One Shots

Jeff Skinner~ Two Kids in Love

Laying down on the couch Katelyn turned the TV on with the remote. The screen that was mounted on the wall turned from black to moving in colour. Letting out a groan she buried her face in chustions. Moving just enough so that one of her eyes were looking at the TV, she changed the channels. Stopping she started watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He was chasing after the bad guys on boats in Italy.

"Oh. I love this movie."

She said to herself. Sniffing her nose she let out another groan of uncomfortableness. Dressed in a pair of her short yoga pants and a sports bra. She had woken up that morning feeling like crap and without Jeff in bed next to her. Since then she had made herself a fort on the couch and had only gotten up to make herself cups of teas and to go to the bathroom, and it was now four in the afternoon. Jeff had been gone on a road trip for the past week and she needed him more than ever. Grabbing her phone from higher up on the cushion and called Jeff, again. Getting his voice mail, again.

"Jeff, when are you going to be home? I need you... really bad. I need you to get me some food... please. Come home. I miss you."

She said into the phone with a whine to her voice, making herself sound even more patric. Katelyn dropped her phone to the floor and watched the movie.

++++++++++

Three movies later Katelyn didn't feel any better. The pile of used tissues had grown into a huge mountain, and the number of used tea bags had piled up in the garbage. She had watched the rest of Indiana Jones, Wolverine, The Waitress, and Miracle.

"Jeffery. Where are you!"

She whined as she looked through Netflix for what seemed like the hundredth time in the past three days. She clicked on 'TV Shows' and looked for the comedies. In seconds she found 'Community' and clicked on season one. She had watched this show over and over again, but it was one of her favorites. The first episode started and she moved her body into the pillows and blankets, getting comfortable.

"Baby? Are you alive in here?"

Jeff asked as he opened the door from the garage. He heard the TV playing but there were no other sounds in the whole house. Dropping his gear bag and suitcase against the wall of the kitchen, Jeff walked deeper into the house to the living room. There he saw a blanket slash pillow fort on the couch, Community was playing on the large TV, a pile of tissues were on the floor between the couch and coffee table, and Katelyn was asleep in her fort.

"And I'm the 12 year old."

He said to himself as he looked at the fort and Katelyn hugging a stuffed bear. Grabbing the remote, turned the TV off, then grabbed the empty mug off the table and walked back to the kitchen. Putting it in the sink, he stopped and did the dishes that were already in the sink. A few minutes later, as he dried his hands he walked back to the living room, seeing that Katelyn was still out cold. Jeff then went to pick up all the tissues and brought them to the garbage can in the kitchen.

When the living room floor was cleaned, Jeff walked over to his girlfriend's fort and looked down at her. She had her right arm above her head and the left was hugging her Build-A-Bear that he had gotten her for her birthday a year ago. There were no blankets on her torso as she slept and they were all pushed down to her feet. Looking at her face, drool was coming out from the bottom corner of her mouth and going on to the green pillow case. Jeff shook his head at her and let out a very small and quiet chuckle.

Bending his knees, Jeff scooped Katelyn up with his arms and stood up when she was leaning against his chest. Her head rested on his dress short and droll started to form a small ever grown puddle on his chest. Jeff didn't mind the droll, he actually enjoyed taking care of her when she was sick. Despite all the whining and the dramatics, this was a time where it wasn't her taking care of him of a change, which was nice.

"Jeffery?"

Katelyn choked out in her sleep, not yet opening her eyes. Jeff let out another chuckle as he started to walk up the stairs.

"Yes. I'm here baby."

Katelyn didn't respond to him with any words, she just smiled. Smiling she drifted back to her sleep as he carried her up the stairs like a princess. At the top of the stairs Jeff walked down the hallway to the every end where their bedroom was. He kicked open the door with his foot, he went in and laid Katelyn on the bed. Only a few of the many blankets were gone off the bed. Jeff pulled back the remaining blankets and put Katelyn down right in the middle of it.

Quickly pulling the covers back, Jeff pulled his suit jacket off of his shoulders and put it on top of the dresser. He removed his belt, wallet, and phone from his pants. Then kicked off his shoes and socks. Dressed in only his suit pants and white button down shirt, Jeff walked over to the opposite side of the bed. Pulling not much of the covers back, Jeff put himself into bed then wrapped his arms around Katelyn's body, pulling her into his chest.

"Baby, I'm sick."

She whined as she tried to move away from his warm body. Jeff let out another chuckle, but kissed the side of her neck aways.

"Just let me take of you."

"Okay. If I have to."

"I won't have it any other way."

Jeff told her as he kissed the back of her neck. Alyssa smiled to herself and started to go back to sleep. Letting out a sigh Jeff closed his eyes tried to do the same thing. He had been gone on a eight day road trip to Colorado and California. All four of those game have been really hard and all four of those games were with no points to the Hurricanes. Sometimes he wished that he played for another team and he had told Katelyn this many times. Jeff had dreams that he played for the Rangers or Montreal. But the Hurricanes were his family and even if they made fun of him sometimes, it was his family. If he didn't play for them he would have never met Katelyn.

They met at a home game for the Canes, they were hosting the Oilers who were on a east coast trip. Katelyn and a few of her friends from Edmonton had made the long trip down south for the game, they had followed the team on the whole road trip, seeing their boys play against four other teams. She had saved up for months, working overtime and as many nights as she could to do the trip. The total trip was over four thousand dollars just on her part, but totally worth it.

The game against the Hurricanes was the Oilers last stop on the east and the group went all out for this game, they scored glass seats. Jeff knew that he shouldn't check out girls during warm up and if he did they shouldn't be the visiting team's fans. However, in this case, Jeff shouldn't help himself. Katelyn was in the middle of two of her best friends Jesse and Colton. Her hair was shorter back then and dark brown. In her hands she had a sign that was something sexual that was pointed at Taylor Hall. She would alway recall that Hall noticed her sign and that if Jeff had gotten to her first that she would be back in Edmonton snuggled up with Hall during the old north Alberta winters. She wore her dad's Gretzky jersey from the 80s and a pair of black denim jeans.

He remembered that Eric was giving him crap about her and he would just shrug it off. During that whole game he couldn't take his eyes off of her. He even scored a goal during the second period just so he could do his celly in front of her. After the game he changed as quick as he could and went to look for her. He had a few friends at the game that night and he had texted them saying that he wanted to talk to this girl and for them to find her. With some kind of luck and weird twist of fate, his friend Sam found Katelyn and convinced her to go to a bar to met Jeff, and she agreed. Kayelyn later told Jeff that she was disappointed that it wasn't Taylor Hall that wanted to met her, but he ended up making it up to her and she had met Hall a handful of times now that they are on a first name bases. Katelyn took a taxi ride to the bar that Sam had told her to met Jeff at. After waiting there for fifteen minutes, Katelyn had the sinking feeling that it was all a set up, but just as she went to leave Jeff came running in to the rescue. For the both of them they felt like it was some plot from a movie, to this day they still felt that way, somehow everything work themselves out.

After three months the two of them took a leap of faith and Jeff helped Katelyn made the big move from Edmonton to Raleigh. Ever since then the team had alway made the couple the butt of their jokes, making fun of how the two of them act like they were little kids. They would go out and see animated movies and Jeff took Katelyn to Build-A-Bear for her birthday. They didn't care they were just two kids at heart who loved each other.

Jeff smiled to himself and kissed the spot on Katelyn's back again. Giving her waist a small squeeze, Jeff let out a small sigh and closed his eyes.

"I love you, Kate."
