A Second Chance at Love

The ride to the hospital was pure insanity. I called my mom who was trying to book the quickest flight into the area. I also called Raina's sister, Lavy, my agent and Sylvie. Claude was driving as if she was going to give birth in the car and Mike sat silently beside him. Raina was the picture of calm, her head leaning on my shoulder. "You guys are hysterical. I am barely having any contractions." I handed the phone to her so she could call Max. "Maxime, you are going to be an uncle again today. Win tonight so you can come see them soon. Love ya" she said, leaving him a message.

We pulled up to the hospital. The nurse just laughed as we checked in and the crowd grew. Jeff, Pam and Andrej had met us there. "Ok, family, we have a waiting room upstairs. We will come and let you know as soon as they are put into a room." The nurse gave directions like a drill sergeant.

Raina let out a sigh and gave hugs to each of the boys. "I love you guys."

Caelan looked really concerned. He pulled her into a hug. "Take care Rainy and I hope you aren't too sore." She kissed him on the forehead and told him she would see him in a little while.

The group headed towards the elevator and we were put into a room where she was given an IV. "So mommy, you ready for this?" I asked kissing her on the forehead.

She nodded. "I'm nervous Danny." She reached for my hand and closed her eyes.

Her doctor came in a few minutes later. "You ready Raina? Couldn't have timed this better for Danny" he commented reviewing her chart.

He had me change into scrubs. Raina pouted as he gave her a cap that resembled a shower cap. I took a quick picture and sent it to Mike. They gave us a minute alone before they took her back to the operating room. "Raina I love you. Everything will be fine. I will see you in a few minutes ok." I gave her a kiss and let the Dr. know she was ready. I stood outside the room and watched them take her into the operating room saying a quick prayer everything would go well.

They had me outside of the OR and I could hear her curse loudly. The nurse look at me and told me she was getting a spinal block. I felt so horrible to hear her in pain. They finally let me into the room. She was shivering as I sat down beside her. I rubber her forehead and told her I loved her.

"Je t'aime aussi. Je sais que vous êtes la seule personne pour me." she said smiling. My mouth dropped open. To say I was surprised was an understatement.

"How" I asked her as she kissed my hand.

"Well, I had Mike get the CDs for me the first week I was on bed rest, but I was struggling doing it by myself. I tried to get Max to help me but he laughed at my Philly accent and just distracted me. But his teammate is the best. Honey Rosetta Stone ain't got nothing on Kristopher Letang. He was really helpful. Wouldn't even let me speak English with him after two weeks. It's a work in progress, but now you can help me. The boys have already started teaching Ryan."

I won't say I wasn't completely amazed by her. The fact that she took all of her free time just to do something for me was mind blowing. She knew it meant a lot for me to have the boys fluent in the language. I just held her face lovingly as she grimaced from all of the pressure and we heard that first tiny little cry.

"Congrats you two. Your son is beautiful and annoyed. I guess he was comfy in his mama." The nurse commented as she weighed our wailing son. A few minutes later our daughter made her silent entrance into the world. We started to worry a little because she made little to no noise.

The doctor quickly dismissed the worries. "She is perfect. You have a rather content little one."

Raina smiled and kissed me. "Tout comme son père.." she commented. The Doctor confirmed we were OK with the tubal litigation. He asked if we wanted them tied or burnt as well. We both said "burnt" and the entire room cracked up.

They finally handed me the babies and I knew my world was complete. The nurse filled out the birth certificates and left their names blank. We would do that once Raina came out of the OR. Raina looked at me and said "I love you three" softly before falling asleep.

The nurse directed me out of the room and towards the nursery, where the NICU doctors had given the babies a clean bill of health. I took pics and sent them to my entire phonebook I was so happy. I texted Mike to let everyone know we would be in a room soon and just sat and stared at the two lives we had created.
