It's a Girl's Game

Chapter 26

Jamie, you have out here for half an hour. You need to come into the locker room and get ready to leave before I leave you here," Kimmo Heikki said.
"Kimmo, I'll walk home for all I care."
"It's 20 below zero, I don't expect you to walk 5 kilometers back to your apartment," Kimmo said.
"I'm not scoring and the team is suffering," Jamie mumbled taking another shot at the goal.
"Jamie, you worked your butt off in practice and now you're putting in extra time when pretty much everyone is gone, You need to go home and rest."
"Kimmo, I don't really care for your logic right now. Now either leave me alone or help me," Jamie snapped.
"Jamie, I say this because I care about you. You are injured, no one is blaming you for not playing like you should."
"They made me captain for a reason and I'm not helping my team where it matters," Jamie snapped.
"Listen," Kimmo said, "You have played in the World Junior Championships and the Olympics. In one of those games you hurt your arm and are nowhere near healthy. You have trouble shooting and frankly you shouldn't even be playing right now," Kimmo said finally coming onto the ice.
"Kimmo, listen. If I don't play, it is only going to give Sweden and Russia a reason to I'm not fit to play/ Plus it barely even hurts," Jamie said.
"Jamie-"
"JAMIE WAKE UP!" someone yelled jumping on top of the sleeping 20 year old.
"What do you want?" she asked Steve Downie finally realizing who the voice belonged to.
"We have to go to the rink and you were starting to yell," he said.
"Really?"
"Yeah, you were yelling something about a Kimmo and not playing well," he explained.
"Oh, we play Arizona right?" Jamie asked.
"Well, yeah. We are in Arizona,' Downie said.
"Oh," Jamie said sheepishly.
"Yeah, oh. Lets go," he said shoving Jamie out the door.
"You guys ready to beat up on some Coyotes?" Jamie asked/yelled into the visitor's locker room.
"Never seen you this excited before, what's up?" Sutter asked.
"Nothing," Jamie sang turning to her locker.
"Really what's up?"
"Fine," Jamie sighed knowing they wouldn't leave her alone until they knew, "I realized I get to play the best sport in the world. Happy?"
"No because that's not it," Sutter said.
"Leave her alone, you're never going to get it out of her," Sid said.
"Exactly, now let's go kick some coyote butt!" Jamie yelled.
The penguins ended up winning and Jamie was even more excited. You see her favorite coach was in town and he said he was at the game tonight. Jamie was hoping she would be able to see said coach after the game. That's exactly what she did.
The guys didn't know what to think when Jamie left so early, they were allowed to but normally Jamie was one of the last people to leave.
"Anyone know where Jokinen went?" Sidney Crosby asked.
"No."
"We should go find out," Brandon Sutter mumbled to Steve Downie, after all, next to Maatta, Jamie was closest with those two.
"You sure that's a good idea?" Downie asked.
"Yeah, she is our little sister now and we need to make sure she doesn't get herself into trouble."
"We all know she's prone to finding trouble," Downie laughed.
That is how Steve Downie and Brandon Sutter found themselves wandering the streets of downtown Phoenix. Neither knew where they were going and they had to be back at the hotel soon. If they didn't find Jamie, both of them knew they were going to get a ton of crap.
"There," Sutter said pointing to the crowd of people in front of restaurant.
"Where?" Downie asked.
"Over there with that guy. He looks a lot older," Sutter said.
"I see them, he does," Downie said, "hide, they're coming this why."
"It was great seeing you again Kimmo," Jamie said to the man.
"Well, I was already out here so when I heard you would be playing I had to see you," Kimmo said.
"How is Abby?" Jamie asked
"Doing well, a little stressed out, but good," Kimmo said.
"That's what she gets for majoring in veterinary practices," Jamie laughed.
"I'm going to have to tell her you said that."
"Do it, she'll know it was me who said it," Jamie laughed again.
After talking a little more the two parted ways leaving Downie and Sutter even more confused. They knew they have to go back hotel before Mike had their asses and they had to hurry. Both also knew as soon as they were on that plane they had to talk to Jamie, and talk they did.
"So Jamie," Steve Downie said sliding into the seat next to her.
"Yes?"
"Why were you so quick to leave?" Brandon Sutter said popping up from the seat in front of them.
"I don't see how that is any of your business," Jamie said.
"It is when we saw you walking in downtown Phoenix with your boyfriend," Downie said.
"Downie!" Brandon snapped.
"What, oh, I wasn't suppose to say that," Downie said.
"Wait, you guys followed me?" Jamie asked.
"It seemed less creepy when we first thought of it," Brandon said.
"Guys, Kimmo Heikki is not my boyfriend. We played together when I was still playing for Assat," Jamie explained.
"Well, then who's this Abby person?" Steve asked.
"His daughter, idiots," Jamie said.
"Oh."
"Yeah, oh. Are you guys down interrogating me?" Jamie asked.
"Yes," both mumbled.
"Oh and boys," Jamie said, "Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions."
"Yes mom."
"Shut up," Jamie snapped after hearing that.
"Sure thing James," Downie said before sitting down.
"That means stop talking."
