Holly POV

The first week with Jamie at home was fun and relaxing, something similar to summer vacation but then he started getting restless.
“Jamie go to the gym and work out or something, you’re driving me crazy” I said one afternoon as I was starting to make supper. Jamie had been hovering around me all day, he was on the search for our copy of ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and trying to organize doctor’s appointments and he was driving me crazy.
“I already went for my workout,” he answered with a big grin. I let out a laugh and went back to my cooking. Jamie found the book and took a seat at the counter in the kitchen with it and started to flip through it. “You have an appointment tomorrow” Jamie said as a reminder as I started to set the table.
“Yes I know,” I said with a laugh, “are you coming to this one again?” I said recalling the memory of the first appointment we had when we got back from the road trip. Jamie took over the appointment from the moment we walked in, telling the doctor about my medical history and complications from our last pregnancy and asking questions about things I didn’t even consider.
“You bet I am, already have my list of questions,” he said with a smile, not looking up from his book. I shook my head and went back to finishing dinner.

“Haven’t had supper just the two of us in a while” I said once we sat down to eat. It was true, there always seemed to be someone else, maybe Jordie or Ty over for supper. I had forgotten what it was like to be the two of us.
“I know, well technically it’s not just the two of us” Jamie said as he gave my tummy a little rub. “Speaking of, Holly there’s something I think we need to talk about” Jamie said taking a serious note.
“What’s on your mind?” I said looking at his face. I was scanning for anything that might give me a hint at where this is going.
“I don’ know how to word this Holly give me a minute” he said scratching the back of his head.
“Jamie you’re scaring me” I said and it was true, my heart felt like it was stuck in my throat.
“Holly I was just wonder, I’m off for another week or so and then I go back into the season and I won’t be around to help much, to prepare much. I just wanted to know what you wanted to do about the nursery. I don’t want you to think that I’m replacing Jacob or that I want to paint over him or something like that but I don’t want our child to feel like he’s or she’s a replacement and I’ve been thinking about it a lot-“
“Jamie” I said cutting him off “ I think you’re right”
“What?”
“We should paint the nursery,” I said while pushing one of the potatoes around my plate. “I’ve been thinking about it too Jamie and we need, I need to move on in life. I will always love Jacob but I need to live for my new child.” I said grabbing his free hand.
“Ty and Jordie said they would come help, I’m gonna go to practice tomorrow before the appoitnmet, maybe they’ll be able to come after” Jamie said taking a bite of food and I knew all was well. We finished dinner and went to cuddle on the couch to watch the game, well we started cuddling but about 2 minutes in and Jamie was pacing and sitting on the edge of his seat yelling at everyone as if they could hear him. It was good to have him home but we were both dying for him to get back on the ice.

I could feel his lack of presence before I let my hand roam to the other side of the bed. Without looking at the clock I knew it was late but not early enough for him to be leaving for practice. I opened my eyes letting them adjust slowly till they could see his silhouette gazing out the window.
“Come back to bed” I begged, my voice barely a whisper.
“Sorry if I woke you” he laughed as he slowly moved his way back to me. We slid into our position; my head on his chest with one leg draped on his waist and one of his hands playing with my hair.
“What were you thinking about?” I asked as I listened to the steady beat of his heart.
“Just how happy I am” he said while twirling a piece of my hair between his fingers. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, I was happy too.
