What Dreams Forget

Tori Lynn was bouncing with excitement as she looked at all of her boys. Tyler and BK were all dressed in black jeans and Cash t-shirts. Chase was wearing black slacks and a white button down. Addi had given him a rockabilly type vibe. Sam had turned up in an all-black suit. Hell, Addi had even gotten into the action looked like a 50’s pinup. Colby was in a black button down and black slacks. Everyone looked like they had stepped out of the movie Walk the Line.
“Y’all look amazing” exclaimed Tori Lynn. She glanced down at her black tea length dress. It was her favorite silhouette. That vintage prom dress look. Red crinolines and red strappy heels setting it off. Addi had curled and teased her hair within an inch of its life. The result was something of a cross between June Carter Cash and Rizzo from Grease.
“We decided on a Johnny and June theme” said Sam winking at her. He took her by the hand and spun her around “Hot damn girl you sure you don’t wanna just roll to Jackson with me.”
“Nah,” said Tyler “She is going to come hang with me. Wants to see my bow!”
“We’ll see” laughed Tori Lynn “I already know you look hot sleeveless and dirty.”
Tyler and the boys laughed. Thomas Rhett walked to the wing of the stage and did a full turn for Tori Lynn in his all black slim fit suit. Tori Lynn gave him two thumbs up when Jason Aldean ventured over in a black button down holey jeans and a black hat instead of his usual white. “We ready to rock this stage?” asked Jason.
“Yes, last night of the tour. Gonna be the best yet” said Colby “Here’s to big things, more tours, and safe holidays.”
“Damn straight” called the boys “The stage is yours Miss Hall.”
Tori Lynn stood at the edge of the stage awaiting her cue. She could see Colby in the opposite wing. 5,4,3,2, 1 and she strutted across the stage the strains of Jompson Brother’s Blood in the Water blaring. She couldn’t help but laugh. She knew Tyler was behind that one. She and he shared a crazy love for her fellow Kentuckian Chris Stapleton. But the time she entered the center of the stage the music morphed into Jingle Bells. She never failed to be amazed at the heat of the lights and the number of flashes going off. She grabbed Colby’s hand walked to the edge of the front t of the stage.
“How y’all doing tonight?” called Colby “It’s the last night of the Boots and Belles tour….. and it’s going to be an epic show. We love being in the state of Tennessee and if we can’t be in Nashville we love being in Memphis. Y’all know my main girl Tori Lynn. Make some noise because we’re gonna blow the roof off this place.” The crowd erupted again. Tori Lynn and Colby laughed when they heard some drunk guy holler and ask Tori Lynn if tonight was a good night.
Laughing Tori Lynn addressed the drunk in the front row “Why darlin’ I believe it is!” She moved over and took his phone from him she snapped a selfie with him in the background. She handed the phone back and blew him a kiss. “You heard the man Colby.” They started Sleep with a Stranger. The crowd was loud. She would never get over the crowds knowing the words to their songs. The transitioned into Mad Love. Their set was flying by. She was nervous with the new pyro stuff but wanted to see the crowd’s reaction. Three more songs passed and they took their marks for Johnny and June.
“This is something new we worked on just for Memphis. I can’t imagine anything that would be better than a love like Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. And I love that all my tour mates decided to rock the Johnny look for tonight. Get ready…”
She eased into Johnny and June. They had decided that it looked better without her guitar. She was standing at the top of the circle singing into a vintage mic. She imagined this is what June felt like looking out at the crowd. When she got to her mark she kicked the switch to the footlights and the light appeared to shatter. She turned and pulled the mike back with her to the center of the circle as it exploded into fire. She finished the chorus and went into the second half of the song.The fire burned hot then faded to low glow before erupting into a volley off sparks all around her. That was new. It hadn’t done that earlier. She began the final ascent into the chorus. As Tori Lynn turned to begin to walk out of the circle. She stopped in her track. Tori Lynn hit her final note. Then dropped her mike. Tori Lynn then launched herself across the stage. Somewhere between laughing and crying when James caught her. The audience burst into hysterics as the scene played out in front of them. Tori Lynn kissed him. She pointed at his microphone. “What do you have to say for yourself James Neal?” Standing in a burning ring of fire he smiled that naughty little boy smile and said “Happy Birthday Baby.”
Tori Lynn hid her face in his neck before saying “Damn it Neal.”
“I told you you’d kiss me before him” laughed Neal. Tori Lynn then realized he was holding a leash. Nixon was looking at them both. And he was wearing his bow tie. Tori Lynn sat down on the stage dress be damned and loved on the babified pit. She then led them both to the front of the stage. She introduced Neal though everyone knew who he was. Nixon on the other hand was a surprise. And she and the crowd were obviously in love. “Both of my loves” said Tori Lynn. James swung her around and kissed her soundly.

Tori Lynn the realized everyone including Addi was on stage with them. She shook her head and hid against James when they began singing Happy Birthday. She was even more shocked as the crowd sang along. James kissed the top of her head. He then steered her to where Addi was jumping up and down in front of a huge black and gold birthday cake.
“Don’t stare at it” laughed Chase “Blow’em out before the fire marshal shuts us down.”
“Shut it Chase Rice” she called blowing out the candles “I’m not that old.”
She stepped back into the circle of James arms. As the cake was wheeled back stage.She was handed her blue sparkly mic. “Thanks to my tour mates, this awesome crowd, and my boys for surprising me. I’m gonna go snuggle my boy until Sam’s set.”
James walked off the stage hand and hand with Tori Lynn. He leaned in and asked what she wished for. She smiled up at him “Not a thing Neal, I got everything I ever wanted on stage tonight.”
