'Kieran's POV'

Regular season and playoff Jamie has proven to be two completely different people. Yes, the Captain is pretty serious during the regular season with his training and focus but this past week he has become insanely serious and focused. The only thing we, and by we I mean Jamie, Tyler, and I because well those two are joined at the him, have watched on TV is game film. Watching the game live is enough for me but those two have rewatched the same plays over and over, and it's driving me nuts. I've taken to wearing headphones in the living room while I write out my packing list for Ireland, trying to drown out the screaming men.

Playoff games bounce back and forth between the two teams, so for the past week the boys have been back and forth from California. The Stars are struggling, they're down 2-0 in the series and I'm really nervous for them. I'm not sure how they're going to react if they get knocked out in the first round of playoffs. I mean they should be proud that they made it to the playoffs, it's been a long time since they've even made it this far but still I know if they lose it's not going to be pretty. Jamie's going to put it on all on himself and I'm going to have to be there for him, because that's what we said we would do. We said it, we didn’t promise it because apparently we can't do promises in this relationship. At least not yet.

It's a beautiful Saturday morning and I've stolen Marshall yet again for a run, soon enough I'll be taking Knox for strolls around the city. Jamie's at the rink and I suspect he'll be there all afternoon, the guys take on Anaheim again on Monday night and they must win to stay alive. He's stressing out and I'm giving him some space today, vowing to just hang around my apartment thinking maybe I will drive out to see my parents. I'll see him tomorrow for Sunday dinner at Tyler's. This all changed when I checked my mail after my run, finding an envelope from the American Board of Veterinary Medicine. My results were in.

My heart was beating uncontrollably fast, as I stared at the envelope in the elevator. After dropping Marshall at Tyler's I sat at the island in my kitchen tapping the paper on the marble trying to muster up the courage to open it. This felt like high school all over again waiting every day for letters that said Congrats! Or the dreaded rejection letters. I couldn’t do this alone, if the first words on that letter were "We regret to inform you," I was going to lose my shit and I could not be alone for that. Leaving the letter on the counter I went to shower, I needed to calm down and wait for Jamie to get home.

I showered, I cleaned my room, rearranged the living room furniture, and was now pacing through the apartment waiting on Jamie to at least answer my text message. If he didn’t answer in the next hour I was driving to Frisco and opening the damn envelope with the support of the whole team. 30 minutes later my phone finally beeped with a message from my boyfriend.

*Done with practice, guys are going to the driving range… What are you doing later?*

Of course, they would pick today to go freaking golfing!! I stared at the screen trying to decide what to say, I didn’t want to tell him that I was freaking out because so was he and he needed some time for fun.

*Let me know when you're home, I'm going to my parents…*

With that I left the envelope on the counter, grabbed my purse and left for the suburbs. I rolled all of the windows down and turned my radio up loud jamming out to Luke Bryan as I drove to my parent's house, singing along as I drove. Pulling into the driveway I noticed my dad's truck was gone and the windows were all black, my parents are always home! Where are they when you need a good distraction?

Pulling out my phone I dialed my mom, it rang a few times before she answered, and boy should I have called before I drove out here. They were in Houston, HOUSTON. They went to see Kilian and forgot to mention it to me, I huffed into the phone "Well have fun mom, I'm just sitting in your driveway.." I hung up with my parents and leaned against my Jeep, I'm sure my parents neighbors thought I was crazy. I had a key, but I didn’t really feel like sitting around in their house doing the same thing I was at my own place. And then I had an idea, the tree house.

I spent an hour sitting up in the old tree house, my feet dangling off the edge as I listened to the birds chirping music playing softly from my phones speakers. It was nice, just me and my thoughts, the old treehouse wasn’t as gross as anticipated. I sent Lauren a couple snapchats reminiscing of the last time we were in there together. Eventually I got hungry and climbed down, sometimes it was good to just be a kid again.

Driving back into the city I grabbed some food and went back to my place to wait for Jamie, his man date was taking way too long. By 7 I thought he had forgotten about me and I had changed into my "pajamas" consisting of Nike shorts and a crewneck. Laying upside down on the couch, my feet over the back and my head towards the ground I felt the familiar vibration on my stomach.

*Do you still want to come over?*

I read the message and jerked up, throwing shoes on and grabbing the letter. I was out the door and on the road in under 5 minutes not even bothering to respond.

Throwing the car into park I jumped out and practically jogged to the door, not even knocking I opened the door "BABE?!" I yelled kicking the Converse off as I looked around for Jamie. "Jesus, you scared me!" he answered from behind the refrigerator door. Me scare a big, bad hockey player? Wow, I felt accomplished. I smiled sheepishly, "Sorry, I'm just a little on edge." His eyebrows rose in question, "Why what's up?" he asked. I held up the envelope, his eyes widened "Is that your?" I nodded. "Holy shit, open it!!" If only it were that easy, "Jame, I'm scared. My future is in that envelope!"

Wrapping me in a hug he kissed my forehead, "Come on, we'll do it together." We made our way to the couch, I sat in Jamie's lap my back against his chest holding the envelope in my shaky hands. "You ready?" he asked, I swallowed "No, but I have to do this." Sliding my finger through the paper I tore it open, taking a deep breath I pulled out the folded sheet of paper. "Dear Miss Kieran M. O'Reilly," "I can't read it," I said dropping my head and closing my eyes.

Jamie snatched the paper from my hands reading it for me out loud, "Dear Miss Kieran Makayla O'Reilly, ahem that's you" he said poking me in the side, I giggled lightly as he continued "on behalf of the American Board of Veterinary Science we are pleased to congratulate you on your certification..." Bringing my hands to my face I covered my mouth to muffle the screams as tears rolled out of my eyes, "I did it!!" I yelled jumping out of Jamie's lap.

He hopped up watching as I danced around, mid victory dance he picked me up spinning me around in the living room, "I am so proud of you Kier!" he said placing me back on the floor before kissing me his hands holding onto my face. I opened my eyes, pulling back from his kiss "Oh my gosh, I have to call my parents!" Jamie laughed and let me go, as grabbed my phone squealing as it rang.

My parents and brother were thrilled and my mother was now planning a party for the day before I leave for Ireland. I called Lauren too, who had also gotten her letter of congrats and coincidently was in Dallas doing some of her own celebrating if you're catching my drift. Everything we had worked so hard for was here and we were officially doctors! When Lauren and I walk across the stage next Sunday for the second time it would all be over, our futures were now becoming our reality!
