"This isn't the way to the rink." Zach whined as they turned the corner.

Mack rolled his eyes. "I'm making a pit stop."

"I don't like pit stops." Zach huffed.

"Then drive with Nathan again." Mack spat as he pulled his car into park.

"Nathan just listens to shitty rap and makes us drive past Audrey's everyday." Jo sighed.

"That's really," Mack stopped. "You shouldn't tell people that. Stay here while I run in."

"Get me something!" Jo called. Mack shook his head. "Dick."

Mack walked into the Timmies. He wasn’t there to grab anything, he was there to meet up with Kaylynn. He knew Sam was into her, and he knew everyone on his team had big mouths, so he figured this was the easiest way to talk things out. Truth being, they weren’t just old friends, they had dated. He broke up with her because the distance was too much. They dated when neither were able to drive to or from each other and their parents weren’t up for it either.

She was sitting at a table with her back to the door. She had her phone in front of her as she typed. One of her hands slowly reached for the drink in front of her. He walked over and sat in the chair across from her. She looked up slowly and smiled. He smiled back. He was paranoid that someone from his group was going to walk in and see them. She could tell.

“Look, I just want to clear somethings up. I’m not trying to have your friends tease you or anything.” She spoke.

He shook his head. “That’s not it at all. I don’t want anyone to see us.” He explained. She frowned. “No! That’s not,” He growled. “You know that blonde kid you met yesterday?”

He noticed her eyes light up a bit. “Sam?”

“Yeah, well, he’s into you, it’s obvious,” Mack began. “And everyone was a little suspicious about us knowing each other and I just don’t want someone to see us together and tell him because he will lose it.”

Kaylynn’s cheeks flushed but she tried to play it off. “That’s cool. I only asked to meet up so we could clarify that we ended on good terms,”

“Oh, God, yes. Perfect terms!” Mack exclaimed. “You’re still one of my closest friends.”

Jo was getting impatient. He growled and opened the car door. He walked into the Tim Hortons and then ducked behind a garbage as soon as he saw who Mack was with. They were laughing about something. Jo was noisy.

“So we agree that no one needs to find out we’ve ever dated?” Kaylynn asked as they stood up.

“Shake on it.” Mack extended his hand and she shook it. “Just friends.”

“Friends.” Kaylynn nodded.

Jo took off to the car. He hopped into the passenger’s seat. Zach gave him a dirty look. Jo saw Mack coming to the car. He had a tray with drinks. He was gonna play like it was busy, Jo was calling it now. Mack put the tray on top of his car and opened the door. He grabbed the tray and climbed in. He handed it off to Jo.

“It was ridiculous in there.” He huffed.

Was it?” Jo quizzed.

“Yeah! They had two people working when the line was almost to the door.” Mack shook his head as he buckled up then started the car.

“Huh.” Jo nodded before looking out the window.

Mack gave Zach a look about Jo through the rearview mirror. Zach just shrugged. Mack exhaled before pulling out and driving off. They still got to their practice with plenty of time. Audrey was sitting on the floor outside of the change room in a giant LA sweater. She had a frown on her face and the hood up. She had headphones in and was rocking back and forth. Zach stood in front of her. She looked up slowly.

“Are you still grounded?” Mack called as he walked out of the change room. Audrey nodded. “Wasn’t Dani over yesterday?”

“Yeah. I’m allowed to have her, Taylor, or Holiday come over but since Hol and Tay are always with their boys, it’s just me and Dani.” Audrey hissed. Sam Reinhart laughed at her. “And that asshole since he babysits while I’m forced to do extracurricular shit.”

Sam stopped at the door and backtracked until he was beside Zach. “I’m not an asshole.”

Audrey shrugged. “Yeah, well, that’s debatable.”

“How am I anything but nice to you?” Sam crossed his arms.

“Reminder that you tackled me to the ground with my little brother to tickle me the first time you babysat. Now you’re always tormenting me with the little shits.” She spat.

“Maybe you should try being more friendly and I wouldn’t torment you.” Sam suggested.

“Maybe you should just not be a dick!” She yelled.

“Wow, when’s the wedding?” Zach teased.

“After your funeral.” She shot back.

“You’re not denying they’ll be one.” Ryan smirked. She flipped him off. “Ouch, Audrey.”

“Fuck you, Hartman.” She growled before standing up and walking out to the stands.

The team changed and got onto the ice. Audrey covered her entire body in her sweater. She curled into a ball and attempted to sleep. The guys kept shooting pucks at the glass in front of her. Her music could only drown it out so much. Dustin stepped onto the ice and called them all over. Their first assumption was that they were in shit, but Dustin’s smile said differently.

“We’ve been invited to a tournament next weekend so in order to win at that tournament, we need to practice and play hard. Understood?” He told them.

They all nodded and went to their spots for practice.
