One-Shots (2014-2015 Season)

Sleeping On The Road

Jonathan Toews and the Blackhawks were on a 6-game road trip. As the plane lifted off, the news came in that Patrick Timothy Kane Jr would be out until the playoffs with his injury suffered in the Florida Panthers’ game.

Jonathan had been worried sick about him. He’d helped him off the ice that night, but he had hoped - like everyone around him - that Patrick wouldn’t be out so long. And all of the uncertainty had been reassuring at the time. They went through the normal post-game, pre-road trip routine, getting the bags to the plane and then boarding the aircraft.

And once the plane lifted off, Coach Q stood up and addressed everyone with the news. Halfway through his “just because we’ve lost Kaner, doesn't mean you give up and be miserable” speech, Jonathan’s phone buzzed. He saw a message from Patrick on the screen. It said, “Sorry about leaving you buddy...surgery went well, but...Jonny, don’t give up on me. Continue to play your best and I want you to get a hat trick of hat tricks. <3 Kaner”

Jonathan wasn’t one to be emotional, but Patrick was like a brother to him and his brother had been hurt. The generally tough captain couldn’t help but tear up and sniffle. Now they had to play six games on the road without him. How could they do that? How could he do it? Kaner was always there with him and for him. And now…

The plane ride was a long one and without Patrick there, he was forced to hang out with the others. But he wasn’t feeling the team bond. Instead, he just sat and took a nap until the plane finally touched down in the city of Vancouver, which was their first game and test without the one known as “Kaner.”

The plane finally touched down in the city and all the player disembarked. Jonathan grabbed his stuff silently and went to check into his room. He saw Patrick’s name and felt the tears come again to his eyes. Maybe he just needed a little sleep.

So he entered his room, dropped his stuff and laid down on the bed. Sleep didn’t come to him, so he walked over and instinctively opened the door that linked the two rooms, his and the one that should be Patrick’s. He peered into the empty room, but there was no Patrick Kane inside.

He hung his head low on his chest and trudged back to the bed and laid down in it once more. He felt the sleepiness hitting him a little bit better, but he looked at the door and into the empty hotel room. “Peeks?” he called out. There was no answer. He cleared his throat some and tried again, “Peeksy?” But there was still nothing. “Oh…”

He rolled over and turned away from the door. He sniffled and began to sob quietly to himself. He missed Patrick so much. They had always been in this together. And without Patrick, it just wasn’t the same. It was like how a parent felt after they finally let their child go off on their own. Jonathan knew Patrick would be coming back...but it would be at least two months until he returned.

Jonathan wiped his eyes finally and rolled back over in his bed. “Get better soon Peeks, please, I miss you so much and I can’t sleep...I need you’re comforting presence to be here with me...I love you Peeks...Peeksy...my Lil Peekaboo…” Jonathan touched his lips with two fingers, kissed them and then held his arm out toward the door. “Good night, Peeks.”

April 29, 2015

It was Jonathan’s 27th birthday. Though he was normally excited about the day and while it was true that Patrick was nearing a return and that the Hawks were killing it in the playoffs so far and had made it to the second round, he still wasn’t feeling the joy of the day. To makes matters worse, Patrick wasn’t going to see him at all. He’d made it through the months of not seeing his best friend, but he was done waiting. He had to see Patrick.

He angrily removed his practice jersey from his body and then took off his pads and other equipment and threw them down into his stall. He furiously yanked a simple “Blackhawks” fan shirt on.

As soon as he began fixing it in place, a voice startled him. “There’s no need to be so violent Jonny. Geez, lighten up.”

Jonathan whipped around and instantly smiled as his eyes met the familiar soft blue ones of his partner-in-crime. Patrick Kane stood leaning against the frame of the locker room door. He was grinning that cheeky sweet smile of his.

“PEEKS!!” Jonathan screamed and ran across the room to him. He threw his arms around the blond and squeezed him tightly, managing to somehow find the strength to lift him up, off the ground. He twirled him around in a circle as though Patrick were a princess and Jonathan was his prince.

“Jonny, geez, I didn’t know you were so attached to me!” Patrick chuckled.

“Don’t leave me alone again Kaner! Don’t you ever do that to me! I missed you too much!” Jonathan finally put him back down on the ground, but still kept his arms tightly around Patrick.

Jonathan was so caught up in his feelings that he didn’t even think. He just went for it. He leaned down and pressed his lips to Patrick’s. Patrick gasped in shock, but he didn’t fight the action.

(They remained hugging and kissing one another, until Patrick Sharp and Andrew Shaw walked into the room.

“OH!! YES!! FINALLY! Gosh, I was beginning to think you two would never do it!” Andrew sighed dramatically.

“Shawzy, down boy,” Patrick Sharp stated with a laugh.

Jonathan slowly parted from Patrick’s lips and turned to them. “Just cause I kissed Kaner, doesn’t mean that--”

“So you instigated it!?” Andrew interrupted. “Jonny, you dog!”

“Settle down, it was a one time thing. We missed each other, besides we’re brothers--” Patrick attempted to explain.

“From another mother!” Andrew retorted. “Give up, you two are madly in love with each other. You’ve been joined at the hip by the hockey gods. It means that you two are a couple and the NHL’s first gay couple at that!”

“We’re not gay, Shawzy!” Jonathan snapped.

“Ah, but the tongue I saw in winger’s mouth contradicts that!”

Jonathan looked at Patrick, who had done the same thing. They both gazed into one another’s eyes. It was true. Andrew Shaw was right. They did love each other...more than brothers. They couldn’t deny it...they were lovers!)

Notes

Aaaaaannnndddddd back to Kazer.
So, yeah this was a dream I had a few nights after Kaner's injury. I saw the alert pop up on my phone and I was shocked and also extremely worried for Tazer. The two of them really are joined together and inseparable. I mean even during the All-Stars Tourney, they still found each other and hung out and had a fun little rivalry. And they played with each other's hair during the draft...I'm serious guys Kazer is really. Whether or not there actually is a Kazer couple happening...we'll probably never know. (Mostly cause the Media and me would feed off of it like parasites.)
But come on, even I am not completely sold on homosexuality and yet Kazer I love. There is just something magical about these two and how they interact with one another. It's love. (Maybe it's really brotherly love...but it's still love) They love each other and to be honest I really think Jonny felt bad and cried for Kaner and he missed him a ton.
Oh and by the way, the expected time for Kaner's return is basically on Jonny's birthday, so just keep that in mind. :)
Anywho, hopefully you aren't tearing up or crying too hard, but I did when I woke up in the morning. The parenthesis mark the part I added, but the part above, that was all in my dream word-for-word, image-for-image, 100%.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it and let's get some more variety in these one-shots now...something new, something different...hmmmm... how about Zady?

Comments

These will run until the start of next season. So I'm thinking until the week before Pre-Season in September. I might get something from a dream or on Tumblr or from the Blackhawks Convention... ;)
