Never Let Go.

‘Kieran’s POV’

Semi-married life has brought a lot of changes to our holiday schedule. Jamie’s parents and sister still come in each year to celebrate but they hang out at the house while we visit my family, which now only consists of my brother every other year. Since Kilian’s new wife is from Houston and her family is there they split their holidays down the middle. Thanksgiving with her family and Christmas with mine vice versa the following year. With Jamie’s family living in a different country this probably won’t become a problem until Jamie retires which won’t be for a while I assume.

This Christmas became a special one for two reasons, 1. It’s my last one not being married and for 2. I found out that I am going to be an Aunt! While gathered around the tree opening our gifts Morgan and Kilian handed out small boxes to my parents and me, they counted to three before letting us open them. Inside my box was a small pink card with a stork on it that read “Freak out you’re going to be an aunt!” And freak out I did! I jumped from the couch and screamed as my mom was crying and dad was hugging Kilian. I was ecstatic for my big brother on his new journey, he was going to be a great dad.

After the initial shock wore off and I had hugged my brother and Morgan, as well as introduced myself to the little peanut inside Morgan’s belly we all went about normal Christmas routines. My mom was still gushing as she finished dinner, and my dad was in the process of skyping our grandparents in Ireland to share the good news when the new parents pulled Jamie and I aside.

‘Jamie’s POV’

The look on Kieran’s face when she found out she was going to be an aunt was amazing, her smile was large and genuine a few happy tears rolled down her face. She loved her brother and knew that he was going to be an amazing dad. I too was a little excited finding out that there will be a new addition to the family, marrying Kieran meant that I was also going to be an Uncle! How cool is that? This little human is going to look up to me, and I’ll make sure to be the cool uncle no doubt.

As the older adults finished dinner and gushed about being grandparents, Morgan and Kilian pulled Kieran and I into the dining room. We all sat down and Kilian looked between Kieran and I as he held his wives hand. “So I know we just told you guys, but Morgan's 3 months along already and we’ve been thinking about all the logistics..” The dark haired girl next to him smiled a hand resting on her stomach, “What Ki is trying to get at is we’d like you guys to be the Godparents. We know you guys have busy schedules but I don’t have any siblings and,” Kieran was crying again as she stopped her sister-in-law, “Absolutely! Of course we will! Right Jamie? YES.”

I was in shock. Godparents? That’s a huge deal in the Catholic Church, the religion the O’Reilly’s affiliated with, but if Morgan and Kilian wanted us to be then of course we would do it.“Ye-Yeah,” I stumbled out, “Of course, that’s such an honor.” Kieran stood and embraced Morgan and Kilian, I followed suit with a bro-hug for my soon to be brother-in-law and a squeeze for Morgan.

After dinner and figuring out a time to meet with a lawyer to set up the actual godparent agreement Kieran I headed back to our house to finish out Christmas with my parents. We announced the news of our godparent-hood to my parents before curling up with a fire ablaze in our pajamas. Knox was snoring at our feet and Kieran was half asleep on my chest as Elf played on the TV.

I ran my fingers through the curls on Kieran’s head “I can’t wait to tell people that we’re having kids, you’re going to be a great mom babe.” She moved a little, muffled sounds falling from her lips as she kissed my bare chest “You’ll be an even better daddy Jame.” And with that she fell asleep and for now I had my whole world in one room, but I couldn’t help but think about Christmas in the future. Kids running around with the idea of Santa in their heads, it was going to be amazing and I wanted it all with Kieran.
