No Sense of Direction 056:

Chapter Fifty Six

"What do you think?" I asked as Tyler sighed and handed the phone back to me.

"He's drunk Kat, don't pay any attention to him," Tyler said and I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair, "Kat, you're not seriously thinking about going to see him!"

"What? No, no, but-"

"No buts Katrina! It's a bad idea, don't go to see him," Tyler said and I looked out the window to see that Dana was putting the horses in the field.

"I know it is Ty, but I need to know if he's all right."

"They come here next week, you can see him then," Tyler said and then placed his hand on my shoulder, "At a safe distance, you and Crosby are already on shaky grounds."

"We're not on shaky grounds!"

"Then why haven't I seen him around lately? Ever since you guys came back from your week long away trip, the two of you have been different."

"He's taking his injury hard," I said and Tyler sighed.

"I know the feeling."

"He just needs to know that I'm here," I said and Tyler smiled and patted my knee.

"It'll be all right, Kat."

"How's your arm anyways?"

"It's better, I was able to move my wrist with no pain."

"That's good," I smiled and then stood up and ruffled his hair, "I'll talk to you later."

"Where are you going?"

"To change into something warmer and then to go for a ride," I said as I headed up the stairs.

I had changed into warmer clothes and then walked outside and towards the stables. When I opened the door, Dana was walking out of the office, "Oh, Kat, hey, I was just about to head-"

"You wanna go for a ride?" I asked and she looked a little surprised, but then agreed.

I saddled Balto up while Dana saddled up Snowflake. It was the middle of winter, and it was cold out. The ground had a fresh coat of snow and the some of the horses seemed to like it, Blaze, not so much, he didn't like to be out in the coat, actually broke the fence one time and we found him in his stall.

"So how are you feeling about Milan?" Dana asked as we started to take the path into the woods.

"I'm nervous, it's been a few months since I've seen him," I said and Dana nodded her head.

"Has he tried to call you again?"

"No, not since that night," I said and she sighed.

"You know you need to stay away from him Kat, he's bad news."

"I guess."

"No, not 'I guess', say I will," Dana said and I looked back to see that she had stopped her horse, "Katrina, he might be hot and have a nice body, and the sex might be good, but he used you."

"And I used him!"

"Really?" Dana asked not believing me.

"I-I don't know," I sighed and turned Balto's head and started to walk again.

"Stay away from him and you won't have to worry about your feelings for him."

"I know," I said and then sighed, "Will you come to the game?"

"What?"

"Please, I need you."

"Um, all right."

"Thank you Dana, you can sit with Vero up in the family suite."

-Sidney-

"Sid."

"Yeah," I turned around to see Tomas Vokoun walking over towards me.

"You all right?"

"I'm fine."

"You and Kat good?"

"Yeah, we're fine, I'm just- I'm just not taking this whole 'broken jaw' thing well," I said and Tomas nodded his head.

"Understandable, but you shouldn't take it out on Kat, she's just trying to help," he said and I looked at him.

"Has she talked to you?"

"No, why?"

"Oh, I've been acting like an ass towards her," I said and he smirked.

"She didn't need to tell me, I've known her for a few years," he said and I nodded my head, "We play bruins Friday, you better keep an eye on her."

"I'll be too busy watching Lucic."

"Well, him too," Tomas said and then patted my shoulder, "Take care Sid."

"You too," I said and then walked down the hallway towards Kat's office to here talking.

I opened the door to see that Kat was sitting on the table and Geno was leaning against the counters and they were talking in Russian. I knocked on the door and they both looked over towards me and Geno looked back towards Kat and said something in Russian.

"Uh, see ya Sid," Geno said and then walked out of the room.

"Yeah ok," I said and then watched as Geno went back into the locker room, "Everything all right?"

"Sid," Kat said and then sighed and I looked back towards her.

"Uh oh."

"You might want to sit down," she said and I looked at her strangely and walked over towards her, sitting up on the table next to her, "You see-"

"Before you say anything, I want to apologize for acting like an ass to you," I said and she looked at me and gave me a sad smile.

"It's all right, I know you were just upset about your injury."

"That's no reason to take my frustration out on you," I said and Kat kissed my cheek. She sighed and then handed my her phone and I looked at her confused.

"Listen to the third one," she said and I nodded my head, hit the third voicemail message and placed the phone to my ear.

"Kat!" there was so much noise in the background, "I love you so much Kat!" the words were slurred, someone was bombed, "I miss you! I'm sorry for being a dick!" more noise and it sounded like he dropped his phone, "I love you Kat!"

"Who is this?" I asked and then looked at the contact number to see that it was 'Don't Answer', "Is this Lucic?"

"Yeah, listen to the next one," she said and I looked at her.

"How many times has he called you?!"

"Three, I never answered them, or called him back," she said and then looked at me, "The messages get more begging and then the last one he's trying to talk and his teammates are telling him to leave me alone."

"At least some of the Bruins are thinking straight."

"Sid, I know he's going to try and come up to me at the game! Dana's gunna come with me and make sure I don't do anything stupid."

"Stupid? What would you do?"

"Talk to him, get myself in trouble by talking to him," she breathed and then shook her head.

"You still care about him don't you?"

"No- Yes- I don't know!" she sighed and then placed her hands over her face and shook her head, "I'm such an idiot, I know that! I don't know why I still have feelings for him! I haven't seen or heard from him in months and I was fine, but then all of a sudden he calls and I get these feelings again."

"You need to figure out where you stand!" I muttered as I hopped off of the table and headed for the door, placing her phone on the table.

"Come on Sid, don't be like that! I left him for YOU! Don't you remember that? I broke of the engagement for YOU!" she said and I looked over towards her as I opened the door.

"How 'bout you remember that when you run into him," I said and then walked out of the room.
