Flying Home

Four

Jon glances at his watch for what seems like the millionth time. Maddie was supposed to meet him at seven at this fancy restaurant he had picked out for them. She said she had to work so she would meet him there instead of heading home first and driving together. Why hadn't he talked her into that? Then at least he wouldn't have to publicly suffer the humiliation of being stood up.

The waitress gives him a sympathetic look as he sighs. He take a final swig of the beer he had ordered after the second hour and places it next to the other empty beer glass. The waitress walks over and hands him the bill. He places a twenty in the black folder and stands up and heads to the valet.

His SUV pulls up to the curb and he climbs in and immediately heads for home. The traffic is light and it only takes him about fifteen minutes to get home. When he pulls into his parking spot in the garage, he notices Maddie's is still empty meaning she isn't even home.

He turns off his car and heads up the elevator to his floor. He unlocks the door and heads inside, locking the door behind him knowing that Maddie has a key. She was staying with him. Now that they were together officially Jon thought it made the most sense to just have her live at his place rather than scavenge the city to try and find an apartment.

He takes off his blazer and tie, lying them on the back off the sofa and heads into the kitchen to make himself a sandwich. As he eats, he hears the front door open and the sound of Maddie's heels hurrying through the apartment. When she enters the kitchen she has a rushed and guilty look on her face.

Jonathan stares at her blankly and continues to eat his sandwich. He turns away from her to fill himself a glass of water and when he turns back she is still standing in the same place. She drops her coat and purse on the island and steps forward to cup Jon's face in her hands.

"Baby, I'm sorry. I got caught up at work."

"It's alright." Jon shrugs.

"Obviously it's not."

"Okay, no, it's not. I planned this whole evening and it was completely humiliating that you didn't show up and I just sat there by myself for two fucking hours waiting for you and you never even bothered to call or text me and tell me where you were or when you were coming or what you were doing. I was worried and embarrassed and disappointed." Jon didn't even realize he was yelling until he finished his rant.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled." Maddie shakes her head.

"No, you have every right too. I'm so sorry. I should have called or texted or something so you didn't have to go through that. It won't happen again." Maddie pulls Jon's face to hers and presses their lips together.

"I love you, Jon."

"I love you, too, Maddie."

Notes

It's short, I know! I'm sorry! I've been really busy and I'm actually in Chicago right now. I went to the Blackhawks store and they let me try on Patrick Kane's gear and it was really sick! I'm going to be really busy the next few weeks because school starts but I'm going to try and update as much as possible. Thanks so much! Comment/Vote/Subscribe!
