Olympic Break

Faith

Faith
She watched as Jeff slaved over the stove for her. He had a thin shirt that was tight over his shoulders. Every muscle was flexed as he tried to prevent burning their food. He let out a gasp as he moved around the bacon in the pan. She laughed. He looked over his shoulder with his famous grin. Faith’s heart fluttered.
“Don’t laugh at me when I’m making you food.” He whined.
“Sorry, you just look like an idiot when you cook.” She explained.
Jeff’s jaw dropped but his dimples were still out. Faith laughed, looking down. He looked at her, smiling before he shook his head. She continued to watch him as he finished. He placed a plate complete with all the breakfast works as well as his finished bacon.
She narrowed her eyes at him as she picked up her fork to try her food. He mocked her, narrowing his eyes with his smile still plastered on his face. She looked at her plate, stabbing some of the scrambled eggs on her plate. She lifted them to her mouth and chewed. She watched Jeff as she did so. Once she swallowed the food, she spoke.
"The eggs are good. I'm surprised." She admitted.
"Only the best for my favourite girl." He grinned.
She rolled her eyes, resisting the urge to blush. "You better hope none of your little girlfriends in each state hear you saying that to me." She pointed her fork at him before cutting off a piece of her waffle.
Jeff laughed out loud. "'Little girlfriends'? As if! You're the only girl for me, Faif."
She glared. "Do not call me that." She warned.
He smirked. "How's everything else?" He nodded at the food.
"It's alright, you're no Gordon Ramsey, buy it's good enough." Faith explained.
They chatted as they ate. Faith had been in Carolina for four days now. Her and Jeff had gone for breakfast every day since, but he begged her to let him cook for her today. She was weary of it, but let him since she couldn't say no to his face.
Faith offered to wash the dishes, but Jeff argued it. They settled on both doing it. Jeff kept taking things out of Faith's side of the sink to wash them. She'd splash him or glare. He'd just laugh and keep his damn smile on his face.
There was probably nothing more in this world that Faith loved than Jeff's smile. It hadn't changed since the day she met him and that was the main reason she had a crush on him since there were about fifteen, twelve in appearance.
Once the dishes were washed, they made their way into the living room. Every night, they'd lay on the couch together and watch the updates on the Olympics. She knew he was still upset he hadn't made it, but he wasn't as sad knowing he had friends and teammates to cheer on.
She was cuddled into his chest. He had an arm around her and played with the ends of her hair. If she was standing, she'd fall because him playing with her hair made her knees weak. She wrapped her arms around him tighter.
She knew the whole, 'fall for your best friend' thing was really cliché, but could you blame her? Have you ever seen Jeff Skinner, let alone met him? There was something entirely wrong with you if you didn't fall in love with the kid first thing, which might have explained why Faith felt this way about him. A good fifteen years of friendship would cause something like that to happen.
Faith always wondered if Jeff ever wondered what it'd be like to be with her. Everyone had that thought at some point about one of their opposite gender friends, right? She knew she had with all her friends. No, that was a lie. She'd only had Jeff on her mind since she was fifteen.
Sure, she dated other guys, but they always turned out to be douchebags, just like people, i.e. Jeff, had warned her. He never threw any 'I told you so's in her face though, he just comforted her. She wasn't sure Jeff knew how much she appreciate him.
She tilted her head back to look up at him. He looked down at her, smiling. He was always smiling, regardless of how he was feeling. He was a ball of sunshine. It was completely different than Faith's atmosphere. Keirstyn once told her that Jeff was 'the sun the came out after Faith, the storm, was finished'. It was the stupidest metaphor Faith had ever heard, but it made sense.
"I think we should go out and do something tomorrow. North Carolina's pretty fun." Jeff suggested.
"I like doing this. Just spending time with you." Faith argued.
"We can spend time together while we're out doing something too." He laughed.
She shook her head. "I can't lay on a couch if we're out doing something." She stated.
He rolled his eyes, still smiling. "When did you become so boring? I'm pretty sure I couldn't get you to stay in when we were in high school." He questioned.
"I got boring when you moved to Kitchener and I had no one to go to parties with." She explained.
"Keirstyn?"
"She's lame."
"But your best friend?" He cocked a brow.
"Second after you." She smiled up at him.
Jeff grinned. He pushed Faith up gently. He sat up and turned his body to face hers. She furrowed her brows in confusion. He just laughed.
"I don't think I understand what's going on." She told him.
He laughed. "Let me try something." He said, staring directly into her eyes.
"I don't trust it." She narrowed her eyes.
"Faith, just trust me." He breathed.
"Jeff, what,"
She was cut off by his lips pressing to hers. Her hands instantly tangled in his curls. His held onto her lower back, holding her close to him. The kiss deepened. Faith wouldn't admit it, but she'd been waiting for that kiss for way too long. They pulled apart.
"I've been waiting for that to happen for a long time." She whispered.
Okay, maybe she would admit it. Jeff just smiled, bring his lips back to his. They made out for a while. Neither were complaining though. Once they finally parted, both of them were panting like dogs.
"We should've done this a long time ago." He huffed.
"You're telling me." She nodded. "What brought that on?"
"I don't know. You just looked really cute smiling up at me." He shrugged. Faith rolled her eyes, her cheeks red. "And I'd been thinking about it since you offered to fly out." She laughed. "Embarrassing, yeah."
"That's not why I'm laughing." She shook her head. "I'm laughing because I've been thinking about kissing you since, I don't even know. For years though."
"How many years are we talking?" He waggled his eyebrows, grinning.
Faith thought back. She had a crush on Jeff since they were fifteen but that was just a crush. She had a crush on nearly every guy she knew back then. She remembered the exact moment she realized just how big of a crush she had on Jeff.
"Remember how I flew out to L.A for your draft day?" She asked. He smiled, nodding. "I remember your name got called and I sat beside Ben while he, your mom, your dad, and Erica, and Jill shot up. You just looked past Ben and gave me a little wink with your stupid smile. I was a goner from then on."
He rolled his eyes, smiling. He put his head in her lap. She absentmindedly played with his curls. She felt his eyes on her but ignored them. He reached up and grabbed her nose. She looked down at him with her eyebrows furrowed.
"What in the world are you doing that makes it necessary to hold my nose?" She asked.
"I just wanted your attention." He frowned.
She sighed. "What now?"
"What do you mean?" He cocked a brow.
"Are we, like, going to be an item or was this a one t,"
"It was not a one time thing. Stop it." He growled. She shrugged in defense. "Do I have to take you on a date or whatever before I can ask you to be my girl?"
"Do I feel like being an asshole and making you take me on a date first?" She tilted her head with a smirk.
"Faith, c'mon." He whined, sitting up.
"I guess a shit ton of years of friendship makes up for a date, but you have to ask me out in a really cute way." The same smirk stayed on her face.
"Are you expecting me to get down on one knee and ask you to be my girlfriend?" He glared.
"That's exactly what I was expecting! You know me so well." She replied.
"You're loving this, aren't you?" He hissed as he got on one knee.
"Just a little bit." She admitted, showing a bit of space between her thumb and finger.
Jeff grabbed her hands in his, resting them on her lap. Faith sat up straight, grinning at him. He rolled his eyes but was still smiling. He exhaled obnoxiously. That earned him an eye roll from Faith.
"Faith, will you please be my girlfriend?" He pouted.
Faith broke into laughter. She pulled her hands away to cover her face. Jeff groaned and grabbed her wrists, pulling them from her face. She was red from laughing and he was red from embarrassment.
"Answer me!" He begged.
"Obviously yes, you fucking tool!" She laughed. "I can't believe I actually got you to do that!"
"I'd do anything for you." He smiled before kissing her.
