Prove Me Wrong.
Conference Calls
'Kieran's POV'
Just about a week after the Gala I had Tyler and Jamie over for dinner before they left for a week-long roadtrip. The comfort level between Jamie and I was rising, and if I wasn’t mistaken there was a bit of flirting going on. Bumping into each other while he "helped" me cook, catching each other staring from across the table, making one another blush, it was happening and I wasn't complaining. I was cleaning up from dinner while Jamie sat at the island, upset because I wouldn’t let him help when my phone started ringing from the living room. Tyler held it up, "It's your mom," he said and I asked him to bring it to me.
Sliding it open and putting it on speakerphone I answered, "Hey Mama," I said, glad to talk to my mom. "Kieran Makayla why are you screaming?" She asked, I laughed, "Sorry, and you're on speakerphone Mom I didn’t know if you could hear me." "I am not deaf, and who's all there Kier?" "Jeez, sensitive much? And just Ty and Jamie." Tyler scoffed from beside Jamie, "Just us? She acts like she has other friends." I shot Tyler a dirty look as my mom spoke again, "Oh can they hear me? Hi Tyler!" "Yeah mom, and way to not say hi to Jamie" I couldn’t help but laugh at my mother, she and my dad had met Tyler twice and they already loved the poor kid. Tyler smiled, "Hey Mrs. O'Reilly" he said in a cheesy tone. "Oh, Tyler I told you to call me Renee! And hello Jamie I look forward to meeting you Kieran talks about you all the time." I felt my face heat up, she knew everything about the J&K situation.
Jamie smiled at me from across the island, "Hi, Uhh I look forward to meeting you too." I stole the conversation back from the two men who were melting my mom's heart, putting the phone up to my ear as I pulled myself to sit on top of the island in between Jamie and Tyler's seats. "Anyway mom, what's up?" "Oh right, um I was calling to see what time you would be here on Thanksgiving? Is 5 a good time to eat for you?" Crap, I thought I had forgotten that Thanksgiving was coming up! "Uhh yeah, 5's good for me. Kils is coming in on Tuesday right?" "Yeah he is, speaking of guests, am I still on speakerphone?" I told her no, "Well are Tyler and Jamie doing anything? Aren't they Canadian?" Wait do Canadian's even celebrate Thanksgiving ? I told her to hold on, turning to the boys who were playing on their phones. "Do you guys even celebrate Thanksgiving?"
This apparently was a dumb question, because I had never even heard such loud laughter come from the two guys on either side of me, I'm pretty sure Tyler even snorted at one point. As Tyler couldn’t contain himself, Jamie spoke with a huge grin on his face, "As Canadians we have our own Thanksgiving which was last month, so no we do not partake in your American Thanksgiving..." I nodded along, and felt like a complete dumbass. "Apparently they have their own Thanksgiving, who knew?" I said laughing into the receiver, "Huh," my mom said with a chuckle, "Well if they don't have other plans tell them we would love to have them at our house for dinner."
Curse my mother and her southern hospitality, "Alright, let me ask dumb and dumber" Using those nicknames I was met with a unison "Hey!" from the pair of hockey players sitting in my kitchen, "Shut up, would you two Canadian nightmares like to have Thanksgiving with my family?" Jamie looked at Tyler, Tyler shrugged "I'm in your mom's a really good cook." I looked at Jamie, "Jame?" I asked, "Yeah sure." he responded. "Add two to the list mom." I said with a smile, Thanksgiving was going to be fun this year, I mean what could go wrong when you bring home two NHL players?
We spent the rest of the night watching at my request, a Harry Potter movie that was playing on ABC Family, Tyler complained but Jamie was a trooper. It had become customary that Jamie and I share the long grey couch in the middle of my living room while Ty lounged on the yellow loveseat. There wasn’t any cuddling as Jamie's head was at one end and mine at the other, with only our legs were intertwined, both of us at over 6 feet we needed to be able to stretch out. Being around Jamie was relaxing, he was always there to talk to me during commercials or distract me when I had had enough studying or even quizzing me for my boards even if the information made his brain hurt. I found myself wanting to be around Jamie more and more each time we hung out.
