Prove Me Wrong.

The days after Christmas were a blur, the Stars picked their busy schedules back up after only 2 days off. Jamie's family had went back to Canada and I went back to work. Soon it would be the new year, and oh was it going to be a big and critical year. My mind wandered often to my future, to the one thing standing in my way of officially being Dr. Kieran O'Reilly and that day would be coming in April. Boards, the American Board of Veterinary Medicine the test I had to pass to become a licensed doctor and I was terrified for that day. In the coming months I know that I am going to have to buckle down and study until my brain is fried. I just hope Jamie is ready for that because my career is going to have to be above our relationship for a little while.

It's just a few days before New Year's Eve and my best friend Lauren is visiting from Arlington to ring in the new year. Lauren and I are so much alike it's scary aside from hair color we're the same, both 6'1 ex collegiate athletes just trying to become Vets. I've known her since I was 11 years old, we met through Texas Advantage volleyball club and have been inseparable ever since, we even signed our Texas A&M letters of intent together. We're best friends, sorority sisters, hell we might as well be blood sisters, she's the Cristina to my Meredith. If it weren't for her I would probably be in California kissing my dreams goodbye, while living in Ryan's shadows.

Lauren came to Dallas Tuesday morning, she wanted to make sure she would have plenty of time to get to know Jamie. And by get to know I mean interrogate. That girl should have went to law school because she's very intimidating, but she means well. After all she was by my side through the whole Ryan situation and she's just making sure Jamie isn't playing with me. Her first interaction with Jamie went something along the lines of, "I'm from Texas and I can shoot a gun better than half the guys I know. I let the last guy off easy, if you hurt her I'll see that you never play hockey again."

Jamie didn’t know whether to laugh or be scared, so he nodded along and swore to Lauren he wouldn’t hurt me. The mood lightened and Jamie passed the BFF test with flying colors, in fact I think she's now in love with my boyfriend. Lauren also got to meet Tyler before the game, I had to remind her to pick her jaw up off the floor when she saw him. He walked into my kitchen for dinner on Tuesday with a tight t-shirt on and basketball shorts and Lauren's eyes almost fell out of her head.

I shoved her, "Close your mouth Laur, his ego is already big enough." Her face reddened and Tyler smirked, "Shut up, Snap." she replied. I rolled my eyes at the nickname Snap, short for gingersnap I hated it but everyone called me Snap on our volleyball team. "Ty, this is Lauren." I introduced the tall brunette trying to break the ice. He slapped the lady killer smile on and walked over to her, "Nice to finally meet you," Lauren's face was 50 shades of red, "Uh, yeah you too." I wrapped my arm around her shoulders, waving Tyler off with my other hand "Alright go away Ty, your killing my best friend." When he left the kitchen Lauren let out a deep breath, "Good God. He's even more attractive in person." It was going to be a long couple of days keeping her from drooling on Tyler.

Eventually the awkward subsided between Lauren and Tyler, it was a kind of like déjà vu for me. Watching it happen in front of me made me realize just how bad Tyler must have felt being around Jamie and I in the beginning of our friendship. Thank God it all worked out, life with Jamie Benn is amazing.

During dinner Lauren felt the need to tell embarrassing stories from our teenage years to Jamie and Tyler, including an awful story from our Sophomore year of college spring break in Cabo. "Yeah Kier, we should definitely go back to Cabo sometime." was all she said and I was ready to kill her, "Lauren Eloise Ashbie, Don't you even talk about Mexico." Tyler laughed while raising his eyebrows, "I sense that there's a funny story there. Go on, Lauren." Jamie agreed and I put my head in my hands, trying to cover my red face. I took a deep, calming breath and decided it was my story to tell.

"There is no story for her to tell. I got drunk one night, very drunk, like ate the worm in the bottom of the tequila bottle drunk and they found me bare ass naked in the pool at 4 am singing Celine Dion. Completely normal behavior for spring break." I looked up from my hands as the 3 of them were laughing like hyenas, Lauren had tears rolling down her face and Tyler was snorting. Jamie was trying to pull it together covering his mouth with his large hand, just looking at them made me laugh at myself. "Wow, babe remind me not to give you tequila."

Lauren piped in, "Don't give her moonshine either unless you want her to sleep in the bathroom. However, Snap's very good at beer pong if you didn’t know." I shrugged my shoulders, "I am pretty good." I got out of my chair and clapped my hands together, "But, that's enough storytelling, and wild Kieran is long gone." I announced walking towards the kitchen.

I was throwing my plate into the sink when I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist, my nostrils were flooded with Jamie's cologne as he leaned his head on my shoulder burying his face in my hair. "So Cabo is out of the question for All-Star Break?" I could feel his warm breath on my neck as he spoke with a laugh, turning to face him I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. "Ehh, I'd rather not. And All-Star Break? You don't know if you're going or not yet" I questioned, "I'm pretty sure neither Tyler or I are going this year so we were thinking of going somewhere warm for the weekend." I nodded along, "Warm would be nice, but Cabo…" Jamie chuckled grabbing my hands and leading me to living room, "We'll find somewhere to go, anywhere with you will be fun, Snap."

I let out a groan, "Ugh, not you too Jame." I pouted sitting down on the couch, Jamie sat down next to me pulling me into his side, "It's better than Chubb's babe, I think it's cute." I giggled at the mention of his nickname, cupping his cheek "I think you're cute." as I leaned up to kiss him. Our kiss was interrupted by flying throw pillows and a unison of "Get a room" from our best friends. I felt my face heat up as we pulled apart, Jamie threw the pillow back at Tyler as he yelled "Shut up and play the movie Seguin." Aside from the embarrassing stories, it was a perfect night having the man I loved in my arms and my two best friends around was all I needed.
