Resurrection and Revenge

Epilogue - “You’re the Best Friend Anyone Could EVER Ask For, Jonny”

What many don’t know is that Patrick Kane is Jonathan Toews’ BEST friend. And vica versa. Sure both might act like they aren’t, but in fact they are. They many joke to the media and fans about hating one another, but deep down neither can resist the bromance and the friendship that they have.

They aren’t lovers, and they aren’t gay, but they are like brothers.

During a practice a month after all the Sean Avery stuff, Jonathan Toews lifted his hockey stick into a ready position. He and his best friend Patrick Kane were staying a few hours later after practice to perfect their stick handling and passing and shooting drills. Corey Crawford, the goalie for the team, had agreed to remain out with them. Coach Quenneville or Q had stuck them together on the same line once more to spark some energy.

Patrick's voice rang out from the opposite end of the frozen outdoor ice hockey rink for the Chicago Blackhawks. The Winter Classic was coming up soon and it would be good practice for the game. "Let's see whatcha got, Crow."

The perpetual grin of Corey Crawford's vintage goalie mask was all the response Patrick got before the blond man charged down the ice, flying with such speed it was blinding. He was just so fast and talented.

"Try to stop this!" Patrick howled, as he stick-handled like a pro.

"Yeah, whatever!"

Flecks of shaved ice spurted up behind the blond's blades. His stride lengthened until he was skating flat out, carrying the puck well in front of him, his hot breath rising in frozen puffs. The scrape of his blades on the ice and the sound of his breathing drowned out Jonathan's playful jeers and echoed dully off the snow-covered hemlocks, spruce, and pines that crowded around the frozen pond. It was one of his favorite sounds.

Corey, his smooth green head protected by a battered helmet, waited low and ready. He had all the armor he needed concealed beneath his jersey. The tape on his goalie stick was ragged around the edges of the blade, but he held it with a deadly patience, mirroring Patrick Kane's movements with his own as his adversary approached.

He had faced the blond winger so many times, but he still had to admit that the guy had talent and could beat him anytime he wanted to. Those sick moves he had and those hands. The blond drove toward him, feinted right, and then spun, all the while keeping the puck glued to the end of his stick. Corey whirled in unison with him, striking out to steal the puck just as Patrick roofed it into the lone net at the edge of the ice.

“Dammit it Kaner!”

"SCORE, one-nothing!" Patrick crowed as Corey dug the puck out of the goal finally. "Ha-ha Kaner’s back bitches!! It’s Showtime!! And the first point belongs to Kanerboo the Great, the One and Only, Patrick Kane! YEAH!"

Jonathan reached out easily with his stick, as Patrick came over to gloat and whipped his friend's feet out from under him; Patrick fell heavily to the ice. The brunette laughed, heartily as Patrick sat on the ice surface and folded his arms mustering a frown. He looked like a kid who had just gotten put in time-out or hadn’t gotten his way.

“Yeah, yeah, save your breath Kaner, baby. That was cute and all, but let old Jonny Boy show you how it’s done!”

"There's one for Jonathan Toews, Icemaster, King of the Blackhawks Team!"

Patrick flipped his own stick expertly behind his Captain's knees, bringing his friend down next to him with a crunch. "Whatever, 'Icemaster.' Ya don't mess with Showtime, especially when you're that slow."

He rose to one knee, but Jonathan was already on his feet, towering over his friend. "Who's slow now, princess Kanerboo?"

"You couldn't catch me if you was Ray Bourque with a rocket glued to yer skate, ya pansy," Patrick taunted.

Jonathan's stick came crashing down, but his friend had already rolled away across the ice.

“Why did I agree to this?” the goalie moaned, rolling his eyes, as he sent the puck to the Captain now. He skated around in his crease, preparing for the brunette’s shot.

“Because you felt bad and I bribed you with ‘But I saved your ass from Sean Avery’!” Jonathan reminded him with a chuckle and moved the puck back and forth in his blade similar to Patrick’s.

“Right.”

Jonathan launched off down the ice now. He didn’t care to pull any cute moves like Patrick had, but he did do a Jonathan Toews style shootout type move. The puck sailed into the net passed Corey, who didn’t really care to put effort into saving it.

“TIED! Your Showtime can eat my Jonnytime!” the Captain retorted.

Patrick laughed. “Right, Jonny, right. So we both can shoot one on one, what about passing? I think I throw better sauces than you!”

“Wanna bet?”

“You’re on!”

And then they both launched down the ice playing their roles, sending the puck back and forth like pros. They both looked the same and the first round, Jonathan buried it. The second time, it was Patrick. At the end, they both collided with each other and crashed to the ice.

“You’re right man, you are just as good as me!”

“But you’re better Kaner.”

“No you are Jonny.”

They began to cross-check one another playfully, laughing and having fun. After a few moments, both had their helmets off and were making ice angels on the rink from the snow kicked up by their skates during the scrimmage and drills.

“You’re the best friend anyone could EVER ask for, Jonny!”

“Well, ditto Kaner.”

“No I mean it, thanks for saving me and having my back. I may joke to the media, but for real, you’re the best. I love you so much, buddy and I’m proud to be your friend and play with you! I couldn’t ask for anyone better.”

“Thanks Kaner. You’re the best too. You’re talented and funny and so brave. I wouldn’t protect a better man!!”

They both got to their skates, looking into each other’s eyes. Their gazes held for a good couple of moments, before they resumed in the practice. And Jonathan Toews would continue to have Patrick Kane’s back and the other way around. They were the bestest of friends and there was definitely a bromance happening.

OMG, what a chapter! I was NOT excepting that! That was awesome! Hahaa, I liked Sid giving the signal if the villains were dead or not! XD Oh Sid!
But one thing: Toews has no sisters--he just has a brother, that's all. Patrick's the one who grew up with all the girls! ;)
But awesome job on it! :DD
