Just Say Yes

It has been two months later since Kennedy’s dad went into his first lung surgery. For those past two months Kennedy will go see her dad to see how he was doing.There were sometimes that Addison would have come since she’s on her leave. Kennedy heard from her dad that her mother is coming into town to see him. She didn’t know if she wants to be here when her mother is here or not.
“Kennedy for me will you just let things go with you and your mother.” Kennedy and her dad were watching a movie that was playing on TV.
“I don’t know dad. Things aren’t the same any more. She wanted to control my life for me and not become a writer just like you.” Kennedy was looking down at her hands. When she got a text from Patrick.
“Seeing your dad?” Patrick hasn’t seen a lot of Kennedy since that night. She’s always at the hospital with her dad. Bringing in her work while he was watching tv or sleeping. When she needed to get home he was already asleep. In the morning he was already heading out to the UC for morning practice. She could feel that Patrick is upset that she’s spending a lot of time with her farther than being with Patrick. At this moment Kennedy needs him more than anything right now. Her dad was dying and he’s dad has a clean bill of health. She didn’t know how to respond to Patrick.
“Just think abut it. Go home and talk to Patrick about it. I think he misses you."
“How do you know that?
“I can see it in Patrick’s eyes of how much he loves you. I will see you tomorrow and I want to hear your answer about spending time with the whole family, not just you and I."
“Fine daddy.” She walked over to her dad and kiss his cheek then left for Patrick.

When she’ got to the apartment he could hear the tv on in the bed room. Walking into the bedroom Patrick was watching something on tv.
“Hey.” She sat down on the bed next to Patrick.
“How is he?"
“The same as yesterday, nothing hasn’t change in his lungs yet. Patrick I wanted to say sorry that I’m spending my free time with my dad. He means a lot to me by helping me who I am today and that’s a writer. “ Patrick wrapped his arms around Kennedy’s shoulders and had her head on his chest.
“It’s ok Kennedy everything is all right. I would have done the same thing if my farther was in the same state as him. When is he’s next surgery ?"
“The day after tomorrow but dad wants to me come over tomorrow because mom will be in town.” Kennedy was waiting for Patrick to give her an answer without giving it a question.
“I think you should go."
“Why?"
“Well she’s your mom and I know what happen but you can’t hold that against her for the rest of both of your lives. If this will make your dad happy then you have to do it then.” Kennedy does love to make her dad happy no matter what it would be.
“Do you want me to come with you just in case? I have that day off from everything. Our next game is tomorrow against the Blue Jackets than I am on the road for a couple of days.” Kennedy was thinking of the pros and cons for Patrick meeting her mom for the first time. He did met her dad and she met his whole family.
“That would be amazing Patrick. Thank you so much.” She gave him and kiss, place her hand on his chest and watch whatever was on tv.

While they were heading to the hospital Kennedy was getting nervous about sees her mom. It’s been a long time since she saw her. The last time she saw her mom was when they were in her kitchen auguring about her leaving for Chicago. Kennedy told her that she didn’t need her in her life anymore. That she was the worst mom that no one should have as a mother. Patrick could feel that she was nervous and grabbed her hand,
“Everything is going to be alright K.”
“I know but my mind won’t slow down.” Walking into her dad’s room and she could hear some laughing and it was just her mom and dad. Kennedy could see through the open door that Addison and Jon were there to. Addison was sitting down while Jon was standing next to her. Addison is getting bigger by the minute.
“So Addison can you believe that you’re going to be a mom next year?” Kennedy’s mom asks.
“I think it won’t hit me till I have them in my arms.” Addison had one hand on her stomach and the other on Jon’s hand.
“Hey sweetheart.” Kennedy’s dad saw Patrick and Kennedy. Kennedy gave hugs to everyone but her mother.
“Patrick this is my mom Kate. Mom this is Patrick.” They booth shook hands and Patrick came back to Kennedy’s side. Kennedy could see the look on her dad’s face that he was happy that she made it when her mother was here. Everything was quiet for a moment because they could feel the tension between Kennedy and her mother.
“So boys when do play against?” Brent trying to change the subject.
“Tomorrow night we play against the Blue Jacket then on the road up to Canada. The Leafs and my home town the Jets. Then we have three days off for the christmas break then back on to the road to Denver.” Jon answered.
“Kennedy I heard that you were in Denver for a while? Why were you there?” Kennedy’s mom looked at her.
“Because, I needed a small change and then I decide that I didn’t like it there so I moved back here."
“And Patrick was alright for you to just pack up and leave for Denver?” Kennedy was getting upset that her mother would ask these question in front of her own farther, Patrick, Addison and Jon. All she wanted to do was scream at her to shut up and you don’t know anything about her.
“I let her go to Denver because I knew that it would help her become an amazing sports writer that she’s now. When she told me that she was coming back here to Chicago I couldn’t wait for her to come back.” Patrick slide his arm around Kennedy waist.
“Oh.” That was the only thing that came out of Kate’s mouth.
“How did you know what happen to me when I was Denver?"
“Well living in a small town and everyone knows about what’s going on with Addison’s life. They know that you are great friends with her that they know what’s going on with you.”
“I’m sorry daddy.” Kennedy couldn’t take it anymore, she turn around and walked out of the room. Leaving Patrick there with her parents. Addison should get Kennedy back. When she try to get up from the chair Patrick and Jon helped her up.
“Let’s go get her.” She only spoken to Patrick. They both try to find Kennedy in the hospital when Patrick got a text from Kennedy.
“Out in the parking lot waiting for you to take me home.” So they all headed to the parking lot where there she was leaning on Patrick’s car waiting to leave and wanted to forgot this whole day very happen. When Patrick got closer to Kennedy, she places her head on to her shoulder.
“Why can’t she just leave me alone!” She started to cry.
“She’s your mother Kennedy. She will try to do anything to get under your skin. Now lets go home and just relax. We don’t have to think or worry about anything. When we get home I won’t think about hockey at all. I promise you that.”

When the Blackhawks got to Toronto some of the guys went out to have dinner. When the group pass by a Tiffany & Company and Patrick’s eyes spotted a beautiful ring.
“Hey guys I’ll catch up later I need to do something.” They all nodded and left Patrick alone. But he wasn’t alone. Jon was there waiting for him to walk inside the building. He knew what he was going to do.
“Are you sure that you are ready for this?"
“The hell I am.” About a couple of hours later both of them walked out and one of them was holding a baby blue bag. When they walked into the restaurant their group save them a seat. Patrick placed the bag on top of his lap and it didn’t move from the spot till they needed to head back to their hotel.

Laying on the bed, he knew that he need to call Kennedy to see how she was doing. She pick up the second ring.
“Hey honey how was the flight?"
“Good, did you see your dad today?"
“No because he just had his second surgery and they gave him a lot of drugs to make him sleep better. Also mom is still here in town. Do you do anything fun today?"
“Nope just landed and had dinner with the team. Man I miss you already and I’m not going to be gone for a couple of days."
“I know Patrick but it’s part of being a hockey player."
“That’s true. So I need to get some rest and I will talk to you later."
“Ok Patrick,good luck tomorrow. I love you.
“Love you to."

Kennedy got everything ready for Patrick to get home from his trip. Beating the Leafs but losing pretty bad against the Jets. Kennedy did finish her christmas shopping and help Addison with her shopping for Jon. There wasn’t that much stuff since both Patrick and Jon just sign a great contract to stay with the Blackhawks for the rest of their career. All that matter for Kennedy is to make Patrick happy when he get’s home. When her phone was ringing. She didn’t know that Matt was going to call her.
“Hey Matt, how are you?"
“Good, I miss you.
“I miss you to.
“So I heard about your dad."
“How?"
“Addison told me about what’s going on. Because I was getting happy when I see on the calendar that you’re coming back to Denver on the 27 but when Addison told me that you’re not because of your dad. I’m glad that you want to be there with your dad.
“Thanks and Patrick is like the same way. I been spending more time with my dad than Patrick right now.” Matt didn’t say all that much when Kennedy brought up Patrick’s name.
“I wish that I can come but with my dad and Addison is almost close to her due date with the twins. I think it was much easier just doing that. I’m sorry Matt but remember that your Avalanche are coming to Denver like the week after the new year. So I can see you then, we can have lunch before the game."
“Do you think that Patrick would care?"
“No I don’t think so. Besides where friends now and he knows that.” Then Kennedy hearing the front door close.
“Hey Patrick got home and I need to see him. So I’ll talk to you later than."
“Sure.” Then Matt hung up the phone.
