You Make Me Want To

04: We Are Tonight

Paisley watched her friend in concern as she paced. Addie had barged into Paisley's apartment, threw her bag, threw Paisley her keys, and had paced in silence since. She wanted to question it but knew Addie could only stay quiet for so long. Addie took a deep breath and stopped. She turned to face Paisley. She moved her hand from her mouth.

"I did something." She spoke. "Something totally out of character for me."

"Yes, and that was?" Paisley questioned.

"I asked Jamie to hang out." Addie threw out her hands.

"What? When?" Paisley sat up, intrigued.

"He was getting off the elevator when I was getting on it. We started talking and then I just asked." Addie whined and dropped onto the couch. Her phone buzzed. She checked it. "He got my number from Tyler."

"Why was Jamie here?" Paisley backtracked.

"He lives in 1901." Addie said, sprawling out. "He was just staring at me with those puppy dog eyes and dimples and I just,"

"Jamie's cute though. This is good. What did he text you?" Paisley scooted over to look at the message.

Addie lifted her phone up. He told her who it was before he asked if she was busy tonight. She groaned. Paisley was grinning. Addie unlocked her phone. She added him as a contact and just stared at the message. She took a deep breath. She told him she wasn't and asked what he had in mind. He offered dinner at his place.

"This is moving too fast." She shook her head, locking her phone.

"What? He asked to make you dinner, not for your hand in marriage." Paisley laughed.

"That's next." Addie breathed.

"Oh, Addie." Paisley dragged out as she stood up. "Just give the guy a chance. He seems like an overall decent guy."

"I know! That's why I'm scared!" Addie cried, sitting up and hugging her knees into her chest. "I should stick to my type."

"No, you shouldn't. Change is good sometimes." Paisley smacked her knee. "If he agreed to hanging out with you when you look like this, imagine how he's gonna act when we get you dolled up."

"How dolled up?" Addie frowned.

"Nicely dolled up. Not, like, gala dolled up." Paisley clarified. "Come on." She yanked on Addie's wrist.

Addie slumped behind. She grabbed her bag as Paisley guided her across the hall. Addie took her bag into her bedroom while Paisley sat in the living room. She waved Addie's phone at her. Addie reached for it as she walked over. She unlocked it and took a deep breath as she looked over the message. She looked up at Paisley.

"What do I say?" She asked.

Paisley rolled her eyes. "Ask him what time you should be over."

Addie did as told. She walked into the washroom and locked the door. She waited for a reply, sitting on the side of her tub, naked. She decided to send Vanessa a text about it. Vanessa was her and Paisley's other best friend from Brampton. She was going to university in Toronto, her hopes set high on becoming a lawyer. She didn't have much free time outside of that. Addie's phone lit up. It was Vanessa calling.

"Hello?" Addie bit her lip.

"You asked a boy out?" Vanessa exclaimed.

"Uh, yeah. I'm going over to his apartment tonight." Addie told her. There was some banging and an 'ouch'. "Ness, you okay?"

"Yeah, I just spilled my drink on myself." Vanessa sighed. Typical. "I was so fucking shocked by you that I jumped up. Who is he?"

"Uh, he's Tyler's teammate. I guess they're pretty close. He lives next door to me and he's so cute." Addie rambled on.

"Okay, which teammate?" Vanessa growled.

"Jamie." Addie smiled.

"Jamie?" Vanessa gasped. There was more noise in the background. "Like Jamie Benn? The fucking captain?"

"Yeah."

"Oh my god, Addison!" She screamed. "I need the full details when you're done! I can't believe this."

"Of course. I'm gonna shower and get ready though so I'll call you after it." Addie breathed slowly.

"Do not be nervous and do not pussy out. From what I've read, Jamie's a good person." Vanessa stated.

"You've been reading about him? For how long?" Addie yelped.

"Only since Paisley texted me like five minutes before you did." Vanessa chimed.

"So you fucking knew?" Addie growled.

"Yes, go shower." Vanessa instructed.

Addie shook her head and hung up. Her friends were assholes. She let the water heat up and climbed in. As she pulled the curtain shut, her phone buzzed. She sighed and reached out for it. Jamie had replied. He told her seven thirty. She said she'd be there to which he replied he couldn't wait. Addie felt stupid for being giddy. She barely knew him.

She finished her shower and dried off. She put on her robe before she walked into her living room. Paisley was on the phone. Addie hid so she could eavesdrop. She listened. Paisley was just nodding and saying things in agreement. Someone must have been talking to her. Paisley rolled a bit, finding a better position.

"But he is a good guy?" Paisley spoke. She nodded her head a bit. "I just want to make sure before I tell Addie to go for him, you know?" There was silence before Paisley made a noise. "Never? He's never had a long term relationship?" She went quiet again. "Okay, before your twenties doesn't count." She laughed. "Yeah, your's and Addie's relationship is just a myth." Paisley teased. Addie furrowed her brows. "Okay, fine. Anything before his career doesn't count. Junior and up." Paisley stated. "So he's never had one."

Addie walked out of the bathroom at this point. She knew who she was talking to and what they were talking about. Paisley looked at her and shot up. Addie walked into the kitchen to grab a drink. Paisley was still talking.

"But you think they'll be good together?" Paisley whispered. Addie stopped what she was doing to listen. "Me too. Addie deserves a good guy. But she's out now so I'll talk to you after."

Addie rolled her eyes. "Pais, want something to drink?" She called.

"No," Paisley came into the kitchen. "What time did he say?"

"I have two hours." Addie said, turning to face Paisley. "What if I'm embarrassing?"

"Why would you be embarrassing?" Paisley frowned.

"What if I snort while laughing or spit my drink everywhere or just ramble on like I'm doing right now?" Addie took a deep breath.

"Then he'll get to know your little quirks." Paisley shrugged. "Now, let's get you ready. Two hours isn't a lot of time."

Addie followed Paisley to her bedroom. Paisley was already going through Addie’s clothes. Addie set up her vanity. She barely used it. Well, she did, but not how Paisley made her. She would throw on some foundation, powder, bronzer, and mascara, and call it a day. Paisley made her turn her lighting to a certain setting and pull out all the make up she had. She also pulled out her curler, straightener, and all other hair utensils or products. Paisley laid an outfit onto Addie’s bed and walked over.

“Are you ready for the transformation, Ad?” Paisley asked as she ran her fingers through Addie’s soaking wet hair.

Addie shrugged. “I’m never ready but you never fail to amaze me.” She grinned.

Paisley started with blow drying Addie’s hair. Addie just sat on her phone. She was texting her friends about nothing and even taking snapchats. Paisley was too in the zone to notice she was in most of the snapchats. Tyler snapped her back. He had an arm around a miserable Val and the text said ‘National Dog Day’. Addie laughed and lifted it so Paisley could see. Paisley shook her head. Addie pulled her phone back down and took a snap of her smiling with Paisley in the top. She captioned it the same thing.

“I swear to god, Addison, take one more snapchat of me while I’m doing you a favour.” Paisley warned.

“I can do it myself!” Addie argued.

“But you won’t look as good as if I do it.” Paisley stated. She wasn’t wrong.

Addie rolled her eyes and looked back to her phone. Tyler had sent her another snapchat. She opened it and it was a selfie of him and Val. They were both grinning. The text across it made her growl. It said ‘getting ready for your date with Big Bennie?’ with a wink emoji. She sent him a picture of her giving him the finger. He replied with him and Val blowing her kisses. She could only imagine the amount of taunting Jamie was getting. She kinda felt bad.

Paisley made Addie put on the shirt she would be wearing then finished Addie’s hair by curling it. She stood in front of her friend and played with the curls. She noticed the look on her face but ignored it. She started on Addie’s make up. Addie put on some music to take them out of the silence. Paisley sang along as she painted on her friend’s face. She didn’t actually paint it on, Addie didn’t take much to look good. She sighed, pulling her hands away.

“What is wrong?” She crossed her arms.

“Tyler keeps teasing me about Jamie. I can only imagine what’s being said to him.” Addie frowned.

“Addie, he clearly doesn’t care.” Paisley shook her head and went back to doing Addie’s make up. “If it was bothering him, he would’ve said something to you about it and he didn’t. Stop stressing out.”

Addie nodded. Paisley was right again. Paisley was usually right when it came to Addie’s freak outs. Usually, Paisley was the one freaking out and Addie had to come her. This was a rare occurrence. Paisley looked over Addie’s make up. She started looking between Addie’s face and the make up spread across the vanity. She decided on what she was doing. Addie endured five more minutes of make up before declared done by Paisley and sent to get dressed. She slid on her jeans and shoes and was ready.
