Sam nodded as Kaylynn rambled on about what Mack was up to now. That was all she ever talked to him about. Mack. Sam was her go to person to vent about her relationship. Sam exhaled as he rested his head in his hand. Kaylynn took note of it. She figured he was just tired from practice. As she continued on, she noticed an eye roll now and again. She stopped and put down her fork.

“What’s the problem, Sam?” She sighed, folding her hands.

He shrugged as he sat down his fork as well. “Every time there’s a problem between you and Mack, you come running to me. That’s why you asked me to come here today.” He explained.

“No, I asked you to come here so we could hang out.” She argued.

“Whenever we hang out, we just talk about Mack.” He spat.

“I’m just venting. I thought that’s what friends were for. You do it with,” She hesitated. “Your girlfriend.” She frowned.

“Alana.” He chuckled. “You don’t even know my girlfriend’s name!”

"Sam,"

"No, friendship should be more than this, Kaylynn." He huffed.

He shook his head and stood up. He set down a twenty dollar bill and walked out. Kaylynn growled, running her hands through her hair. He was right. Their entire friendship was her whining about Mack. She set money down as well before following Sam out. She saw his car pulling out of the parking lot and sighed before deciding to following him.

She pulled up to his house and saw his car in the driveway. She parked out front. She took a deep breath then opened her car door. She slowly stepped out of the car. She was nervous but she knew she needed to make things right. She closed her car door, adjusted her shirt, then walked down the pathway to his front door, slowly. She got to the door and knocked.

He opened the door, looking down. He looked up slowly with an unimpressed expression. He just walked into the living room without saying a word. She followed him in, closing the door behind her. He dropped on the couch while typing on his phone.

"I know all I do is complain about Mack," She began, gaining his attention. "But it's because I only feel comfortable talking about this shit to you. You've talked about Alana before too, Sam. We both know that."

"Yeah, I have but not a quarter of the amount you've talked about Mack." He argued. "And I appreciate that you trust me but this can't be our entire friendship."

"What? Both of us just bashing our partners?" She tried to joke.

He chuckled. "Have you ever noticed that I tried to find someone exactly like you?"

"What?"

"Everyone always thinks Alana is you because when I left, I was looking for you. I found someone that looks and acts and talks like you, but she'll never be you." He explained. "You're all I can seem to think of and it fucking sucks that I'm just the guy you go to when your boyfriend's pissing you off."

"Please don't do this." She begged, covering her face.

"From day one, I knew he would win you." He shook his head at himself.

"Sam, please. Please don't do this to me right now." She pleaded with him.

"I think the worst part of it all is that I know you're not coming back to me and I don't know what to do with myself because of that." He finished.

She took a deep breath. "I need to go. We'll talk." She managed to spit out before running out of his house.

She drove to Mack's quickly. It was taking everything in her to not breakdown. Sam was her best friend and he was laying all of that on her at a bad time. When she parked at Mack's, she knew he wouldn't be home. He was supposed to be out looking for schools. She ran into the house. She stopped when she walked into his room and saw him.

"What the fuck?" She yelled as she yanked the blankets off of him.

"Hey!" He whined, grabbing the comforters.

"What happened to going to school?" She pulled the blankets further away.

"I changed my mind. I don't wanna go to school." He grumbled, covering his head with his pillow.

She threw his blanket across his room. "So this is all you're gonna fucking do?" She screamed.

"What am I doing wrong?" He sat up.

"Laying around, being a lowlife, dropout! You're being a fucking loser, Mack!" She hissed. "You don't work, you don't help your parents out, you don't do anything!"

"That's pretty fucking mean, Kaylynn." He mumbled.

"It's the fucking truth!" She growled in response.

She continued ranting and raving. She threw things, kicked things, and just went off. Mack sat and watched. He listened to what she was saying. All she was doing was dragging him. She claimed to love him then talked to him like this? He sat through a lot of it before he finally snapped. He shot up off the bed and grabbed her wrists to stop her. He got as close to her face as possible.

"Stop being so fucking psychotic." He said through gritted teeth.

She shoved him onto the bed. He stared up at her. She shook her head at him before she grabbed a bag and packed a bunch of her shit. He just watched. He didn't understand why she was being how she was. He didn't understand he made her that way. She finished grabbing her things as the tears finally came. She wiped her face and stormed out.

Kaylynn laid in Danielle's bed. Danielle had let her come spend the day at her house, but now she was gone to Michael's for the night so Kaylynn could have her room. Kaylynn needing a place to crash was the only reason Danielle got to stay at Michael's. She was secretly thankful Mack had pissed Katlynn off.

Kaylynn ignored another of Mack's calls. She wasn't going to talk to him. A different vibration went off. It was a text from Candice. They hadn't seen as much of each other since they hadn't been living together for over a week. She unlocked her phone and read it. Mack had called Candice and pleaded with her to ask Kaylynn to answer him. Candice told her to just call him and lash out.

Kaylynn bit her lip before dialing his number. "Hello?"

"Kay?" Mack sounded relieved.

"Fuck you. I didn't deserve that." She hissed.

"Babe, I know, and I'm sorry. I love you and if you would j,"

"No, you aren't," She laughed. "And no, you don't. If you loved me, I wouldn't be treated the way you treat me. It was wrong how badly you treated me and how I was okay with it."

"What are you saying?" He asked, his voice shaky.

"We're done. I don't deserve any of this." She was crying. "I love you but I don't want to be hurt anymore."

"Kaylynn, please think about this some more. Please." He sounded like he was almost in the same state.

"I have, Mack. I've had plenty of thinking time and I just," She took a deep breath. "I need to do what's right for me."

She ended the call there. She cried her eyes out while she sent a text to all the girls. They started to talk to her but she wasn't able to keep up. She didn't want to. When she finally decided to check, Kylee made the most affective comment.

"You shouldn't have to rip yourself apart to keep him whole."

Kaylynn thought about that and finally realized that was what she was doing. Everything was to make sure Mack was okay. She would sacrifice everything for him just because she loved him. She always put him first and he always placed her last. But not anymore. Kaylynn knew she needed better.
