‘Kieran’s POV’

I’ve decided that I live in a horrible romantic comedy. Or that I’m being punked, and if that’s the case Ashton Kutcher can come out now because this isn’t funny. My house is terrifyingly quiet, there’s no talking, barely any eye contact, and absolutely no love happening right now. We are broken, and I don’t know how to fix it. Everything exploded so fast I’m not sure if I can even pick all the pieces back up, and I sure as hell know I’m not doing it alone. This mess isn’t even all my fault, I guess the green eyed monster gets the best of us all sometimes.

*24 hours earlier*
The Stars had just won in a shutout over Montreal and that called for a celebration considering it’s a Saturday night. So here we all are, over half the team, WAGs, and some other friends taking over the top part of a lounge in downtown Dallas. Lauren and I had busted out some pretty awesome outfits for the occasion and were feeling good on our second round of Jack and Cokes. The guys were having a good time chirping each other and talking about how well they had just played, everything was going great.

Over the ledge from the VIP level to the bottom I spotted two familiar faces, a couple guys Lauren and I had went to college with. I nudged her, “Look down there, is that Mac and Deacon?” she scanned the crowd and gasped. “We have to go talk to them! I've missed Mac!!” I gigged and agreed, in my state of mind it sounded great! I pushed off the thoughts that the two boys couldn’t be far from their third musketeer, Ryan.

Arm in arm Lauren and I skipped down the stairs to the main level finding the boys with ease, throwing an arm over an unsuspecting Mackenzie Rogers I called out over the blaring music. “Mackenzie Rogers does your fiancé know you’re out in Dally?” The tall ex-baseball player spun around a grin panning out over his face, “Hot damn, if ain’t Mrs. Dallas herself!” He wrapped me up in a hug and I smiled.

“Nice to see you too Mac,” Lauren and I caught up with Mackenzie, who had brought his two best friends to town to watch the Stars game for a little bachelor party. Eventually he went off to get another drink leaving us with Deacon. Deac is Ryan’s best friend, well was I’m not really sure where they stand these days. “How’s the law firm Deac?” I asked the tan, blonde haired farmer’s son. He shrugged, “Should have just went into the family business.” I shook my head as Lauren shoved his shoulder, he was brilliant but never gave himself enough credit. “I need another drink,” Lauren said swishing the ice in her empty cup leaving just Deacon and I alone for the first time in almost 6 years. 6 years since the incident, or rather the mistake.

I looked down at the dark liquid in my cup taking a big gulp before looking back at the man who had been my accomplice in getting back at Ryan. “He’s here somewhere Kier, took off after some short skirt as soon as we walked in the door.” Of course he had, I thought he hadn’t changed a bit. “Imagine that,” I scoffed, “Ryan Clarke will never change.” I watched as Deacon’s eyes panned to the side as if signally me to look over, and when I did my heart nearly stopped beating meeting a pair of green eyes I hadn’t seen in years.

‘Jamie’s POV’

When Kieran and Lauren took off downstairs I thought nothing of it, they were tipsy and they probably wanted to dance. So I continued to talk with the team throwing back another beer, after all this was a party. Time passed and they never came back, so I took to looking over the balcony trying to spot the two long legged girls. My eyes panned the dance floor and found them talking to a few guys, I didn’t know them but it looked like they did. One guy left leaving the two girls with the shorter of the two men, when Lauren stepped away I started to get a little concerned. Kieran continued to talk to the guy but the conversation looked more serious, when another body appeared with a face I had seen before I knew I needed to get down there.

By the time I reached the group words were flying. The two ex’s hadn’t seen each other in four years and that was something Kieran loved. But standing face to face had apparently rekindled their last argument. I only caught snippets of the conversation chunks of sentences rolled through my head as I tried to piece it together, “slept with him”, “my best friend”, “slut”, “gold digger” and “3 years”. All of it was confusing me and it all stopped when I stood beside my fiancé.

Wrapping my arm around her waist I asked if she was okay, she clearly wasn’t but that was all I had at the moment. “Been better,” she said before pointing to the blonde “Jamie this is Deacon, we went to school together. Deac this is my fiancé Jamie.” “Nice to meet you, great game by the way.” The guy spoke with a thick Texas accent, I shook his hand and thanked him before looking at the man I knew had Kieran scared to death being that close. “Uhh, and uh this is Ryan, m-my ex.” We both stared at one another but neither of us reached out to shake hands.

Awkward silence stood for a few seconds before he spoke up, “Congrats on getting her to marry you Jamie, she’s not usually one for supporting others for the long term.” If looks could kill Ryan Clarke would be dead, he had just set off a fuse in my fiancé I had never seen before.
“Excuse me?” Kieran scoffed turning to look at him, “You left me, after 3 years Ryan” she pointed between the two of them for emphasis. The brunette smirked “You’re damn right I did, I couldn’t be with someone that thought animals were more important than my actual medical career.”

Kieran’s mouth was wide open and her hand was clutching the plastic cup in her hand for dear life, “6 years and you are still the biggest ass I have ever met, fuck you Ryan.” The cocky bastard wagged his eyebrows as he chuckled, “You already have Kier, or did you like fucking my best friend more?” A gasp came from Kieran’s mouth as my head whipped from looking at Ryan to Kieran, then to Deacon who was just as appalled as I.

“Dude, come on let it go.” Deacon pleaded as Ryan shook his head, “I forgive you dude, but not her that was low even for her slutty sorority girl ways.” Before I could say anything the firecracker in Kieran came out and she shoved his chest towards the wall. “You don’t get to call me a slut, you broke my heart and left the state like a coward. The only way to get back at you was to use him, your best friend who just so you know jumped at the chance to sleep with me.” I stood there hands in my pockets as the anger built inside me, she had never told me about this part of her breakup. It was something I would have liked to know about the girl I was set to marry, I watched as the screaming match continued, and I was thankful we were in a dark corner of the bar and not many people had seen who we were.

When I had heard enough I attempted to pull her away, “Kier stop” I yelled but she continued to go at it. “Get your whore off me,” one more tug and separated Kieran from the asshole. He tried to stand up straight but I gave him a little push, “I’d love to beat the shit out of you right here, right now for that but I’d like to keep my captaincy. So I’m just going to leave you with this, STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM HER.” He just laughed in my face, “Trust me bud, I was done with her a long time ago.” I shook my head, looking back at Kieran who was now crying and being held by Lauren while Tyler and Cody stood back taking in the show.

Lauren let go of Kieran and she looked at me knowing I needed an explanation and that I wasn’t too happy with the whole situation that had just played out. With no words she followed me out of the club and into a cab headed for home. Silence filled the entire ride until our feet hit the pavement of the driveway, with toes on solid ground the battle field was live once again.

Notes

Aww did we think Ryan was never going to reappear? Looks like Kieran's got some explaining to do about her dirty little secret ;) Will there still be a happy ever after? xoxo -Ally
