When the Night Finds the Morning

What Have I Gotten Myself Into?

Rushing around her bedroom Keltie got ready for her shift at work. She grabbed her pair of cowboy boots and lend against the tall wooden dresser as she put her right foot into her boot. As she grabbed her left boot by the holes that were on the top of the brown leather boot, there was a knock on her bedroom.

"Come on in."

She hollered as she pushed her left foot in. The door opened and closed and Keltie looked over to see Jamie standing against the closed door looking at her.

"You heading out?"

Jamie asked as he looked her up and down. His brown eyes went from her feet to her face. He finally ripped his eyes away from her body and just looked around her room a bit.

It wasn't big. Most of the room was taken up by the queen size bed that rested against the wall that had a window looking out to the road. The blankets on the bed were the most random assortment of fabrics he'd ever seen. The red blanket that Jamie knew from their childhood, it was a blanket that her Nana had made for her on the day that she was born, it was crazy to think that she still had it after almost 25 years. Then there were a few blue and green Canucks blanket, and finally one that Jamie wasn't too sure what was on it, most of it was light sky blue and a big brown blob. The down comforter was white with green lefts that were spaced out around the fabric. The three pillows were just light off brown and bunched in the corner of the bed that met with the corner of the two walls. The walls of her room had a few picture frames from when she went to Maui when she was 11, from what he remembered that was the worst vacation she had ever been on, and she hadn't gone to any tropical place on the map, that he knew of, since then. Two calendars were on the wall, a Canucks 2013-14 season team calendar and one that looked to be from Costco and had pictures of her little baby sister Lucy. In a spot by the end of her bed there were clothes just lying on the light hard wood floor. There were three big poster of the Seattle Thunderbirds from two seasons ago and a Canucks poster of Rick Rypien. The poster that caught Jamie's eye was a black, yellow, and green poster. In big letters at the top in said 'Dallas Stars', then more towards the middle had his name and number. The picture was of himself in his rookie season with the Stars.

"Love the poster."

Keltie looked to the wall that was between her two separate closets, seeing Jamie's rookie poster.

"Yeah. I have been meaning to throw that out."

She teased Jamie. She then turned to look for her keys on top of her dresser.

"I have to work late, until closing. I'll be back pretty late."

She told Jamie, he listened but almost all of his attention was on Keltie's body again. She had flattened out her dark blonde hair, it went to the middle of her back, the longest Jamie has ever seen on her. Then her shirt was a tight black v-neck long sleeved shirt. Keltie had put her toned legs into a pair of dark denim skinny jeans that made her legs look long. For a girl who was only five foot 2 and a half, it was a good look she could pull off. However when Jamie saw the footwear she had chosen he had to let out a chuckle. Hearing the chuckle from Jamie, Keltie looked over at him, thinking to see his phone in his hands, but he was just looking at her.

"What is so funny about me?"

"Nothing. Other than your shoe choice."

Quickly looking down at her feet then back at Jamie she let out a shof.

"I happen to like them, and for a fact they are the most comfortable shoes I own. Plus aren't you like, an honorary Texan?"

"I wouldn't go that far sweetheart. I get it. You just wanna fit in with the in crowd and be a hipster."

"Excuse me? Chubby did you just call me a hipster?"

"What do you have a pair of 'glasses'?"

Jamie asked with a playful smile on his face as he made the air quotes around the word glasses. Keltie let out a hurt cry and placed her hand over her heart.

"You, Chubbs, are rude."

"Whatever you say,"

Jamie said then walked infront of her, so that her back was to the dresser.

"hipster."

He said with a devilish smirk. Kelite went to hit him, but Jamie grabbed onto her hand before any damage could be inflicted on him. Jamie knew what Keltie's next move was and he was ready for it. He saw her right leg was going to move.

"Predicable Kells,"

He shifted his body weight and pushed her into the dresser. Kelite was caught off guard and let out a gasp as Jamie did so. Jamie smiled down at Keltie and saw that her boobs were now pressed up against his chest and now he could get a look down her shirt.

"so predictable."

"Jamie, give me back-"

Keltie begun as she tried to fight against the brick wall that was now up against her body, she looked up at Jamie's face and realized that it was a mistake.

"Or what Kells?"

He asked looking at her face. When he looked down he saw that she was looking up at him with her deep blue eyes that reminded him of the ocean just down the street from where they stood.

"Jamie I-"

"Kells! You gotta go!"

Her dad's voice boomed from the other side of the door and somewhere deep into the house. Hearing her dad's voice, Keltie looked away from Jamie's big brown puppy dog eyes.

"Can I have my hand back?"

She asked in a small voice, still not looking at the brown eyes that were searching from her beautiful blue eyes.

"Um, yeah."

Jamie said with disappointment and awkwardness in his voice. He took a few steps back and Keltie turned around and grabbed her keys and phone off the dresser and hurried out of her room. Jamie stood there in her bedroom as he heard the click of her boots on the hardwood walk off down the hall, knowing that she never once looked back. When he finally snapped out of his funk, Jamie walked out of the room and turned the light off and shut the door behind him. He rested against the white wooden door and let out a sigh, closing his eyes he cursed him name as he lightly hit his head on the door.

"Damnit Benn."

He said to no one but himself. After a few more moments he brought himself off the door and hopes to find Kelite hadn't left yet for work. Walking down the hallway he found himself in the walkway of the dining room to the living room.

Looking to the right, into the dinning area, he saw Keltie giving her dad a kiss on top of the head. As she walked away from her dad, who was sitting at the high dinning room table with his laptop open in front of him, her little brother came running in from the sun room and hugged her legs.

"Bye Kelly."

He told her and she reached down and ruffled his light blonde hair.

"Love you kiddo."

Henrik laughed and then let go of her and ran back to the sun room and to his Legos that where on the floor.

After Keltie walked a few more steps she got down to the floor and called to the house,

"Where is my baby?!"

Jamie looked at her like she was crazy. Then he heard the sound of dog nails on hard wood flooring running. He looked back at the hallway and saw a black and white dog run past him and to Keltie. The dog got right up into Keltie's face and started licking her face. She laughed and brought both of her hands to the side of the dog's face and looked at him straight in the eye.

"I'm going to miss you baby. I love you, yes I do."

She told the happy dog as she gave him kisses on his snout. She stood back up and looked over at Jamie and saw the look he was giving her and her dog. Keltie walked over to Jamie and the dog went over to the dining room table and found a spot underneath the table.

"Andrea says that dinner is a few minutes away."

Keltie told Jamie went she stood in front of him. He just merely nodded and looked down at their feet and couldn't help but crack a smile at her boots again.

"You should stop by."

"Yeah,"

Jamie said ripping his gaze from the shoes to her blue eyes.

"I'll come down after dinner. It's just down at the marina?"

"Yeah. If you get lost I'll dub you the biggest dumb ass ever."

Just as the r rolled off her tongue, her step mother's voice called from the kitchen that dinner was ready.

"That's my cue."

Keltie said giving Jamie a quick hig then she hurried over to the door.

"Do I get a goodbye kiss?"

Jamie joked as he pointed over to her dog. Keltie rolled her eyes and and stopped herself from exiting out the front door.

"You can get some loving when you keep me warm in bed at night. Bye Jamie."

She said with a wink, with that she walked out the door and closed the door behind her.

Jamie let out a quilet groan at the thought of her in bed needing warmth.

"Jamie, dinner."

Henrik said from the kitchen. Jamie turned around and walked into the kitchen and dished himself his dinner plate. When Jamie got to the dining table there was only one spot open, next to Henrik and straight across from Keltie's dad. Hank looked up at Jamie with the same wide eyes that he had when they first met, and patted the chair next to him. Jamie smiled and sat down next to the five year old.

As Jamie started to cut into the piece of salmon on his plate he felt a pair of eyes on him, he looked to see Hank still looking at him.

"Can I ask you some questions?"

He asked and Jamie had to chuckle at the little boy.

"You can. It's fine."

Hank looked like a huge weight from his shoulders had been lifted.

"So what do you think about Kesler possibly being traded?"

Jamie contributed to cut more piece of his fish off as he thought about an answer.

"Well, I've only met him a few times, but I know that he wants to win. I know that y'all are loyal Canucks fan in this house, but he wants to win, and it looks like Vancouver has some way to go fro that. I can't say what I think because I feel that I know about as much as you do."

Hank nodded and stuffed his face with a fork full of bactocill. Jamie then lifted the his fork full of salmon to his mouth and took his first bit. Instally his taste buds fell in love. It took everything to not have his food fly out of his mouth in a groan of pure food bliss.

"This is amazing."

"Thank you. It's a salmon that Kells caught last summer, isn't that right Ken?"

Her husband nodded and took another bite of his own food.

"Well, this amazing. I really miss good food like this in Dallas. Sure, it has the fancy steak houses, but nothing can beat this. Fresh salmon. You can't order anything like this anywhere in Dallas."

Andrea let out a slight laugh and took another sip of her red wine then looked back over at Jamie.

"So, how is it playing in the NHL? Especially with Jordan on the same team."

"It's great. I've really come to find a home in Dallas."

"I would guess so, with being named captain."

Henrik said piping into the conversation. Jamie let a smile and a chuckle come from him.

"For sure. With Jordie coming in and playing with the team it made things seem more like home. I mean Jordie can't cook a home cook favorite like our mom, but he's just the piece of home I can count on in Dallas."

That's how the rest of dinner went, talking about about how life was in Dallas and Henrik asking more questions about hockey.

Jamie stood in the kitchen with a stack of plates in his hands and Andrea was putting the leftovers into snapware.

"Do you want some help cleaning up?"

Jamie asked placing the plates next to the sink.

"No. It's fine. Go in and watch the game with the other boys."

Jamie nodded and Andrea thanked him for what he had done to help before he walked to the living room of the one story house. Andrea was right, the rest of the house was watching a hockey game on the TV. It was the Colorado Avalanche versus the Anaheim Ducks, it was four minutes into the first period and it was scoreless across the board.

Jamie sat down on the sofa and pulled his phone out of his jeans pocket. He had only one text and it was from Tyler:

Tyler Seguin: Her dad kill you yet?

Jamie rolled his eyes and quickly texted his linemate back.

Jamie Benn: No. Go to bed you freak.

He looked up at the clock on the top of the screen of his iPhone, it was 10:07, which meant that back home in Dallas it was seven minutes past midnight. When the text was sent off Jamie stuffed his phone back in his pocket, then stood up.

"I'm going to go visit Keltie."

"You know where to go?"

Ken asked, looking away from the the live game to the NHLer in his living room.

"I think so. It's just down the hill at the marina?"

"Yeah. I'd walk, it's only a few minutes."

Jamie nodded and Ken looked back the TV to the game. Jamie walked out of the living room and to the front door. Andrea called goodbye from the kitchen and Jamie waved goodbye to her. Then he left the house and walked down the walkway towards the driveway. Walking in the cool February air made a smile form on his face. As he walked Jamie put his hands in his sweatshirt pocket and he crossed the street and headed down the road towards the island highway, and just beyond that was the marina. This was another thing he missed about home here on the island, the weather. The weather in Dallas was nice at times but it was nothing like the weather he was raised in.

He stood a stop light and he press the large silver button and waited to cross the street. As he stood there he went though his mental check list.

-Get Keltie to come to Sochi with me.

Check.

-Gold medal.

That was coming. He had a feeling in his bones that was going to be checked off with a golden check mark.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Kells, just one date, please. That's all I'm asking."

Kelite rolled her eyes at the drunken bar partition, Sully. He was a regular and he worked on one of the many fishing boats here. Whenever him and his crewmates would come in for a drink he would bag her to go out with him. Tonight was one of the more intense drunk Sully nights.

"That's all you ever ask, Sully. And I'm busy, sorry. Maybe another time?"

"Well, that's all you ever say Kelly baby."

Another eye roll came from her. She just continued to take the empty beer bottle from the table and placed on the tray that rested on her hip.

"When are you going to get it, Sully?"

She asked when she grabbed the last bottle and looked straight at the drunken young fishman.

"What Kells? That I will never give up on you?"

"No. That when a woman says later, what she really means is never."

Sully's bullies all said something around the lines of burn and broke out into giggles, like a couple of school girls.

"Plus, you're a Flames fan."

With that, Keltie walked away from the table with the tray on her hip. When she got to the bar she placed the tray on the bar and let out an annoyed groan.

"Sully again?"

Ivan, the other bartender that was on hand, said when he walked up to her and helped her take the beer bottles off the tray. Keltie stopped and looked up at one of the three TVs that hung above the bar, the Avalanche and Ducks was playing on the screen above her and she was intraced in the game that was thousands of miles away from her.

"Yeah, I'm going to stick it to him one of these days. My baby score yet?"

"Yeah and MacKinnon got the assist."

"No. My other baby."

"Who? A Duck? Please, don't tell me it's Perry."

"Oh God no. Perry, is just,ew. Gross, don't get me think about that."

Keltie said with a shutter at the thought. Perry was one of her least favorite player in the whole league. He just grossed her out on so many levels.

"Who is it than?"

"Who else? Teemu."

"Selanne? Are you serious?"

"Dead serious. One, he's a bomb ass player and he's in his 40's, two he's fine as fucking hell."

Keltie said with a dreamy look in her eye as she looked up at screen. At the same time on the screen went to Teemu, who was standing at the bench with his helmet off and spraying water all over his face.

"Oh God. So what is with I hear about you going to the Olympics with Jamie Benn?"

Ivan asked wanting to change the subject from her weird crush on a 43 year old Finnish hockey God.

"I grew up with him and he just showed up today and asked me to go."

Ivan let out a long whistle. Keltie looked over at him with a confused look on her face.

"Damn. He's gotta have a huge crush on you then?"

"What? Jamie? No way."

"Do you?"

Ivan asked raising his eyebrows at her with a questionable look on his face as he looked at his co-worker.

"On Jamie? A crush?"

Keltie started to make 'piff' noises and looked at Ivan with a guilty look in her eyes. Ivan still gave her the look and she caved.

"He's just so, ugh, I don't know. He's always been a sweet guy to me, but now. God, now it's a whole new level. I've always thought he was adorable, but now, he's sexy as hell. Plus, he's become even more of a sweetheart, it's just so not fair! He's this amazing guy and I can't be with him ever because we've been friends since we shit in diapers! Diapers! Do you know how long it's been since I shit my own pants?"

Ivan let out a laugh and smiled at her. The same dreamy look in her eye was there when she talked about Jamie, just like when she was talking about Teemu. The door of the bar opened and Ivan saw who came in.

"Don't look now, but here comes your partner in shit their pants."

Keltie whipped around and saw Jamie looking around the semi-packed bar for her. She stood up on her tiptoes and waved to him. He saw he and smiled, ever this far away from him Keltie could see the dimples that made her knees go weak.

What have I gotten myself into?

She asked herself as Jamie walked towards her.
