I Can't Help It ~Sidney Crosby~

Chapter 2

The next morning, I went over to the arena for the morning skate. There's a game tonight between the Penguins and Bruins. I walked into the arena using the back entrance. I saw Sidney Crosby standing right there. He was blocking the door to the locker room while talking to a crew person. I walked up to him and said,"Excuse me." "Oh, right. Sorry,"he said, moving away from the door. I looked down as I walked in. No one was there. I sighed and sat in the corner.

A few minutes later, the door opened, startling me. I looked up and saw Crosby with his hockey bag on his shoulder. I focused my eyes on the floor. "Did I scare you?"he asked quietly. I nodded, my eyes still down. I heard Sidney sigh and drop his bag on the floor. "Please hand me the black tape,"he said. I grabbed a roll of tape and threw it towards him. He caught it and said,"Thanks." I bit my lip and looked down. This is so awkward. "Where's everyone else?"I asked. "They're going to be here in about half an hour. I usually come early,"Sidney said. I nodded.

"So, how have you been?"he asked. I looked up and asked,"Seriously? How have I been? You left me broken down. How do you think I am, sitting in the same room as you. It's been 6 years. You haven't changed at all." All the anger I've had in the pit of my stomach for 6 years just disappeared. I sighed. "Look Lex,"he said. "Don't call me that,"I said, looking up at him. He stood up and walked over to me. I stood up too. "Alexis, I'm really sorry,"Sidney said. "Sorry doesn't mean anything,"I said. "What can I do to make this better?"he asked.

"Nothing. I hate you,"I said. He looked dreamily into my eyes with his hazel ones. "I don't care what kind of charm you have with other girls, but it's not working with me, so get over it. I hate you. It's been so hard for me to hear about you since you made it to the NHL.Crosby this, Crosby that. Everyone loves you! Mr. Golden Goal at the Olympics. Can you just give it a break? I'm sick and tired of people telling me that I'm so lucky to have Sidney Crosby as a best friend. They don't know anything. I hate you so much. You ruined my life,"I said.

Tears welled up in my eyes. I refused to let them fall. "I just want you to know, I never meant to hurt you,"Sidney said. "Sure you didn't,"I said. He took hold of my hands and said,"I'm really sorry." I pulled my hands away and said,"Leave me alone. I don't need a Sidney Crosby in my life." He sighed and walked away to his bench. Telling him how I really feel about him makes me feel way better. I'm glad I did it. About 10 minutes later, the team came. "Hi Alexis,"Tanner said, sitting down next to me. I smiled and said,"Hi Tanner."

When the boys were in their equipment and stuff, we went down to the ice. The guys skated around. I sat on the bench and watched them. They started playing. "We got blood!"I heard someone shout. I looked up and saw Sidney coming up to me with his hand to his nose. I could see blood. I let him into the bench area and sat him down. "Tilt your head up,"I said. Sidney did as I said. He moved his hand away from his face. I put a towel to his nose and said,"Keep it there." He nodded. "Don't move,"I instructed.

I saw Dan Bylsma walk over to the bench. "Hey, what happened?"he asked. "Nosebleed,"Sidney said. Dan sighed and shook his head. "Alright. Just sit out for now,"he said. Dan walked out to the team and started running drills with them. Some other crew members were there too. I was stuck on the bench next to a bloody Crosby. I carefully took the towel away from his nose and looked at it. "Um, come with me,"I said. He stood up. I led him to the locker room. "Go in the bathroom and just wash the blood all over your face. Try not to touch your nose. Leave it alone,"I said.

Sidney walked into the bathroom. He came out a few minutes later. "Is your nose still bleeding?"I asked. He said,"Nah, it's fine now. Thanks." I said,"No problem." We walked over to the ice. "Take it easy,"I said as I watched him skate off. After the morning skate, Dan Bylsma came over to me and said,"You can leave now. Thanks for taking care of Sid. The game starts at 6, so come to the arena around 5." "Okay, thanks,"I said. I got into my car and drove over to my house.
