Dangeruss & Tazer

Chapter 26

Michael Crabtree stomped back to Sean Avery, who still held the struggling Patrick Kane around the neck, with his hand clamped over his mouth. Patrick’s blue eyes were wide open. Jermaine had escaped! But he had been wounded and he was losing blood….would he make it. He hoped that someone had found him and got him help and also let them know where he was.

“Nice try there Kanerboo, thinking you could escape the Blood Brothers like that? Smart plan you had, too bad we caught ya!” Sean sneered, leaning his face down, hovering it over the man’s shoulder.

The Blackhawk forward was dragged backward, away from the door and his freedom. He kicked and screamed, looking only like a fish dangling from a hook over dry land. Michael followed them, slamming the door shut behind him. The place was bathed in dim, shadowy light once more.

Sean shoved Patrick back into the cage, sending him into the bars at the far side. He stepped in and quickly closed the door and locked it in place.

Patrick caught the bars, gripping them in his pale, shaking fingers. He whipped around and put his back to the bar, flipping around. His eyes were wide with fright. What was going to happen to him? What was Avery going to do to him? He hated the suspense of not knowing the answer.

Luckily and unluckily he didn’t have to wait long to find out. Sean kneed him below the belt, making him double over, forward. Then he took his fist and pounded him in the stomach.

“Please stop, you’ve made your point! I’m sorry, Avery! I’m sorry for what I did!”

But Sean only spat at him. He then withdrew his roll of duct tape and bound Patrick’s wrists together in front of him.

“So, you thought you could escape me, eh?”

“Avery, please, I’ve changed. Just let me go and stop this!”

“No!! I’m never letting you go, Kanerboo!!”

Patrick whimpered, his lips quivering, as Sean grabbed him by the throat and rammed him back against the metal bar. The weird angle, cause a painful sensation to run up his spine and back. He winced in agony, before he was grabbed around the elbow of his arm, by a tight grip and dragged out of the cage once more. He was shoved to Michael, who caught him, wrapping him in a big bear hug.

Patrick watched, terrified, as Sean walked over to the stacks of boxes, that lined the other wall. He shoved them to the side and revealed a hidden door. He opened it up and signaled to his partner to bring the blonde man over. Patrick was shoved over to the secret room and shoved inside. He bit his lip, as he caught himself, just inside the doorway.

He saw Sean pick something up. The Blackhawk forward tried to figure out what it was. He couldn’t do anything else and Michael was in the doorway, smirking. The look sent a shiver through the winger, who gulped nervously. He slowly spun back around and came face-to-face with a giant rattlesnake.

He shrieked and jumped backward in fright. His eyes were wide open and his eyebrows were once more slanted upward in worry. He instantly whirled around and bolted to the door and tried to go through the football player, who stood his ground, mocking him.

“Where do you think you are going? Aww is little Peekaboo scared of a little tiny snake?”

“Please, let me out. I-I--” He glanced back to Sean who still held the snake in his hands. He was cackling sinisterly. “I have to get out of here!” He was aware that his voice was higher in volume and he didn’t even attempt to put on an act and hide his fear. His phobia.

“I don’t think so.” The black man laughed and shoved Patrick back.

The petrified Chicago player landed hard against a foldable table, before he stumbled backward into a chair. He was pinned, trapped inside of this small room, unable to escape. He tried to get the tape off of his wrists, using the arm of the chair, but it was a failed and frantic effort. He kept glancing up, every so often, as Sean paced forward with his reptilian friend.

Patrick screamed, as Sean leaned over and brushed the animal across his cheek, teasing him. The blonde man froze, at the touch.

“Geez, Kanerboo, you don’t like snakes, do you?” Sean sneered, withdrawing and putting the snake back into it’s little habitat and home.

Patrick shook his head, his mouth dangerously dry. He was shaking now, not from the cold interior of the room, but from what had just occurred. His lips quivered and he found himself struggling for air and the ability to breath normally.

The ex-hockey player goon snatched something else up and jammed it into his pocket, before walking back up to the panicked Blackhawk. He vanished from sight, before Patrick felt the massive arms encircling his neck, on either side. He leaned his head over the blonde man’s right shoulder.

“Now, Kanerboo, you’ve got to learn to face your fears. After all, if you can drunkenly assault the worst hockey goon in the world and destroy his career, what’s a little reptile going to do?”

Patrick gulped, not responding.

“You got anything to say to me, boy?”

Patrick choked out, “No, Avery, I don’t.”

“Well then, it is time for the next fun thing I have for you, Princess.” He withdrew his arms from where they were and slowly stood up straight behind him. He reached into his pocket and withdrew the item he’d snatched from the table. It was a black tablecloth or napkin. “Remain facing forward, or...well, you know you’ll get punished.”

The Blackhawk nodded, staring ahead. He was still shaking, but he’d managed to calm himself for the most part. Almost at once, the two massive arms reappeared in front of his face, in his vision path. He saw the cloth that was rolled up in a cylinder shape.

Patrick let a tiny squeak escape his lips, before his vision went black.

The blindfold was finally removed from his face. The first thing he saw was that he was back in the cage. He gasped in shock, finding his mouth once more secure with black tape and manila ropes scratching the skin on his wrists. He muffled a scream and tried to step backward, but found that he couldn’t go anywhere. He wasn’t even standing up, no he was sitting...in the chair. His ankles were bound together and his legs, above his knees. If he was standing and tried to move, it was only going to be a pitiful hopping.

His eyes went wide with fear, as he spotted millions of serpents crawling about the floor at his feet. He grunted his distress and squirmed helplessly and uselessly in his chair. A black snake with a red underbelly slithered up his leg. Its tongue flickered in and out and its beady eyes stared into Patrick’s.

The Blackhawk kicked, trying to get it off, but it continued up, into his lap. Patrick squeezed his eyes shut, whimpering behind the adhesive. He wanted to get out. He hated snakes. This was his number one fear.

The snake slithered up his shirt, its slimy, scaly skin rubbed against him. He shifted his torso, violently, trying to get free and get the snake off of him. His eyes remained tightly closed and tears welled up once more.

That’s when he felt more of the reptiles on him. It was like a nightmare, something out of a horror story, but Patrick knew it was all too real. He had dozens of snakes crawling on him and it made his heart race in his chest. The blood was pumping madly inside of him. He thought he might explode.

One of the serpents draped itself around his neck, but by now he was so full of fear, he didn’t move. He just remained still, feeling the scaly critters crawl up and down and all over him. After a while they withdrew from him and he finally opened his eyes. He saw them once more slithering around him and his feet.

Sean and Michael were watching him in chairs outside, amused and entranced by his “show.” All they needed was popcorn and snacks and they’d be entertained by his panic. It made him furious inside and as he thought about sending them a look, he heard the wail of sirens outside.

They had found him! It was Jonathan! Jonathan Toews was coming to save him!

“Crabs get the car, they can’t get him! They won’t get him!”

Michael took off toward the entrance, as Sean focused on the blonde man in the cage. Patrick howled behind the tape, as Sean swung open the door and stormed in. He stepped on a few of the snakes, but didn’t flinch, as some hissed and spat at him. He kicked a few to the side, as he reached out and yanked Patrick to his feet. He scooped him up quickly, and carried him from the cage.

Patrick continued to let out loud humming noises, that sounded like a bee trapped in a jar. The goon tossed him into the back of the truck and hopped over the side, jumping in after him.

The forward attempted to push himself upward, before being grabbed roughly by Sean and leaned against the back of the truck. The vehicle jerked to a start and sped off. But not before Patrick saw a familiar car zoom into view, and speed after them. In the driver’s seat, behind the wheel he spotted the face of his captain.

It WAS Jonathan!

“Go! Go!” Sean snapped.
