Redemption of a Puck Slut: Part II

May 16, 2014

May 7, 2014

Dear Diary,

Sid and I got so much stuff from the baby shower the wag’s threw me. Most of them have kids, so they knew what we would need. Except we need twice as much of everything. And everything is pink or blue.

My favorite thing we got was from Flower and Mrs. Flower: matching Penguins onesies (#87 of course).

Everyone wanted to know if we had picked names.

“We’ve narrowed it down to a couple of names, but my favorites are Zelda and Max. I don’t think Sid likes them that much.”

“Why doesn’t he like them?” Caeleigh asked.

“I don’t know why he doesn’t like Zelda, but I think he doesn’t like Max because of former Penguin Maxime Talbot,” I replied.

Mrs. Duper laughed, “Max was quiet a character. He’s a nice guy, but I can see why Sid wouldn’t want to name his son after him.”

“Do you have any family names you’re considering?” Mrs. Flower asked.

“There aren’t really any names that run in my family, but my dad’s name was Ted and he passed away a few years ago, so that name has been at the top of our lists.”

“Aww, that’s so sweet, you should definitely name him after his Grandpa,” Mrs. Kuni replied. “Is Ted short for Theodore or Edward?”

“Theodore, though we’d probably call Teddy,” I said, trying not to show how tired I was getting of answering their questions.

“Well I like the name Zelda, it’s spunky,” Mrs. Flower said with a smile, “But I think Sid’s too conservative for exciting names like that. I see him liking a boring name like Anne.”

I laughed, “That’s so true. Actually, he suggested Annie, which is close.”

“I like that, Annie Crosby? It sounds nice,” Mrs. Glass said smiling.

Hearing her say it out loud made it seem so real, like she was already here, and I could dress her up in all the cute outfits we’d gotten today.

“….Emme?” Caeleigh asked, and I realized everyone was staring at me. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, just tired, sorry what did you say?” I asked sitting up.

“You’re due date? It’s in July, right?” Caeleigh asked again.

“Yeah, July 10,” I replied, and tried to look attentive, but my mind was somewhere else.

I think they took the hint, and twenty minutes later they all left slowly, again congratulating me and offering to help with the twins.

Caeleigh stayed for a while to help me clean up and organized everything, but I fell asleep and she left soon after.

When Sid got home he was shocked at how much stuff we had gotten. He was going through everything, smiling, when I woke up.

“Is this from Flower?” He asked holding up one of the 87 Penguins onsies.

I laughed and sat down next to him, “Yes, aren’t they cute?” I asked holding up the matching booties.

“This is a lot of stuff,” He said, remarking the pile of clothes, toys, bottles, and accessories in our living room. “And we have to bring it all to Nova Scotia this summer, in a few weeks probably.”

“And then bring it back to Pittsburgh in the fall, except when we come back we’ll have these two with us,” I smiled and rubbed my stomach. “Which reminds me; I really like the name Annie now. I know I didn’t like it at first, but after hearing Tanner’s wife actually say it out loud I realized it was perfect.”

“I knew you would come around,” he smiled and hugged me. “Annie Zelda Crosby, that does sound nice.”

“Wait, you’re okay with Zelda for a middle name?” I asked pushing him. “I thought you hated it.”

“Maybe, we’ll see,” he smiled and ruffled my hair.

-

My mom wants me to come home when Maria and Cliff have their baby. It’s not for another week or so, but we’ll see. I’m not too keen on traveling right now, and Sid wouldn’t be able to come with me.

Apparently Maria wants to have a water birth. It sounds gross, because you’re basically giving birth in a big bathtub, but she said it’s one of the best forms of delivery, for the baby at least.

Maria has been kind of snobbish about my choice of getting a c-section. Both of my doctors have advised it, because I’m having twins. But she says I’m being posh, and I’ll miss out on the experience of giving birth.

I don’t know, I’m not sure I’d want to experience that. Maybe if I was in a better place in my life, like if I’d planned on having a baby, I would want to. But not with twins, even though they’re both healthy, and not while I’m trying to plan a wedding.

Our wedding planner is in Nova Scotia, so we’ve had to do most of the planning through email or over the phone, which is making it more complicated. We’ll have to finish most of it once we get there.

One thing I am looking forward to is cake testing.

I love cake.

Sincerely,

Emme

P.S.: God I want cake now. Like right now.

Dear Diary,

I have been talked into going home for a few days to see Cliff and Maria’s new baby, which should be arriving tomorrow. My mom said it’ll be ‘good practice’ for me, whatever that means.

Sid is driving me to the airport in an hour and I still need to pack, so I’ll write quickly.

Bridesmaids will wear yellow, and Caeleigh (as maid of honor) will wear yellow and green. She argued that green looks good with her hair color.

Bridesmaids are going to be: Maria, Ashlyn, Jess and Olivia from high school, my cousin Danielle, and I haven’t decided if I have stopped hating Carli enough to even think of asking her to be a bridesmaid.

Two flower girls: Baby Flower and Joey V’s daughter.

Sid had a hard time choosing groomsmen. He considered asking the whole team, just so no one would get left out. I have managed to get him to narrow it down to four: Duper, Kuni, Geno, and Tanger, who’s son is going to be the ring bearer (so cute!) and of course Flower is his best man, and the only non-Penguin is his friend Jack from school.

The rest of the team is invited and so far everyone is coming, even Brandon. I wasn’t sure if he would want to, but he RSVPed yes, with no +1.

So, we’ll see how that works out.

I need to pack now, Sid just got home.

Sincerely,

Emme

Dear Diary,

Water birth is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I only saw the last half hour, but it was so gross.

Their baby, however, was very cute. Once she got cleaned off. They decided to go with Burgundy for her first name, I was shocked. At least they didn’t try to steal one of my names. I am very set on Annie Zelda, even if Sid is unsure about Zelda. (He’ll come round to it, I know.)

Maria and Cliff for some reason thought Burgundy needed three middle names, so her full name is Burgundy Eleanor Summer Rose Saxon. That’s intense.

I have been dubbed Aunty Em (from the Wizard of Oz) though it’ll be a few years before she calls me that.

My mom has not stopped crying. She is so happy about Burgundy, the twins, and my wedding, and she kept saying how much she wished my dad was here to see it all.

“He can see it mom, he’s in heaven,” I smiled as I realized how cheesy that sounded, and then braced for another round of tears, but she stopped.

“Emme that’s so sweet that you want to name your son after him. He would be so happy,” she looked like she was going to cry again, but didn’t. “I can’t believe I’m having three grandchildren within a few months.”

“Well, maybe. If these are both mine,” I joked. (Obviously they’re mine) (Though it’s ironic. But I can’t tell her why).

She gave me a look, “Emme, what have you been getting in to,” she joked. “And you said Annie was Sid’s suggestion?”

“Yeah, and I didn’t like it at first, but now I love it. Annie Zelda Crosby.” I smiled just thinking about it.

“And does little Teddy have a middle name?” She asked.

“Um, I was thinking Sidney, after his daddy, but I know Sid won’t like that.” I paused. “I also like the name Brandon.” (I’m not sure Sid would agree to that either)

“That’s a nice name. You know, your father picked your middle name.”

“Really? I didn’t know that.” I was surprised, I thought my mom had picked both of our names.

“Yup, he thought Princess Diana was pretty hot, and this was before she died of course, but he told me it was because of our ‘British heritage’ or something,” she said rolling her eyes.

Oh, so that’s how I became Emmeline Diana Saxon (soon to be Crosby).

“I thought Saxon was British?”

“It is, but very distantly. But I liked the name, so I agreed.”

“Did he pick Cliff’s middle name too?”

“No,” she laughed, “I chose his name because I had a crush on a guy in high school named Robert, we called him Robby, but that’s where Clifford Robert came from.”

I giggled, I’d never heard my mom talk about anything like that.

I went to bed that night thinking about what my mom said about our middle names. The reasoning behind them seemed kind of trivial. I mean, that must have been some crush if my mom chose his name for my brother’s middle name. Or maybe it was more than a crush?

I don’t want to think about that, that’s weird.

Though I did just tell my mom that I wanted my sons middle name to be Brandon, (which is so not true, I don’t want to make Sid suspicious) (especially if he ended up looking like him, if he was his son, I mean.)

-

I spent the next two days with my mom visiting Cliff and Maria and baby Burgundy. Still not used to that name.

“What will you call her for short? Burg?” I joked with my brother, but Maria shot a stern look at me.

“We’re thinking of something like Gundy, perhaps,” she explained.

I looked back at Cliff and he shrugged.

Poor Gundy.

It wasn’t until I was holding her that I realized how cute and tiny babies were. She blinked at me with her big eyes, and made adorable cooing noises.

“I think she likes you,” Maria said.

“And you get to have two of those in July,” my mom said smiling, and looking like she was going to cry again.

She didn’t cry, but Burgundy did. And I got to learn how to change a diaper. yay. (not)
And later I got to learn how to bottle feed, and then Maria insisted she demonstrate how breast feeding worked (I wish I had not seen that) and then learned how to dress and bathe a baby.

Very useful things.

-

I head back to Pittsburgh tomorrow.

I’m so tired. Just thinking of having to take care of two babies is making me tired.

We’re not going to get much sleep once their born.

But I’m still very excited.

Sincerely,

Emme
