Kaylynn clicked the Bluetooth button on her steering wheel as she drove. She was making the hour and a half drive once again, but this time she was without Candice.

Aaron had picked Candice up the previous night. Kaylynn needed more time to compose herself after Sam leaving, but now she was driving in to see her friends.

"Hello?" She answered.

"Hey, are you almost here?" Mack asked.

"Yeah, about ten more minutes." She said, looking at the gps and some outside signs.

He smiled. "I'm really excited to see you. It hasn't even been that long." He laughed.

"I'm not going to be much fun. I'm still hurting." She confessed.

"That's what this weekend is for! You know I'm great at cheering people up!" He sang.

"You're just such a cheerful guy. It's contagious or something, and it can be annoying." She teased.

"That's what I'm here for, Kay." He told her. "I have the guest room all situated for you so it won't be weird."

"Nothing will ever be weird between us. You're still like the most important guy in my life." She explained.

"More important than Sam?"

"Can we not?" She spat, gripping the steering wheel tighter. Her knuckles were so white, they were almost transparent. "I know you're joking, but I'm st,"

"I'm sorry, I'm just a jokester. You know me." He frowned.

"Yeah, it's okay." She exhaled.

"I love you, Kay. I'm gonna help you get through this, alright? Just hold on a bit longer until you're with me to breakdown." Mack told her.

"God, I don't know if I can handle another breakdown." She scoffed.

"I'm ready to handle a couple." He assured her.

Kaylynn ended the call. She blared her music for the rest of her drive. She sang along, tapping on the steering wheel. She saw the corner of Sam's street and frowned. She decided to turn and drive past his house. His mom was carrying in groceries while his dad was in the doorway.

Kaylynn smiled a bit. She missed Sam's parents. They were always so nice to her. Obviously, she didn't only miss his parents. She missed him more. She missed him so much it was ridiculous.

The song changed as she turned back onto a main street. It was one song that always got to her. It especially got to her, considering her predicament at the moment. She mentally prepared herself as she listened.

If there was a chance that we could be lovers, I'd write you a book of handwritten letters. And burn them all up to the end, just to start over again.

She pulled her phone off the cord. She couldn't do it. She felt herself getting overwhelmed but calmed as she saw Mack's house in view. She sped up a bit. She pulled up into an open spot out front of Mack's house. She grabbed her bag and her phone and ran to the front door. She pushed the lock button on her key as she pounded on Mack's door.

He opened with a smile. He saw her frown and pulled her inside. She wrapped her arms around his waist, hiding her face in his chest. He hugged her while she calmed herself down. She would not be crying. He brushed her hair to calm her down.

The two didn't really hang out much that night. Kaylynn finished her fit before she went to bed. She cried then. She just didn't want to in front of Mack. He still heard her. He couldn't sleep because he couldn't stop thinking about how upset she was. He tossed and turned for a while before he gave up on sleep. He walked over to her room, knocking on the door gently.

"Come in." She called.

Mack pushed the door open slowly. "Your crying was keeping me up." He explained.

"Fuck, I'm sorry." She sighed, wiping her eyes.

"No, your crying isn't the problem. The problem is that I can't help you stop." He frowned.

Kaylynn clicked her tongue, sitting up. She patted beside her. "Mack, come here." She demanded.

He walked over slowly. He sat down beside her and wrapped an arm around her. She wrapped her arms around his torso, resting her head on his chest. He traced shapes on her arm as they sat like that.

"You letting me come stay here while I'm like this is more than enough. I just had some more that I needed to get out." She told him, smiling up at him.

In that moment, while Mack stared down at her, he realized something. The reason he wasn't mad or jealous about Sam was because she was happy. All Mack ever wanted was Kaylynn to be happy, and now that she wasn't, it was breaking his heart. He still cared about her in the same way he did when they had dated previously. Mack was in love with Kaylynn.

They were still staring at each other. Mack came back to reality and saw Kaylynn's head start to lower. He grabbed her face with his hand, tilting it upward. He pressed his lips to hers gently.

Kaylynn was surprised at first. She thought Mack hated her for dating Sam. She knew she'd hate him if he ever found someone new. She sat still for a second before she began to kiss him back. It felt right. It felt like everything she needed to get herself to feel better.

Maybe she wasn't so upset about Sam leaving, but more upset about how little Mack seemed to care about her moving on. But it was clear to her why he didn't cause a scene. Mack was a loud mouth, douche bag to everyone, but never her. He wanted her to be happy and he saw that Sam was doing that.

She pulled back slowly. "Mack," Her eyes were closed and their faces were still close.

"I'm still in love with you, Kay. I always have been. I just never realized." He breathed. "I saw Sam made you happy so I left it be but I've never envied a guy so much."

She smiled. "I'm still yours, Mack. I wouldn't want to be anyone else's." She explained.

"Good, because you won't be if I can help it." He said before kissing her again.
