The Road Back to Your Heart

Game 2: Hurricanes Blow out the Oilers

Gabi sat with her family at RBC Center once again for Game 2, this time she wasn't in an Eric Staal jersey. Her family had let her decide what she wanted to wear and she chose to wear a Rod Brind'Amour jersey not that she hadn't thought about wearing a number 12 jersey but the choice was clear to her. Gabi was going to sport Brind'Amour tonight, mainly because Rod had been one of her favorite players since she was a little girl. Growing up, the boys made her watch a lot of hockey, not that she really complained, she loved the game. She loved the passion that players showed as they chased the puck down the ice, the fights that sometimes occurred. Gabi loved hockey and she blamed that fact on the blonde currently getting ready for the one of the biggest games of his career.

"A penny for you thought?" Jordan said as he nudged her.

Gabi smiled, "Just thinking about the good old days. When all we cared about was watching our favorite players take the ice. It seems like so long ago. I missed those days. The days of chasing fire flies and pond hockey but now Eric could be on his way to winning a Stanley Cup. You are being drafted and Marc is already drafted. I can't believe how much time has passed."

"That's life," He said with a shrug. "Mom always told us to enjoy every moment because it was going to be gone before the blink of an eye."

Gabi chuckled, "And I remember none of us really understood what she meant at that time. There are times that I wish I could go back to when we were kids and pay more attention to the little things."

"Me too," Jordan sighed. "And change some decisions I made."

Gabi nodded. She knew what he meant but now wasn't the time to bring it up. Now was the time to watch Game 2. The game was fast paced, just like how Gabi liked it. Andrew Ladd scored first to put the Hurricanes up 1-0 at the end of the first. In the second period Kaberle scored, then Stillman and the Canes were up 3-0 going into the third. Gabi couldn't believe the fire that the Canes were playing with ti was crazy. Cam had stopped every shot that he had faced in the two periods and was one period away from a shout out. She could see that Kody was anxious and she rubbed her back. It wasn't easy to be the significant other of a hockey player, especially during a big game. The boys came out for the third with just as much fire as they had in the first and second. Cam kept coming up with big saves and the boys added two more goals from Weight and Recchi, winning the game 5-0. Cam stopped all 25 shots he faced which earned him first star of the game. Gabi smiled, the boys were heading to Edmonton with a two game lead and Eric was two games away from sealing their deal. Pride swelled inside of her, the boy she grew up with was two games away from being a Stanley Cup champion but she couldn't and wouldn't count the Oilers out just yet, they were going home and who knows what could happen on the road.
