Resurrection and Revenge
Meanwhile With Dangeruss
Russell Wilson and his team, the Seattle Seahawks were practicing at the Chicago Bears’ stadium, prepping for the coming game. As he warmed up his arm, tossing the football back and forth with the Seahawks backup quarterback, he was listening to his playlist of music and reminiscing about his first year. He thought back to when he’d first become a Seahawk and how out-of-place he’d felt. He laughed a little as he remembered the team - Marshawn Lynch and veteran players like that - making fun of him.
He was short after all and he was different. But he had wisdom and an NFL football IQ, much like Peyton Manning. He was a mobile quarterback, but he wasn’t afraid to get dirty. And he certainly wasn’t afraid to take the team by the reins and lead them. He would bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Seattle.
He thought about that first day with the team:
“A-ha-ha-ha-ha! Wilson, you are a joke!” the Seattle Seahawk quarterback at the time, Matt Flynn, shot, as the short 5 foot 11 inch rookie threw an interception to his teammate, while aiming for Golden Tate deep down field.
“He’ll never get anywhere, Matt Flynn!” Marshawn Lynch, one of the Seahawk Running Backs snapped, slapping his fellow friend, Michael Robinson, while downing a bag of skittles.
Russell Wilson staggered off to the side of the field, hanging his head low. He was embarrassed about his progress. Hell, he didn’t even have any progress! He was simply a rookie. No one thought highly of him. No one would think highly of him.
“Ryan Tannehill and Robert Griffin’s got better numbers than this kid!? Why did Coach grab him in the draft, again?” Matt Flynn joked to Lynch, as the latter skipped over to the quarterback.
Flynn crossed his arms together. Lynch smacked Flynn’s arm, as the two sniggered with each other. Golden Tate joined in, trotting across the field, slapping Russell on the back, along the way. The young quarterback shot them a look of humiliation. He wondered why this was happening to him. But the harassment only fueled him. It fueled him to go back out and to create four touchdowns. He looked to the side and glimpsed Flynn, Tate and Lynch standing in shock.
“Russell Wilson, you have made me a very happy man!” Pete Carroll spoke from behind the proud rookie. He was chewing his gum, which he always did during games and practices and well...whenever and wherever. It was his trademark.
Russell Wilson slowly turned around and flashed his coach a genuine nod and smile. “Thanks Coach, but I really don’t know if I’ll ever be as good as Brady, Rodgers or even the great Peyton Manning.”
Pete Carroll shook his head. “Don’t say things like that. I’m putting you out on the field and benching Flynn’s ass. You are younger and more mobile and I like what I have seen out of you!” he explained to Russell.
Russell looked at his new coach in shock, “What?”
Carroll leaned down further and whispered into his ear, “Just between you and me, I see more potential in you. I did when I drafted you to Seattle. You are going to make the Seahawk record books. Soon everyone will be chanting “Russell Wilson is the best Quarterback EVER”! Can you make me proud? Can you deliver a grand performance to fans?”
Russell nodded, sternly, raising his head high. He would. He would do it for his Coach and for the fans!
“Good! Then let’s prove to America that Ole’ Coach Carroll make a smart choice by drafting a 3rd round Rookie for quarterback!”
The coach walked away from him. But that had only been the beginning of Russell Wilson’s great NFL career…
And as he finished thinking and catching the fiftieth pass from the new backup for Seattle, under his leadership and rein, he couldn’t help but smile. He’d accomplished something great. And he’d been rewarded for that.
He chuckled and turned his thoughts to a months ago, when he’d helped out a hockey player find his missing friend. He loved to help people, no matter who they were. And it had been fun to hang out with Jonathan Toews and the Blackhawks.
And he wasn’t lying when he’d told the Captain of the Blackhawks that he would be there for him and be his friend. Jonathan was just like him and for that, they shared a familiar and unbreakable bond. Like Jonathan had with Patrick Kane, Russell had with his teammates and now with a hockey player.
The practice began and everyone looked sharp and ready. It was time to bring on the Chicago Bears!
