"Hi, and who might you be?" a couple of the guys asked.
"This is my girlfriend Rachel, Rachel my team mates, team mates Rachel.
"Nice to meet you all. Good luck this year!" I said smiling.
"So what were you showing the guys over there? They seemed pretty amused" one of the American players asked.
"Ohhhh we don't need to get into that again today" Pat responded quickly, not wanting to be embarrassed in front of his team mates.
"Why not?" they whined.
"Its a surprise boys, you will just have to wait for it just like everyone else minus the Canadian boys over there" I winked at the huddle of Canadians and pointed at my suitcase then at the confused players behind me, as they started laughing and shaking their heads.
"Don't even ask" Pat said shaking his head addressing his confused team mates. "I'll see you boys later. I'm going to go find our seats."
"Bye. Nice meeting you Rach."
"Likewise" I said smiling turing to Pat.
"Well, I think that went well" I smirked kissing Pat quickly on the lips. He didn't seem too upset, so I took that as a good sign. "Sorry, its just soooooo hard not telling people I'm Canadian."
"It's ok" he laughed. "I'm not mad, just wondering how people are going to take it when they find out my amazing, and beautiful girlfriend doesn't even want to cheer my team on."
"Hey! That's not true. I will cheer for you as long as you don't play Canada. You didn't look all the way to the bottom of my suitcase you know."
"Continue."
"There is a lovely Kane jersey, that you will see me wearing every game. However in public I will be Canadian, so no complaining. You knew this when you invited me" I smirked knowing I was right.
"Alright fine. Let's go find our seats girlfriend."
"Right behind you boyfriend" I said following Pat into the check in area, and then onto the plane. The flight passed by quickly, after watching a movie with Pat and proceeding to fall asleep during said movie. I woke to someone shaking me awake. I then realized Pat had passed out too, and it was Jon waking me up to tell us that we were landing.
"Well aren't you two the cutest couple ever" Sharpie cooed. " You guys were actually too peaceful for me to mess with you and not feel guilty. Plus we need to stick together us Canadians" he winked laughing as Pat woke up groggily asking if we were there yet.
"Nice to see you too sleepyhead" Sharpie replied. "And that would be a yes to your question, we are landing now. "
"You guys ready?" I asked.
"Yes!" they all responded quickly.
"Olympics here we come!"
The first couple days were a blur. The guys all got settled in in their respective houses, and I to my hotel. I hadn't seen much of anyone, but that was to be expected. After all I was just a fan with some pretty good connections.
Finally the day had rolled around and it was time for my boys to play some hockey. Canada played the early game at 5, and Pat had the later game at 8 so it all worked out perfectly. I had a pass to get into any event, and all the games compliments of Pat and the Canadian boys. I had also convinced Pat to come watch some of the game with me. I wasn't surprised when he showed up decked in American clothing, still being overpowered by my Canadian ones. Sure we got a few looks, but why wouldn't we. Somehow no one seemed to recognize Pat, but then again who would expect him at a Canadian game. We watched the game from along the boards, beside the players tunnel, getting quite a few laughs from Jon and the boys when they saw I had been successful at dragging Pat along, even if it was only for a few minutes. Pat stayed the first period before having to get ready for a game of his own. I wished him good luck, and focused back on the game. Canada was winning 4-1 against Switzerland halfway through the second, keeping the lead until the final horn sounded and they were victorious in their first olympic match up. One down one to go I thought, as I made my way too my seat after congratulating the boys as they came down the tunnel. Now I just had to wait.
Jon~~ I see you got the kid out to our game.
Me~~ Yup. Even if it was only for the first period. Good game!
Jon~~ Thanks. What are you up to now?
Me~~ Waiting for Pat's game to start. You guys gonna come and keep me company amongst these Americans?
Jon~~ I'll ask the guys, but I'll come up. Us Canadians have got to stick together. Can't have you forgetting which team you are cheering for now can we?
Me~~Don't have to worry about that. Thanks I could use a friend in the stands. You better be nice. Not some obnoxious fan!
Jon~~ We are one our way up. Where are you sitting? Anyway we could sit close to you?
Me~~ Just come on up to section 110, and we will make something work. That or we go ice level.
Jon~~ Be there in 5.
Just like that I was joined by my Canadian boys, who didn't skip anything when it came to supporting Canadian clothing. They frowned when they saw the jersey I was wearing, but I just shrugged.
"What are you wearing?" Sharpie asked.
"Umm… awe come on guys you aren't even playing. I have to support him too" I said pointing out to Pat making his way on the ice. Don't worry when it comes down to the two of you everyone even Pat knows he does't stand a chance against you guys."
"Fine. But as soon as the game is over that thing your wearing is coming off. I mean right away" Sharpie said seriously.
"Don't worry boys" I said lifting up my jersey to show my lovely array of Canadian memorabilia. "Those Americans won't know what hit them when I walk into the locker room" I said laughing at the thought.
"They don't know do they?" Jon asked.
"No, but they knew something was up between me and you guys, but I decided to save Patrick the humiliation he would have received the first day. Plus this is a way better way for them to find out, however I don't think it will be that big of a deal" I said shrugging.
"Yah. Ok. Just like it wasn't a big deal for Pat after he found out?" Jon smirked.
"Nahh, he seemed pretty alright with it at least with me. Though you dragged it out super long with him, so I can see why he was so annoyed with you" I winked at Jon.
"Alright boys. We sitting or are we going to go ice level and show off some of our Canadian pride?"
"Well. Let's see that's a hard call. Seats or embarrassing Kaner. Hmmm it's a tough decision" Sharpie said mulling it over.
"Option number two" Jon said.
"Yah, plus there will be more room" Duncs chimed in.
"Alright then lets get down there before the game starts. I know you guys don't really need to watch the game, but I want to." We made our way down to the boards to the same place Pat and I had been earlier that afternoon. The Americans won the game easily, and Pat had even scored a goal. I knew he would be happy with the way he and his team had played. The boys decided that it was probably best to stay away from the American locker room. Just like Sharpie had said he made me take off the jersey and promise not to wear it otherwise I would never see it again. I let the guys know they had nothing to worry about and that Patrick was going to have to love me just the way I am. I made my way down the hallway and waited for the players to come out. I got a few looks from some of the team. They were probably wondering if I had gotten the wrong room or something, but I didn't mind I just smiled as they walked past.
"Rach. Its Rachel right? We met earlier at the airport."
"Yes. Rachel or Rach whatever you prefer. Sorry I didn't catch your name earlier."
"I'm Jonathan Quick, the goaltender."
"Well, I guess congratulations are in order. You played a hell of a game out there!" I exclaimed.
"Thank you. Now may I ask what you are wearing?"he said raising an eyebrow.
"What? This? This is my everyday attire. What didn't Pat tell you?"
"Tell him what?" Pat said walking out of the room.
"The fact that I'm Canadian silly, what else?"
"Ah now this all makes sense, good job Patty you finally find your girl and she wont even be cheering you on" he chuckled.
"Yes, but that also means I won't be cheering you on either" I said pouting at Jonathan.
"Damn, but we were becoming such good friends. I mean, Damn. I knew you were too good to be true"
"Hahaha, ok that's enough embarrassing me for one night." Pat joked. "I thought you were going to wear my jersey?" he whispered questioningly in my ear.
I opened my purse and patted the jersey. "I had to take it off after the game cause Sharpie threatened to torch it. Oh the sacrifices I have made for this jersey" I said sweetly.
"Yah, yah sure. Wanna grab something quick to eat and hang? I'm quite tired to be honest" he said almost as if he was worried about me being mad.
"Yah. Why don't we just order room service and watch a movie or something. I am quite tired from today anyways so I won't stay too late. I need to be energized for the rest of the tournament."
"Sounds good." We made our way to his room, and settled down on the couch waiting for the food to arrive. I grabbed out my phone and looked at my texts while Pat focused on the replays of todays games.
Jon~~ What are you two lovebirds doing tonight? Wait never mind don' answer that.
Me~~ Sorry just got back from the game. Seriously? Good to know how much you think of me ;) We just ordered in and were just about to watch a movie. Why?
Jon~~ We were just thinking of having a get together with some of the other NHL players, just to hang. But if he's too tired don't worry about it.
Me~~ I'll ask him. Where are we going?
Jon~~ Quaint little sports bar. Nothing to strenuous, got to be able to play in two days.
Me~~ Alright one sec I'll ask him.
"Hey Pat?"
"Yah?"
"Want to go out with the guys and some of the NHL players tonight?"
"Sure. I'll have to have a small nap though. Do you want to go or not?"
"For a while. I want to meet some of the guys. But I'm not going to stay out to late. That alright with you?"
"I don't think I'm staying super late either, so yup no problem."
"Ok well I'm going to head home have a quick nap, and change. I'll be back here by 8:30ish."
"Where are we going?"
"Sports bar" I said shaking my head. "Only Jon would pick a sports bar" I laughed.
"Should be interesting. I'll see you later then" he said settling into the couch as I opened the door and made my way back to my hotel.
Me~~ Jon we are in. I'll be in your guys' hotel around 8:30ish. Make sure Pat wakes up ;)
Jon~~Perfect. Yup we will give him a proper wake up call at 7:45. Don't worry he will be fine.
Me~~ Wasn't worried. He deserves it if he is still asleep. Take pictures lol.
Jon~~ K. See you tonight.
With that I settled into my bed setting my alarm for 7:15 before dozing of to sleep.
I woke to my alarm going off. I was amazed that I actually managed to sleep during the day. I got up and got changed. I curled my hair, nothing fancy and put on a light coating of makeup. Not long after I was on my way to the hotel. I got there around 8:15 and saw the guys chilling in the lobby.
"Hey guys! Pat up yet?"
"Haha ya. He woke up before we could do anything" Sharpie pouted.
"Awe you guys are such a disappointment" I smirked at the Canadians.
"Whatever you still love us."
"Fine. I could never not love you guys. I mean really."
"You better love me better!" Pat said coming up from behind me giving me a small kiss on the lips.
"If you keep that up then yes" I winked as he kissed me again.
"Now do you love me more?"
"It's always been you" I winked, then smirked as the guys around shook their heads.
"So are we going to go celebrate you guys both winning?"
"Yah. We are meeting up with come of the American and Canadian teams there. Also the rest of the Hawks are coming and then whoever they decide to bring" Jonny responded.
"Cool. Is Crosby going to be there? Totally the number one Canadian playing in the NHL at the moment" I asked Jon, seeing if I could get under his skin.
"Yes." he said cooly.
"Lighten up Captain I was just kidding. No one can top you guys on my favourite Canadian list" I shook my head laughing at how gullible they could be.
Unfortunately the press was just as annoying half the way around the world, meaning that we didn't have as much privacy as we would have liked. The sports bar was cozy and full of hockey players. No wonder the press are hounding around here I thought to myself. I had met a lot of players. People seemed surprised that I would have given Pat a chance but I just shrugged it off, and said you can't help who you love. I let Pat go off with some friends and made my way outside for some air. I guess I forgot about the press who were on me in an instant.
"Who are you?" someone shouted.
"How do you know the Hawks?" another shouted.
"Um. I'm a friend of the team. " I said trying to make my way back into the bar. Pictures were being taken, and I wasn't getting anywhere close to getting back in. Jon must have seen my struggle, as he was out the door in an instant telling the press to back off, and to leave me alone.
"Is she your girlfriend?"
"No. And that's none of your business."
"So a friend of the team huh?" one guy said not seeming too convinced.
"Yes, she is. So back off and go find some other story" he said slinging his arm around my shoulder guiding me back into the bar.
"Thanks for saving me Jonny" I smiled.
"No problem, though you could have handled them."
"I don't know about that. I needed male presence if I was ever going to make it back in here. Thanks for covering for me, I don't think Pat and I are quite ready to go public. But soon, and I'm going to have to learn how to deal with that" I said pointing at the press taking pictures through the windows.
"Haha yah. You will get used to it" he laughed shaking his head while watching the reporters.
"You seen Pat lately?"
"Last time I saw him he was over by the bar" Jon pointed.
"Alright. Thanks Jon again for saving me" I said making my way to the bar. I found Pat surrounded by a group of girls and some guys. They all seemed to be having fun. Pat smiled when he saw me, and introduced me. The girls didn't look to happy about his protectiveness of me, even if he hadn't completely admitted we were dating, you could surely tell.
"I'm going to go. Don't get into too much trouble. I love you" I whispered in his ear.
"See ya tomorrow. Have a good night. Love you too Rach" he whispered back.
"Night guys. It was nice meeting you." I turned back and said my goodbyes to the Hawks and the new friends I had made. After hugging my favourite Canadians goodbye I went back to the hotel, falling asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I didn't know why but I always seemed tired. I pushed that thought to the back of my mind, giving my brain the peace it needed to sleep.
*Next Morning*
I awoke in my own bed reenergized and ready to take on the day ahead. Pat hadn't texted me yet so I decided to chill. I put on some sweats and a t-shirt, and grabbed some cereal and watched the morning news. I wasn't surprised when my picture along with others from last night surfaced.
1 NEW TEXT
Jon~~ Not what it looks like trust me.
Me~~ What?
Jon~~ The news. Honestly not what it looks like.
I turned my focus back on the news where they were showing video of a couple of the guys and Pat getting into a car with women at their sides.
"Looks like the boys are still boys ladies and gentlemen." The news reporter spoke.
Me~~ EXPLAIN!
Jon~~ Well… they were drunk and I admit we were a little buzzed. So we said yes when they asked if they could get a ride home with us. Thinking nothing of it. Then when we realized their intentions we well Pat told them to get out of the car.
Me~~ I'm supposed to believe that you and Pat refused willing girls while you were under the influence? Why don't I believe your whole story Jon? Why hasn't Pat texted me pleading his case?
Jon~~ Honestly nothing big happened. They started kissing us, and believe me Pat pushed her away as fast as he could. He's out cold in our room.
Me~~ I'm on my way over. You better be telling me the truth Jon.
What a great way to start my day. My face being plastered over the TV fortunately it was only in Russia I hope. Though it was bound to make it back to the states soon enough, and then back to my family. I hoped it would come from me though. Fortunately I was still anonymous so it gave me at least a few weeks to tell my parents. I will just have to lay low for the rest of the week until I could make it back to North America and figure out how to break the news to my parents. I thought of these things while making my way to the boys' hotel. When I knocked on Jon's door, he immediately opened it. I saw Pat sprawled awkwardly on the couch. I just shook my head at the sight. How could someone sleep in that position I had no idea.
"I'm sorry again about last night. I know being drunk is no excuse so we might have let it go a little far, but I promise nothing happened. And nothing was ever going to happen. The kid loves you, and he did nothing wrong."
"It's ok Jon. You give me no reason not to trust you. I'm not mad. It still hurt though having to watch that on the news, and me having to be the friend of the team. Not that I mind being your friend, it just kind of stings when they expect him just to be sleeping around. Although it did take some of the heat of of finding out who I was. I'm going to have to tell my parents soon enough. Maybe I can make it up March break."
"Ok, well I need to recover from last night. You are welcome to stay. Make yourself comfortable. Order up some food, whatever you want K?"
"Thanks Jon. Go get some sleep. You need to be ready to play your heart out tomorrow." I made my way over to Pat. I tried to make him more comfortable, to which he stretched out on the couch mumbling something falling back to sleep. Unbelievable he is sleeping through this I thought to myself as I found a blanket. I snuggled into Pat's body, pulled the blanket over top of us, and fell back to sleep for the second time that day.
"Rach? What are you doing here?" Pat asked groggily.
"Making sure you didn't get into even more trouble" I said not moving. If he heard me he didn't acknowledge it.
"How was last night? What did you get up to?"
"Nothing much, just hung out with the guys, and then Taze and I came back here. Want some food?"
"Nope. I'm going back to my hotel" I said getting up quickly upset that the first thing he had thought about was food, and not the girl he was seen leaving the bar with. I walked out the door, slamming it shut and going back to my room. I sat watching movies, and eating ice-cream. I decided to go out for a run afterwards making sure to bring my phone just in case I got lost. I let out all my anger through running, wondering how long it would take Pat to put together the reason I was mad. If it had been anyone else I would have been gone on the first flight, making them wait to apologize but I just hoped Pat would realize sooner rather than later. I wasn't mad about the past night's events, I was mad at the fact that he hadn't said anything, as if I was stupid and didn't know that he left with a girl. After an hour of running I went back to my room and hopped in the shower. I came out and looked at my phone which I had on silent.

I scanned over Pat's messages. They were mostly where are you, and what did I do, and are you mad at me? I found Jon's and replied.
Jon~~Where are you Pat's freaking out you aren't at your hotel room?
Me~~ Sorry went for a run. I had to get my feelings out.
Jon~~ Thank God. You couldn't have checked your phone?
Me~~ Shouldn't have to. I'm going out I'll talk to you later.
Jon~~ Where? We are in Russia?
Me~~ None of your business you will just tell Pat.
Jon~~ Be careful. You mad at me?
Me~~ Nope. Your best friend though.
Jon~~ What did he do?
Me~~ Oh. Nothing much. Just left out the fact that he left with more than just you. Oh and then to top it off he asked if I wanted breakfast as if nothing had happened and I was too stupid to ever know anything about last night.
Jon~~ I see. Ok I'll give you your space. Want me to say anything to him? Maybe bully him around a little?
Me~~ No. Let him figure it out by himself. If he hasn't by the time you play his team I give you full permission to be physical. :)
Jon~~ Let's hope he isn't that dumb. I look forward to it though. Be safe.
Me~~ Will do. Thanks for telling me the truth Jon. Something I wish my BOYFRIEND would do. I guess it's too much to ask. After all he is Patrick Kane. I thought he would be honest with me. I guess I thought wrong.
Jon~~ He will figure it out. Give him a bit of time. He loves you, don't ever doubt it. Sometimes he is stupid though. Sorry again.
Me~~ It's alright, we will be fine. I just want him to be honest with me. I'm not going to loose him over this, unless he never tells me the truth.
Jon~~ He will don't worry. What do you want me to tell him? He is still freaking out over here.
Me~~ Nothing I got this. Bye Jon.
Pat~~ Are you mad at me?
Me~~ What do you think?
Pat~~ Uhh I don't know. Yes?
Me~~ Unbelievable.. Whatever I'm going out. Talk to you later.
I bought myself a coffee and found a cute park bench and sat there thinking about everything.

Pat's POV
"Jon I'm worried. She stormed out of here this morning, and she isn't in her apartment. Where is she? She isn't answering her phone. I don't know what to do Jon!"
"Let me text her" Jon said. I watched in disbelief as he got a response right back. I heard his phone going off in the kitchen. I wondered what I had done to make Rach so mad. She was talking to him, and not me?
1 New message
My Rach~~ What do you think?
I didn't know what to say. Why was she being this way? We had been fine last night.
Me~~ Uhh I don't know. Yes?
My Rach~~ Unbelievable.. Whatever I'm going out. Talk to you later.
Maybe that hadn't been the best thing to say. I needed to figure out why she was mad. I went to the kitchen and found Jon.
"Did Rach say why she was mad at me?"
"Seriously you don't know? I'm going with your girlfriend on this one. Unless you suffered from a complete case of memory loss, you are unbelievable." I stood there confused.
"MY GOD! Watch the news you idiot" Jon exclaimed leaving the room. I grabbed my computer and turned it on. I put the TV on as well, hoping to see what had happened to Rach last night. I found some pictures of the night, they all seemed civil. I focused on the news as the hour rolled around. I was surprised when a segment about the bar came on. I saw Rach being hounded by photographers, only to be saved by Jon. When it cut to later on in the night, I finally understood.
"Shit." I screwed up royally this morning. She was waiting for an apology, and I practically lied to her face. Crap I had dug myself quite a hole on this one. There was a picture of a girl and I kissing in a car circulating as well. I was never going to be able to fix this one.

Erica~~ I see you are back to your old ways Pat. Don't be stupid big bro.
Me~~ Not what it looks like.
Erica~~ It looks like you kissing a girl? How are you going to prove me wrong? Photoshopped?
Me~~ I didn't kiss her, she kissed me. I dropped her off and came home. I have no time for puck bunny distractions at the Olympics.
Erica~~ Hmm Yes I'm sure that's it. I'm glad nothing happened with her. You deserve better Patty. We are flying out tonight so we will be there for your game. I love you Pat
Me~~ Wait you guys are coming? I thought you couldn't?
Erica~~We decided to make it work. I kinda ruined the surprise. Sorry.
Me~~ Wow. I'm still surprised. Can't wait to see you guys. Love you too little sis.
I really had to fix things with Rach before my family got here and made things even more complicated.

Erica's POV
"Mom!"
"Sorry I might have let it slide we were coming to see Pat"
"That's ok. Though it would have been a great reaction" mom laughed.
"Oh yes, believe me his reaction was great, even over text message. I can tell he is probably freaking out now."
"Well are you ready to head out? Your sisters are just getting finished then we are heading out. Did Patty say anything about the picture?"
"Yah the chick apparently kissed him and took a picture of it. He dropped her off at home and went back to his hotel room."
"Good to know I raised a smart son" mom smiled happily.
"Yah but I have another prediction, as to why he hasn't turned back into his old self. Especially after he was cheated on."
"And what would that be Erica? I say he is just growing up."
"I bet you twenty bucks he has a new girlfriend."
"He would have told us. Wouldn't he?"
"It could be new, but whoever it is he must like her if he didn't take interest in a girl chasing him. I mean really all the signs are there, he is happy, he isn't being the old Patrick, and he got cheated on but you never see anything crazy happening with him. He also hasn't been in the press in forever."
"I guess. Do you think she is there?"
"Probably. He didn't think we were coming so he would have wanted some company."
"Well enough about your brother. Lets quit the gossiping and go find out shall we."
"I'm telling you mom. All the signs are there."

Pat's POV
After my conversation with Erica, I knew how big of an idiot I had been. Even if I hadn't done anything, it would have made Rach feel like crap seeing me in that position. I had to make it up to her.
Me~~ Rach I'm sorry. I just remembered everything from last night. The news makes it seem so much worse, but I hurt you either way and I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me.
My Rach~~ Took you long enough, though not as long as I expected. I forgive you. But you better not hurt me again.
Me~~ I want to make it up to you, for being such a terrible boyfriend. Where are you? Want to go out for lunch?
My Rach~~ I'm in some park like five minutes south of your hotel. Meet me by the bench. Please keep on the down low though. I've already had too much media attention. Much more and everyone will know I'm with you, and that isn't how I want my family finding out.
Me~~ K. I'll be there in five. You won't even recognize me ;)
I got changed quickly making myself look hardly recognizable. My "disguise" obviously was working when even my best friend did a double take, having to make sure it was me.
"Seriously Pat? Who are you hiding from?" Jon questioned.
"I'm going to meet Rach. I'm hiding from the frigin media. I've already had my family questioning where my focus is."
"So you two made up?"
"I think so. I still have some work to do, but thanks for making me watch the news. It all came flooding back after that. Anyways I have to go. Don't want to be late."
"Later dude. Good luck" he said clapping my shoulder as I made my way onto the elevator. I made my way through the back exit of the hotel and went south looking for the park. It was easy to find, almost as easy as Rach.
"Hey" I said semi out of breath from running to the park.
"Hey. I missed you" she said kissing me. "I wanted to do that this morning, but then you pissed me off so I guess now that you've apologized…"
"Missed you too" I said kissing her a spinning her around. "I'm sorry for hurting you even if last night was a blur. I love you and I would never cheat on you, you have to know that."
"I believe you. Plus Jon told me the truth this morning. I was never worried about that, I was just upset that Jon told me the truth and you didn't even mention it when I asked. But what's done is done. I forgive you. So lets go get some food, and create some more happier memories. I hate fighting, especially with you."
"Same. I don't know where to eat here, but we could just go get something like some sandwiches, and we could have a small picnic?"
"Yah. I just came from Starbucks. I wouldn't mind another coffee and we could grab a couple things there to eat and then go for a walk."
"Sounds good. I love you Rach" I said kissing her again. I was so happy to have her back in my arms. I would tell her about meeting my family after our walk. We got our food, and walked around the city for a bit before settling down in a little park. Everything was back to normal, and we were back to the couple we used to be.
"So Rach. I kind of have something else to tell you. You might not like it."
"Patrick Kane what else are you keeping from me?" She said sounding mad but managing to keep the question directed only at me, to be heard only by me.
"No, no nothing bad. But you remember when I said my family wasn't coming."
"Yah. What's your point?"
"Well they had wanted to surprise me sotheyaregoingtobeheretomorrow" I said quickly.
"Déjà vu eh? It's ok I was going to have to meet them for real at some point. I hope this isn't awkward!"
"Really you are fine with it?"
"Nah. I'm freaking out inside but I'll be fine. I just hope the like me."
"Frig,Rach. They love you. They wanted to set me up with you after meeting you for two hours at a hockey game."
"I hope you are right. What do you think their reaction will be? Do you think they will recognize me?"
"I don't know probably, although it has been over 3 months. But they will love you!"
"Fine, but I'm wearing my Canadian stuff. Atleast to the guy's game before you. If you are nice to me, and promise to help me with the parents then I might just wear your jersey. Though meeting your family in a Toews jersey signed by team Canada would be pretty priceless" she laughed.
"Wear whatever you want they will love you either way. Though seeing you in my jersey is a major turn on, so maybe you could save my jersey for later, and profess your love of Canada earlier" I whispered in her ear, watching her turn red as she playfully smacked my shoulder.
"What? I can't be excited like that around my parents. Plus they need to meet the real you, the Canadian you."
"Ok well I hat to cut this short, but I have to get back and write a paper for school."
"Ahh yes school."
"I don't know how you convinced my teachers to email me the lectures, and allow me to hand in my assignments electronically but thank you again. Although I wish you could have worked your magic and made it so that I didn't have to worry about school at all" she pouted.
"You are almost done. It's spring break the week after we get home, and then it is the home stretch. Now get going, and finish that paper so we can hang tomorrow. Atleast you only have one course this semester."
"Ok, I'm off. I'll text you tonight, but I probably won't see you until tomorrow. Please don't have sat me beside your family again" she joked.
"I'm not in control of that, but you will probably just hang out with the Canadian guys anyways. Love ya Rach. See you tomorrow." With that we went our separate ways. Back at the hotel I cleaned up and watched Tv. I hung out with some of me team for dinner and then went off to bed early, making sure to get a good sleep. I have a lot of people to impress tomorrow is what I was thinking just before crashing. I woke up early for the morning skate, then came back and fell back asleep after texting Rach, telling her I was going to sleep and that I would see her at the game. I made my way to the rink a little early to watch some of the Canada game, and to say hi to Rachel. I found her in the same spot as before focusing on the game. "Hey babe, how are the guys doing?"
"Hey to you too. They are kicking Norway's butts." I looked to the scoreboard seeing that Canada was in fact winning 5-0. Man they are going to be tough competition I thought to myself.
"Well I just wanted to say I love you, and the guys will be waiting to keep you company during the game. Seems the only reason they want to come is because you are here, but oh well."
"Love you too. Good luck Pat. Your family here yet?"
"I don't know I haven't seen them but they are probably around somewhere. I'm going to go find them. I'll see you after the game." I left her watching the game. As soon as I left her focus was immediately back on the game. Man its going to be hard to see her cheer against me I thought. I called my parents, finding out where they were, and made my way off to meet them before I had to get ready for the game. I hadn't seen them since the last game they had been to, so it had been over two months.
"PATTY!" I heard three voices call from behind me.
"Hey guys" I said engulfing them all into a bear hug. "I missed you guys!"
"Mom, Dad I missed you too" I said hugging my mom, and man hugging my dad.
"We missed you too! How much longer till you have to get dressed?"
"Well…I kinda have to go now. But we should totally catch up later!"
"Good luck son" Dad said squeezing my shoulder.
"Yah Good Luck Patty" my three sisters and mom added.
"Thanks guys. I'm so glad you could make it." I turned back toward the locker room, getting ready for the game.
*********
Erica's POV
Pat had left to get dressed and we went to go get some snacks and find our seats. While we were getting something to eat I thought I spotted someone I recognized.
"Hey Jackie, isn't that the girl from the hawks game?"
"Which one?"
"The one wearing the Toews jersey over there getting a coffee?"
"It could be."
"Jess is that the same girl?"
"I think so. She must be Tazer's girl or something."
"Small world. We should say hi after the game! I wonder if she will recognize us?"
"Sure, but we lost mom and dad lets go find our seats" Jackie said.
Our seats were good, thanks to our brother's player status. I saw the guys from Pat's team down by the Zamboni tunnel with the girl from before. I couldn't help but wonder why they would come watch the US play, but I guessed it was to pick up on weaknesses.
"Hey Mom. Look who it is" I said pointing down to the Canadian huddle by the ice.
"Who? Your brother's team?"
"No the girl. She's the one from the Hawks game."
"Yes, I remember her. I wonder what she is doing here. Such a nice girl!"
"Well she's wearing a Toews jersey and hanging with the Canadian team, so our guess is she is dating Jonny."
"Makes sense" mom replied. "I hope Pat can find someone nice like her."
Then suddenly the game was on. The conversation was dropped and our focus was on Pat and the game. The game was tight, but after the second period our team had broke down the swedish defence and opened the scoring. We ended up winning the game 4-2. We were all super excited, as were the Canadians below. They weren't celebrating per say but they seemed happy with the result. We slowly made our way to the locker rooms and waited for Pat to come out. I saw the Canadian's make their way out, but Tazer's girl wasn't with them. She came down a few minutes later with a laughing Jonathan Quick. Man this girl gets around with her Jonathans I thought to myself. 2 in one day, pretty impressive. I decided that now was the time to go say hi. Quick saw me coming smiled, hugged the girl and made his way outside.
**************
Rachel's POV
I had seen the girls staring at me earlier, but didn't make eye contact knowing they would recognize me right away and want to come talk. I wouldn't be able to talk too long before Pat would somehow come up…I figured they probably assumed I was dating Jon, due to my jersey, and the fact I was hanging with half the friggin Canadian team by the end of the game. It had started off as just me and the hawks, which then grew to over half the team. Crosby and Kunitz along with Stamkos and a few others had decided to watch the remainder of the game as well although I figured for different reasons. I laughed when the American bench noticed us. I just shrugged and smiled, as the guys on the bench shook their heads. The boys ended up winning the game. The Canadians were actually happy that they won, claiming they wanted to play them to prove which was the better team. I just laughed and walked back with them towards the locker rooms. We stopped by the Canadian room first to grab the coats and things left behind, and then headed to the American locker room side. I hugged the guys goodbye and made sure the coast was clear before heading into the American locker room.
"Great game out there today boys!"
"Rach!" a chorus of guys shouted when they saw me walk in.
"Thanks girl! I saw your managed to even get Crosby out to see us!" Quick said laughing.
"That I had nothing to do with. I think he had ulterior motives. But the Hawks came willingly with me" I smiled.
"Hey Pat" I said looking at my half naked boyfriend. "Your family was just getting here when I came in so they are probably waiting for you."
"Thanks Rach! Come here" he said pulling me into a short and sweet kiss.
"So you ready to face the fam?"
"I'm sure they think I'm Jonny's girlfriend. Erica just kept looking at him and then me, although she was doing it pretty subtly."
"Well we could have fun with that!" Pat smirked.
"You are totally going to introduce me as his girlfriend aren't you?"
"Nah but I won't deny it if they bring it up."
"Fine… I'm going to head out then. Come out when you are done."
"Quick wait up" I yelled at the goalie making his way to the door.
"What up?"
"Just needed some muscle to protect me from Pat's family. Just kidding. But I needed someone to talk to while slowpoke over there gets ready, and since you are my best friend off the team I thought we could talk lol."
"Umm I'll see what I can do."
"So you ready to play my boys?" I asked making my way out of the room beside Quick.
"Haha yah, it's always fun to play the Canadians. It's rematch time this year though."
"That's what you think eh?" we said stopping halfway down the hall.
"I say it's going to be a repeat of 4 years ago" I said as we made our way out towards the people waiting for the players to come out.
"Well I'm not going down without a fight" Quick laughed.
"There's nothing wrong with a silver, I mean maybe two silvers will make a gold medal" I said punching his shoulder.
"Haha very funny. We will see who's laughing once the Olympics are over."
"Oh we will" I replied still laughing. " I wish both teams could get the medal though. When you guys don't win I'll make you a gold medal" I winked.
"Hmmmm ok. Well it was nice talking to you but im calling incoming and getting out of this before it gets complicated. You coming tomorrow?" he asked giving me a quick hug.
"Yup. You guys have the early game for once. See ya tomorrow Quick" I waved bye.
"Erica how are you? We met at the Hawks game 3 months ago" I said to her as she made her way up.
"Wow you remembered my name. Now I feel bad I completely forgot yours."
"Rachel, but everyone around here calls me Rach."
"Cool. How are you enjoying the Olympics?"
"It's amazing. I can go see any sport at anytime and not have to worry about seats. I have to do some school work though, but it isn't too much. It's nice to hang with the guys for a couple weeks."
"I get it. You should come see my sisters. We weren't sure if it was you before."
"Sure thing. It would be nice to see everyone again" I smiled trying to hid my nerves.
"Hey guys. Nice to see you all again!"
"You too, Rachel was it?" Mrs. Kane replied.
"Yup. That's me. So what brings you guys to Sochi?" I asked knowing full well the answer.
"Here to see our son play" Donna replied.
"Ah yes, your son. He played pretty good today eh? Almost as good as my Canadian boys" I said laughing.
"I'm guessing you are Canadian then?" Pat Sr asked.
"Yup. I did 4 years of University up in Ottawa, and I'm at The University of Chicago for a one year exchange sort of program. This is only my second year living outside of Canada, so I could never ditch my team" I winked.
"So are you staying for the whole Olympics?" Jackie asked.
"Yup. I might as well with my pass. Plus I want to watch the hockey finals. How about you guys?"
"Yes we are staying. It's sort of like a family vacation, with the bonus of our son playing in the Olympics" Pat Sr replied.
"So I see you guys have met Rach" my Pat said making his way over to hug his family.
"Yup, we've met her before too. Great game Patty" Jackie smiled at him.
"So what are you guys talking about?"
"The Games, our family vacation not much else" Erica responded.
"Fun. So what's up. Any plans?" Pat asked.
"The girls were just making plans to go shopping with Rachel so we can do whatever you want" Pat's mom responded.
We left Pat on his own, with his mom and dad and headed out on a mini shopping spree.
"So you and Toews friends?" Erica asked as we made our way into a dress store.
"Yah, I'm good friends with the whole Hawks team, and then most of the American and Canadian teams.
"So you knew the team that game?"
"Yah, I didn't want to flounce it in anyone's face, and like I said I had no idea who you guys were."
"Here try this on" she said handing me a dress. I went in and changed into the dress. It was beautiful, and fell down my body perfectly. I came out to all three Kane sisters gasping saying that I had to buy the dress. It was beautiful, and it wasn't too far out of my price range. Somehow Pat had managed to stuff my wallet with money in the time before I left. I just shook my head and laughed when I went up to pay and saw the bills. Buy something nice was written on one of the bills.
"Wow enough money" Erica said when she saw the bills in my wallet.
"Haha ya. It's not mine. The one bill had buy something nice written on it. Weird huh?" I said smirking.
"That classifies as nice, now lets continue on. The other two went to the store across the hall."
"Alright, ready to go."
"Sooo…"
"Yes?"
"You and Toews aren't dating are you?"
"Nope never have been why?"
"Just wondering, trying to put everything together. You see I notice things. I notice more things than my own mother."
"Nope we've never dated, but we are great friends. He is the Canadian version of my best friend."
"So… How long have you been dating my brother?"
"Umm…" I said knowing I was turning red.
"I KNEW IT!" she whisper screamed. "So how long?"
"End of December."
"Awe that's so cute!!! I like you more than Megan anyways."
"Thanks, how did you know?"
"Well, first there was the Hawks jersey, then the way he lights up around you, and the fact he hadn't turned into a total man whore after getting cheated on made me think he had to have a new girl. Then when you didn't come back out with Toews and I saw you knew the American team, and Pat I just kinda suspected. Then the money in the wallet is a classic Patty trick, so I just figured."
"Alright well that's enough about me. How about you any boys? Don't worry I won't tell your brother."
"Not at the moment."
"That's alright you are beautiful, and have nothing to worry about" I laughed as we caught sight of the other two Kane sisters and made our way over.
"Can I tell them? Please?" Erica asked obviously excited to have yet another girl in her life.
"Fine. It's not like you would be able to keep it a secret anyways."
"So girls. Guess what I just learned?"
"What?"
"Pat has a girlfriend."
"Who is it? Have we met her? Is she pretty?"
"Well… Yes we have met her, and she is very pretty. Any guesses?"
"Is she at the Olympics?"
"Yup."
"Well..its quite obvious then." Jackie said, with Jess nodding her head in agreement smiling at me.
"Let's go find Patrick! Welcome to the fam Rach by the way."
"Haha we aren't to that point yet but thanks. What are you guys going to do to Pat?"
"We are going to beat him up and get mad at him for not telling us sooner!" With that we took our purchases, and made our way back to Pat's hotel room. I texted him warning him that he had three sisters coming in hot. He just laughed saying he could take it, and that his parents were close to putting it together.
"PATRICK TIMOTHY KANE! Get your butt over here right now!" Erica yelled at Pat as her Jess and Jackie stood in a triangle formation, arms crossed angry looks on their faces.
"What did I do?" he replied innocently.
"Haha very funny, do mom and dad know?"
"Not, yet but I'm guessing this is my warning that they are about to right."
"Oh, how you know me."
"MOM! You owe me twenty bucks! I totally called this."
"Patrick! How could you not tell us?" Donna said putting her hand to her heart.
"Tell us what?" Pat Sr asked obviously confused at what the girls knew that he didn't.
"Well, I have a new girlfriend" he shrugged making it seem like nothing.
"And who might… ahh I get it now."
"So how long have you guys been dating then?" he said looking between Pat and I.
"Since the end of December, we met the same night we both caught our exes cheating on us. We helped each other heal, and have been inseparable ever since." I replied.
"So you guys knew each other the day we came to the game?"
"Yah but I had absolutely no idea who you are. Though looking back Pat did, I remember a look of shock when he looked up and saw us sitting beside one another."
"Well come on in! We were just about to head out for supper would you like to join?"
"Sure. We aren't going anywhere fancy?" I said looking down at my attire.
"Nah, just casual. We don't want to draw too much attention, but you look wonderful dear" Donna said squeezing my shoulder. "Now you two go get ready! Same to you girls be ready in 30 minutes" Donna announced to everyone. I didn't need much attention, but I took of the jersey and put on one of my new sweaters to go along with my black skinny jeans and Uggs that I already had on. I fixed my mascara in Pat's bathroom before making it back up to his room. I helped him get changed. and we walked down to his family's room just 2 floors below Pat's.
"Isn' that the shirt you bought today?" Erica asked.
"I didn't have time to make it back to my hotel and changed so I had no choice. There is no way I was wearing my Toews jersey to dinner with the Kanes" I laughed.
"I thought you guys would never get here on time. I mean mom gave a thirty minute time limit" she said winking.
"Eriiica!" Pat exclaimed covering his ears.
"What I know how you are after winning. I am your sister" she said and with that I burst out laughing.
"Maybe we should just say we can't make it" he said whispering in my ear loud enough for Erica to hear.
"Fine. Pat stop" she pouted.
"Ok!" he responded to his sister before turning to me " Later though" he whispered this time only for me. Dinner went by fast. We got to know each other, got to learn some embarrassing stories. Though I only told one or two, and I got to hear a lot more about Pat.
Time seemed to fly by after then. Between hanging out with the Kanes and watching both the Canadian and American teams it had somehow turned into the Gold medal game between non other than Canada and the USA. The stands were packed. I was surprised at the number of North Americans who had made it out to cheer for their teams. The Canadians were dominant, though not by much. The game was great, full of excitement and great players. Canada ended up winning the game 3-2 after scoring a goal early in the third period. They put a rock solid defence up after that winning them the game. I was excited for the guys which I made sure they knew, but I also made sure that Pat could tell I was sorry about his loss. He had been pretty bummed the rest of the trip, but he understood how great silver was as well. I wore my new dress to the closing banquet, getting a lot of compliments, and a lot of people telling Pat how lucky he was. When the plane finally landed in O'Hare we were all tired and ready to go home. Pat's family had flown back to Buffalo a few days earlier, I went home and slept, and as they say the rest is history.
*END FLASHBACK*
Pat's POV
"Rach." I said lightly shaking her not knowing wether or not she was awake.
"I'm up" was her reply.
"What ya thinking about?"
"Haha the same thing you were just dreaming about" she said facing me to give me a kiss.
"How did you know, Wait was I talking in my sleep again?"
"Yup, but don't worry I find it cute. I have to get going, my family is leaving this morning so I better not miss the ride home. Good luck tomorrow. I love you and I'll see you sometime Saturday or Sunday."
"Alright. I love you too. You better be watching Friday night."
"For sure! The leafs are playing "she laughed sticking out her toungue.
"Very funny, now get going I don't want to be the reason you are stranded in Ottawa."
"Say bye to Jon for me when he gets back. Love you" she leaned in giving me a quick kiss as she made her way out the door. The road trip passed by quickly after Rachel left, and then I was back home sleeping Saturday night, wondering what Sunday would bring.

Great job

Amazing job. Wasn't expecting him to have another kid from a different relationship in this story. Kudos for them for not resenting each other or the kid though. Great job
