You Make Me Want To

03: Lonely Eyes

"One thing I definitely missed about this place," Addie announced as she stepped out of the airport. "How much warmer it is here than in Toronto."

Paisley nodded then set her bags down. "I'll go pick up my car." She exhaled as she crossed the street.

Addie checked her phone as she waited for Paisley to pick her car from where it was parked. Addie had suggested to just cab to the airport but Paisley had to be difficult. Addie sighed. She knew it would take forever for Paisley to get over to her car. And then it would take even longer for her to drive over. Addie took a seat on the curb.

She squinted up as a car pulled in front of her. It wasn't Paisley's car. Addie felt nervous. She slowly stood up. She tried to stare into the window, but they were tinted. The window began to roll down. Addie growled when she saw Tyler's big mouth grinning at her. He looked over his sunglasses at her from his driver's seat.

"What's going on?" He sang.

"Are you following me?" She crossed her arms.

"Uh, you were supposed to be home two days ago." He pointed out. "I was scheduled to come in today all along."

She rolled her eyes. "Whatever. How'd your game go?" She leaned against his car.

"Lost five to two but I got a goal." He shrugged. "Jamie had a really bad three games."

"Yeah?" She challenged.

"He was a minus three." He frowned.

"Maybe you should take him out so he can forget about it." She suggested, seeing Paisley's car pull up.

"Maybe you should give him a call. That would help." He hummed.

"What?" She furrowed her brows.

"Nothing. What game do you want tickets to?" He changed the subject.

She narrowed her eyes at him. He was being sketchy. "What games are coming up?" She asked.

"Montreal's in town tomorrow." He suggested.

"Cool. Sounds like a plan." She nodded, picking up her bags.

"Hey, do you wanna do dinner after the game?" He called. He saw her face turn. "Not like a date!"

"Oh, thank god." She breathed.

"Not like a date. I meant like you and Paisley with some of the boys and I." He clarified.

"Okay, yeah. Definitely." She smiled. "See you tomorrow."

Tyler drove off. Addie shook her head. He was too much all the time, even when he was being nice. She tossed her things into Paisley trunk, as well as Paisley's. She climbed into the front seat. Paisley began driving. She was quiet for the first bit.

"Who was in the car?" She asked.

Addie knew that was coming. "Tyler. We're going to the game tomorrow and then out for dinner with some of the team."

"Is Val gonna be there?" Paisley chewed on her lip. Addie stared at her in confusion. "Tall, buff, and Russian."

"I would guess." Addie shrugged.

"Okay, cool." Paisley smiled a bit as her eyes stayed on the road.

"Paisley," Addie dragged out her name. "Do you like Val?"

Paisley shook her head. "He's just so hot." She sighed. "I might cry if he doesn't come and I have to settle for Ty."

"Tyler's cute." Addie argued.

"But he's your ex." Paisley stated. "Tyler may be your type but he's not mine."

"What? What is my type, Paisley?" Addie spat.

"Asshole, party boy, fuck boy, douchebag, egotistical,"

"Okay. Your track record isn't that good either." Addie cut her off.

"Regardless, Val seems kinda different." Paisley shrugged.

"Okay, weirdo." Addie rolled her eyes.

"Did anyone on the team intrigue you?" Paisley asked.

"No."

"Not even cute Cody?" Paisley smiled.

"Who?" Addie questioned.

"The ginger." Paisley shook her head.

"I don't know half their names. I remember four of them." Addie confessed.

"Which four?"

"The Brothers and the Jasons." Addie recalled.

"Jason Spezza is so hot, come on." Paisley gawked.

"He's balding." Addie grimaced.

"What about Demers?" Paisley pried.

"Could never find anyone that's called 'Daddy' intriguing." Addie gagged. "Either I'm the only one calling you that or nothing."

"I can't believe he was Logan's teammate." Paisley made a face of disgust.

"I can't believe you hooked up with Logan Couture." Addie laughed.

"Shut up." Paisley shoved her. "What about Jordie? He has that whole 'rustic' look you're into."

"He looks like he's in a motorcycle gang, nor 'rustic'." Addie corrected. "And he's really nice but I'm not feeling it."

"Okay, so Jamie?" Paisley cocked a brow, looking over at Addie.

Addie made a face as she tilted her head side to side. "He's the most promising but I'm breaking that promise." She stated. Paisley growled. "I'm not interested in dating a hockey player. Definitely not Tyler's best friend either."

"Impossible." Paisley spat as she turned a corner.

"What?" Addie hissed.

"You're just impossible! You act like no one is good enough for you!" Paisley hollered.

"I don't need to be with someone, Paisley! I'm fine with how I am!" Addie was getting worked up.

Paisley slammed on the breaks. "You're not! I know you're not! I know you're always upset!"

"I am not always upset." Addie breathed. "And being with someone isn't what I need to feel better. That's not a priority of mine."

"I wasn't saying that's what you need, Addie. It just wouldn't hurt you to open up to someone." Paisley sighed, driving again.

"Maybe it wouldn't but it doesn't have to be a hockey player." Addie pointed out.

"Whatever." Paisley shook her head.

When the pair got home, they went up to their apartments. They didn't talk at all. They didn't argue often, but when they did, they just didn't talk. Addie started unpacking before she realized she had left a bag in Paisley's car. She let out a growl. It wasn't like Paisley lived far, just across the hall. Addie walked over and knocked. Paisley opened with the keys dangling. Addie smirked and took them.

Addie was athletic, but no one wanted to take the stairs from the nineteenth floor. She clicked the elevator button. She played with Paisley's key while she waited. The doors opened and Addie's eyes widened. Jamie looked up from his phone. He smiled at her. He stepped out of the elevator, holding the doors with his hand. He had a suitcase in his other hand.

"What are you doing here?" He chuckled.

"I live here." She replied. "What about you?"

"I live here too!" He furrowed his brows. "On this floor?"

She nodded. "1903." She pointed.

"I'm right next to you." He shook his head.

"How have I never seen you here before?" She was so confused.

"I'm never home." He shrugged. "I don't want to keep you from wherever you're going,"

"No, it's fine. I'm just going to grab something I forgot in the car." She said, waving it off. "But you look tired so I'll leave you."

He smiled, letting go of the elevator. "Nice talking to you, Addison." He waved as he walked off.

She stepped on it. Jamie was really friendly. And cute. And just nice overall. She started thinking about what Paisley had said. It wouldn't hurt Addie to open up to people. She stood in the elevator as the doors closed. She stopped the doors, poking her head out of the doors. Jamie was at his door.

"Hey, Jamie!" She called. He looked over. "How do you feel about hanging out sometime?"

His face broke into a grin, his dimples full blown. "Definitely. I'll get your number off Tyler."

She nodded with a smile. He waved and stepped into his apartment. She let go of the doors. They closed and started to go down. She smiled and took a deep breath. What the fuck had she just done?
