Katie’s POV (cont)

I left the bathroom and walked down the stairs into the kitchen.

“You okay?” Brittany asks.

“Yeah, sorry it took me a while, I was just waiting for my shirt to dry” trying to seem normal. My heart rate must have been through the roof.

“You got it all out! I don’t see anything on your white shirt” She says with a smile.

“Thank you for letting me use your bathroom upstairs.”

“Anytime hun!”

I look around the room for Reilly but he is no where to be found. I look where he was previously sitting and only Jess was there. Sitting by herself, not talking to anyone. I had my eyes on her like a hawk. A few minutes later, Reilly comes and sits next to her. I wasn’t going to say anything just yet. I waited a few minutes. I sat done near the table and could barely sit still. My leg was shaking like crazy.

“Hey babe! There you are!” Adam says as he sits next to me, giving me a soft peck on the lips.

“Hey! Sorry, I got some red wine on my shirt and I went to the bathroom for a little bit to get the stain out.”

He noticed that something was up.

“Are you okay?”

I had to tell him.

“Come here” as I pull him aside where no one could hear us.

“Ok, so I went to the bathroom upstairs to clean my shirt and I hear someone come upstairs and it was Jess. She was talking on the phone with her friend or whatever and long story short, she is carrying this kid Kevin’s child and not Reilly’s. She’s only said it was Reilly’s because the baby’s life would be set. She’s taking advantage of him because he was shitfaced that night and that’s why he feels guilty.” I was beginning to shake

“Are you fucking kidding me?!” He says, his face shocked.

“Nope! I’m trying to get Reilly alone for a second and tell him as nicely as I can.”

“I’ll try to distract her for a little bit”

“I love you!” as I give him a kiss.

“Love you too Sherlock Holmes”

“Shut up! That’s exactly what Emma called me a while ago...” as I punch his arm.

“Haha! Have you told her yet?”

“No, not yet. I want to tell Reilly first.”

“Ok, let’s go!”

We both start heading towards the couch and sit down.

“Hey guys!” Adam says.

I wish I could pretend to be calm. She had her eyes pierced on me the whole time, and so where mine. After a few minutes, I try to get Reilly’s attention, signaling him to get up.

“I’m gonna go get some food, want anything Adam?” I ask.

“No babe, I’m good for now!” he says.

“Reilly?”

“I’ll come up with you, want anything Jess?”

“No, I’m not hungry.” with an attitude.

“Alrightly then.” he says and we walk to the table. There were so many people there that once we got up, we couldn’t see Jess or Adam.

“Can I talk to you for a sec, its kind of important” trying to keep calm.

“Yeah, sure. Let’s go outside.”

We head outside. As soon as we are alone, the first thing he says is,

“Is Emma alright?”

Aw, I knew he loved her. It put a smile on my face. Okay focus.

“Yeah, Emma is fine, its about Jess.”

He looked confused.

“What about Jess?”

“How can I put this...”

“What’s going on here? I thought you guys were getting food?” Jess said as she came between me and Reilly.

“Oh my god!” I say as I roll me eyes.

Why are you here?! Can’t she give us 5 minutes alone!

“Do you mind? I’m in a middle of something here...go inside?” Reilly said, annoyed.

She was not moving. Her arms were crossed in front of her like a stubborn child.

“You know what, I’m glad she’s here because I rather her tell you than me.”

Jess was taken back. She was not expecting this at all.

“What are you talking about?” You could tell she was getting nervous.

“Tell Reilly the truth or I will...” I warn her.

“About what?! You’re crazy, don’t listen to her Reilly” She grabs Reilly’s arm.

“Wait, what is going on?! What do you have to tell me?” as he faces Jess.

“Nothing, she is just making up shit.”

“Last chance Jess, tell me” giving her a warning.

She looked like a deer in headlights.

This is ridiculous. A few moments pass by.

“Will someone please tell me what the hell is going on here?!”

“Jesus Christ. She isn’t carrying your child Reilly.” I blurred it out.

Reilly just stood there, speechless.

“What?” I felt horrible to just putting it out there but someone had to do it. She wasn’t going to say anything.

“It’s not true Reilly, she’s lying. Don’t you see?! She want to get rid of me so her precious friend can be with you! This was her plan from the beginning!”

“Oh shut up! You’re full of shit, you know that! Dragging him along, making him feel guilty for what he had done, while you were sleeping around with his friends!”

“You little bitch! You’ve been listening to my conversations?! Besides, he deserves to be with me, not that slutty friend of yours.”

“Emma, a slut? HA! You’re one to talk!”

“Okay stop! Tell me everything Jess. I swear to God...this is your last chance.” Reilly said.

I had never seen him that angry before. I felt so bad for him.

She started bawling her eyes out! She was waiting for Reilly to comfort her and that was not happening. He just stood there, his eyes pierced on hers...waiting.

“The day you came up to Sean’s house, everyone decided to get super drunk. I didn’t drink as much as everyone else. You assumed that you slept with me because that’s what I made you think. We never had sex Reilly.”

“You have lied to me this whole time? You made me feel horrible for what I had done to you. What is wrong with you? Whose kid is it?”

She puts her head down “Kevin’s” she whispers.

“Kevin’s?! My best friend from home?!”

“I’m sorry!”

“This is fucked up! You better leave by tomorrow morning or else I’m going to throw out all of your shit from my apartment, understand?”

“Reilly, please! You can’t just throw me out. I have no where to go.” She put her face in her hands.

“Well you better figure it out, because I’m done.” he says slowly and walks away.

“I hope you are fucking happy!” she says as she walks up to me. I had moved aside while they were talking.

“Yes, I am happy! I’m happy he knows that truth and not living the rest of his life in your stupid fat lie. You could have ruined his only chance of happiness. You’re so selfish...” I said as I shook my head.

“And you’re a bitch!”

“No, I’m a good friend Jess. That’s what friends do for one another, they protect one another. Just go home...” I was so done debating with her.

I walk away, trying to look for Reilly. I find him seating on the other side of the parking lot.

“Hey, are you okay?” as I walk up to him.

He shakes his head “No, but I will be. Thank you.” He stands up.

“You’re welcome” I give him a hug. “If you need anything I’m here, okay?”

Poor kid. I let him be.

I walk into the house and meet Adam.

“Come here.” as he pulls me into a hug.

“I hated doing that because I felt bad for her afterwards but what she did was wrong”

“I know it sucks but you didn’t do anything wrong. Reilly deserved to know.” he kisses my forehead.

A few hours later

"Are you coming?!" I text Emma around 9:30 pm

"Just got into the car, be there in 20 min." She quickly texted back.

Emma texted me asking where she should park and I couldn’t tell her here.

"Wait right there, I'll come right down."

"Okay"

I speedwalk and get in the car.

"Let's go for a ride real quick! We need to talk" I said trying to catch my breath.

"Is everything okay? Is Reilly okay?"

I smiled, he had asked me “Is Emma alright?” when I pulled him aside earlier as well. They were too cute together.

"Just drive please!”

“Ok! Calm down.” Emma said as she pulled into the street.

“But OH MY GOD! You aren't going to believe what I just found out! Holy shit!"

"Feels like I'm driving the getaway car! You're freaking me out! Spill!"

"Ok! Ok!" She begins after I take a deep breath and told her the whole story.

Emma’s POV(present)

“Oh my god” was all I could say as I parked on the side of the road.

“Yeah. I still can’t believe it”

“Poor Reilly, have you seen him?”

I felt so bad, he had been through so much and he did not deserve this. Who would do this? Who would take advantage of someone like that? It made no sense to me. All I wanted to do was talk to him, be there for him but I couldn’t, not right away. It would look like, hey since you aren’t going to be a father, I’ll just come back into your life and pretend the last 2 months didn’t happen. Let’s start off where we left off. No, that’s not how it works. I’m glad he wasn’t going to be a father to Jess’s child but at the same time, you can’t ignore everything that he went through. Everything happened so fast for him, realizing he was going to be a father, learning to accept it, and then excited to become a father and to have that taken away from him so instantly, it must be so hard to process.

“I saw him after everything happened. He just sat on the other side of the parking lot, just thinking. He thanked me for what I had done, for telling him the truth and that was it. I told him if he needed anything to just call/text and he said okay”

“Should I call him?” I ask unsurely.

“I think you should leave him be for a little bit then call him.” Katie says.

“Yeah...”

“Why don’t we go back to the party and if he is there, you can talk to him?”

“Okay, that works.”

I park on the road and walk to the house. As soon as we approach the lawn, I see his car pull out of the driveway and drive off. Great.

“Damn it.” Katie says disappointed.

“It’s okay, I’ll try calling later”

All I wanted to do is just hold him in my arms, comfort him.

“There you are!” Adam says as we walk into the house.

“You just missed Reilly, he just took off” he says looking at me.

“I know, we saw him leave as we walked in. Did he say anything babe? How was he holding up?” Katie asked.

“He was a little upset, but he said he needed to be alone and left.”

Please don’t do anything stupid.

We did not stay that long afterwards. People were starting to leave and we headed out as well. I thanked Brittany and Milan for having us and promised next time I’d take the day off.

Katie decides to come in the car with me rather than Adam. We say goodbye to him and head for the road.

“How are you holding up?” she asks me.

“I’m okay. I just feel so bad for him. I mean I’m happy it is not his, but I feel bad for leaving him alone at a time like this you know. I should have been there for him, helped him through this but I only made things worse by leaving him.”

“Please don’t blame yourself. You did the right thing. You needed to give him space to figure stuff out and that’s what you did. I’m a strong believer of things happen for a reason and this just shows that you guys are meant to be together. Even if the kid was his, someway or another you would still have ended up together.” Katie says as she rubs my shoulder.

I give her a smile.

“Can I tell you something. I though it was precious that when I pulled him aside and told him we needed to talk, the first thing that came out of his mouth was ‘Is Emma alright?’ and when I came into your car, you asked “Is Reilly okay?’ I can’t with you two! Please just get married already.” She says with a big smile on her face.

“Katie!” I look at her with a shocked face, followed by a laugh.

“Hey! I’m just saying!”

“You’re ridiculous, but thank you for everything and well done Sherlock Holmes!” as I started laughing.

“Told you I’d find a way! Adam called me that too today when I told him” she started laughing.

“Great minds think alike!”

We finally get home. I headed straight for bed because I was exhausted. I decided to text Reilly before falling asleep.

‘Hey Reilly. If you need someone to talk to, just know that I’m a phone call away. Please don’t hesitate to call.
