It's a Girl's Game

Chapter 10

Today was not a good day for the Penguins. First they lost two in a row to the Islanders, and now they have to go to Boston to play the Bruins.
“Lighten up boys, Rask isn’t even that good. Plus they don’t have Chara to do his ‘hard’ slap shot,” Jamie said trying to cheer the guys up.
“Did you really just say Tuukka Rask isn’t a good goalie? How could you not like someone who plays for your country?” Patric Hornqvist asked.
“He’s only useful to me when he’s wearing blue and white, I could care less any other time. Plus out of 10 penalty shots I took on him during the Olympics he was not able to stop one of my shots,” Jamie answered him.
“Is she serious?” Rob Scuderi asked Olli.
“She’s not wrong about the not being able to stop her shot, where she got the other part, I don’t know, well lets just say she’s a little crazy,” Olli answered.
“Oh, so give Jamie the puck?” he asked.
“Ye-”
“I am NOT crazy Maatta!” Jamie yelled across the room.
“See what I have to deal with,” Olli told the other boys causing laughter to spark up throughout the room.
“Lets go tame some bears!” Jamie shouted skipping out of the room the team was in.
“Well, she’s something alright,” Paul Martin said.
“She certainly is,” Craig Adams said, laughing
“You two don’t know the half of it,” Olli said, following Jamie out of the room.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside TD Garden, it sounded like a playoff game. The Penguins were able to strike in the 1st period, but the Bruins got two in the 2nd. Jamie was barely able to get to the puck, let alone get a shot off. Tuukka Rask must have told the defense to stay close to her. He knew her shot better then anyone, except maybe Antti Raanta. The game remained tied throughout the 3rd. No one really got a good scoring chance.
“Geno! Here!” Jamie shouted when she was able to side step the defender. Maybe those dance classes her mother made her take did help her.
ONE MINUTE REMAINING IN THE GAME
“Geno! Here!” she shouted again, this time pushing towards the net. Jamie got the puck, but time was against her. The horn sounded and this game was heading to over time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overtime is always one of the more nerve-racking times in hockey. Just more then regulations but less then a shoot out. It was two-way hockey for the most part; both teams were getting equal chances at both ends.
“Jokinen, go with Malkin,” Johnston told her and she jumped off the bench.
They were 20 seconds into overtime when Jamie got the puck and yelled at Malkin to start skating. Once they were in the Bruins zone she passed the puck to Geno for a one timer. He didn’t get a lot of it, but it was enough to fool Rask and get behind him.
“YEAH!” Jamie yelled and jumped on Malkin.
“Nice pass, Jay,” he said as other penguins joined them. This is one of those moments Jamie plays for: overtime wins in another team’s home.
