Come Closer

I was so stunned, that I didn’t say anything to her before she got into her car. It was like I was frozen.

I knocked on the door of the house and Brandon answered seconds later.

“Meghan…” he said looking at me stunned. “What are you doing here?”

“Well…James and I got into a fight so I came over to talk to her, but obviously something was wrong with her, what happened?” I lied, wanting to hear what Brandon said to her.

“Come in.” Brandon said motioning me to come in. “I told her, I couldn’t keep it from her anymore.” Starting to sound upset.

“What did you say to her?” I said sitting on the couch in the living room.

“I just told her that when you came into town for the first time with the volleyball team I got super drunk and made out with one of the players.” He said sitting down next to me. “She started yelling at me…which I deserved. Then she went upstairs and packed up some of her stuff and left.” His head was down and resting his elbows on his knees.

“I guess we both got into arguments today.” I said.

“What happened with you and James.” He said looking up at me.

“I had a doctor appointment today and I was informed that the chances of me having a baby are very slim.” I said, bringing back the start of the argument. “He was talking to his mom and she thinks that we should start the IVF treatments, but I’m not ready to have a baby yet and James wants to have kids sooner than later because we are getting older and the older you are the more difficult it will become to get pregnant.” I told him. “We got into a fight about it and I told him that I needed to go and clear my head so I left.”

“It has been a rough night for both of us I guess.” He said, looking at me. “What am I going to do, I love her so much. And being unfaithful is the worst thing I could do.”

“I think you should give her time to cool down, go to practice tomorrow and talk to her after that.”

“What do you think that I should do about James?” I asked him.

“Maybe you should go and see the doctor and see what your options are, then just go from there.” He said. “You and James are perfect for each other and you can’t let something like this ruin your relationship.”

Brandon and I talked not only about our relationships and our lives. I left the house after about 2 hours and made the decision what we should look into and possibly start fertility treatments.

I walked into the house and saw him on the couch drinking a beer, he saw me and immediately put the drink down and came over to me.

“Babe I’m sorry about earlier, if you’re not ready for this then neither am I.” he said.

“Actually I have done some serious thinking and I think that we should go and see the specialist, how awesome would it be for our own child to be at our wedding.” I said pulling him close to me. “Let’s do this.” I smiled at him.

“What about your wedding dress?” he asked.

“I’m sure we will make something work, the people at the store were so good and they can modify the dress for a pregnant lady if they have to.”

“I fucken love you.” He said pulling me in for a kiss.

“But something did happen tonight that is horrible and I thought would never happen.” I told him going over to the couch and cuddling up into his arms.

“What?”

“I was going over to see Giselle, just to have a little girl time.”

“Ok, what’s so bad about that?”

“Brandon told her that he cheated on her and she blamed it on me, telling me that it was all my fault.” I said.

“It’s not your fault that he cheated.”

“I know, but she is blaming me for it.” I told him. “I’m just going to let her cool off before I talk to her.”

It was getting late and I was exhausted from everything that happened today. So James and I decided to head up to bed.

James and I had sex that night using no form of birth control.

“Alright girls, a week off for Christmas then right back at it in the New Year, I’ll let you know when the next practice is. Have fun and Merry Christmas!”

It was Monday and Christmas was on Thursday so I’m going to give the girls a few days off to enjoy it with their families and get drunk like I used to do. James and I have an appointment tomorrow with the fertility specialist and I was pretty excited for it. Just as I was leaving I saw Giselle leaning up against my vehicle waiting for me.

“If you are here to yell at me can we please not do it in the parking lot.” I said to her unlocking the car.

“Meghan I’m not here to yell at you I’m here to apologize, you deserve an apology.” She said coming closer to me and looking me in the eyes.

“I was really hurt by what you said, it’s not my fault that he cheated on you, if anything it’s James’ fault for bringing him to the bar.” Putting my bag in the back seat of the car and closing it. “I have had a hard few days and that was just the icing on the cake.”

“What happened to you?”

“The reason I came to your house was I needed someone to talk to because James and I had a fight.”

“About what?”

“Let’s go for lunch, it’s a long story.”

Giselle and I went into a small restaurant beside the arena and had lunch.

“So what happened?” she said as we sat down.

“Well I had a physical exam with my new doctor, so he took blood work and all that other fun stuff.” Now is when I get emotional. “The doctor phoned me and said that I should go in and talk to him about my exam. So James came with me and the doctor said I have a low ovarian reserve.”

“What does that mean.” She asked.

“It’s where I don’t produce enough eggs and when I do the quality of them is shit so the chance of James and I having a baby on our own is slim, the only thing that might work is IVF.”

“Omg Meghan I am so sorry, that’s horrible, and James got mad at you about it?” she said as the waitress brought our drinks.

“No, but he was talking to him mom and said that we should start the treatments now because the older I get the harder it will be to have a baby. So I told him that I was not ready to have a baby right now and he got upset, he called me in competent and that really hurt my feelings.”

“Ouch, so what are you doing now?” she asked.

“I did some thinking and I told him that I want to do it, it would be nice to have our own kid at our wedding.” I got a smile on my face. “First appointment is tomorrow so we will see how that goes, enough about me though what is up with you and Brandon now.”

“I’m staying in a hotel right now, I recommended couples counselling for us because I can’t trust him right now, I love Brandon and I don’t want this to ruin our relationship but it’s hard I don’t know if I can ever trust him again maybe this will be the end of us.”

“Are you sure you want to do that, I mean anyone can have a slip…have you seen him?” I said as the food arrived.

“No, I have only talked to him on the phone; I was going to go over there today after I came to meet with you.” She said.

“Just do the right thing, if you love him enough you can get through this but if it is not worth it then well you know where this is going.”

We ate our lunch and walked back to our vehicles together; I wished her luck and told her to phone me when she knew what was going on.

I got back home and James wasn’t home from practice yet, he had a game tonight so he should be home any minute to have his nap. I decided to phone Khloe and tell her about the few days events.

“Hello sexy.” Khloe said to me when she answered the phone.

“Hey beautiful.” We both laughed. “Shit went down the last few days.”

“What happened?”

“Well the doctor phoned me and he said he needed to talk to me. So James and I went in and he said that I have a low ovarian reserve, that means I don’t produce as many eggs as normal people and the once I do produce are shit so the doctor said I will probably not be able to get pregnant on my own but the only chance would be IVF.”

“Meghan that’s horrible, how is James dealing with all this?”

“Good, we are going to start the fertility treatments, we have an appointment tomorrow.”

“Holy fuck, I cannot wait to be auntie Khloe.” She was smiling.

“And Giselle found out what Brandon cheated on her.”

“I knew it; I knew she was going to find out soon.”

“And she blamed it on me.” I said.

“What the fuck, if she should be blaming it on anyone it should be James, he is the one who brought him to the bar in the first place.”

“That’s what I told her, after the practice today she came up to me and apologized.”

“That’s good, it wasn’t your fault.”

Just as Khloe and I were finishing up on the phone James walked into the house.

“Who are you talking to?” James said.

“Khloe.”

“Hey James.”

“Hey Khloe.” He said.

“I’m going to go girl, love you.”

“Love you more stupid” Khloe said as she hung up the phone.

“How was practice today?” James said.

“Good, I told them practice will start again in the New Year. Have you talked to your parents coming down for Christmas?” I asked him.

“Dad texted me and told me that they are going to stay in Whitby Christmas day, but come down a few days later.” He said. “It will just be you and me for Christmas.” He came over and kissed me. “I bought your gift the other day, I ordered it online it should be here anytime.”
Kissing me again.

“I still have to get yours, saving it till the last minute…classic Meghan.” I said. “I’ll probably take Giselle with me.”

“You and her friends again?” he asked.

“She was waiting outside the gym for me and apologized. And I told her about the whole baby situation.”

“I’m excited about tomorrow, time to start the process to have a baby, you ready for this.”

“James, I have always been ready to have a baby with you.”
