Wildest Dreams

I Do Not Hook Up

The brunette was listening to a story one of her friends was telling when Tyler walked up to the barstool and she turned to see who was reaching for the stool.

Tyler: This seat taken?
Brunette: No, I don’t think so, but I’m pretty sure the hostess has to seat you there…
Tyler: Its okay, I come here a lot, they know me.
Brunette: If you say so.
Tyler: I’m Tyler.
Brunette: Hi, I’m Meredith.

She had a slight southern draw and smiled as she introduced herself.

Tyler: Can I buy you a drink?
Meredith: No.

Tyler was taken aback by her response and got a confused look on his face.

Meredith: Not if you want to be in a lot of trouble with the law at least. I’m under age.
Tyler: Shit, I thought you were like 22 or 23. How underage are you?
Meredith: I’m 20, just a few a more months.
Tyler: Oh, good.
Meredith: Were you worried you just tried to hit on a 17 year old?
Tyler: Psh, no.
Meredith: Mkay. Why are you hitting on me anyway? There are way prettier girls here who are of legal drinking age.

Meredith’s friend Carlee butted in before Tyler could respond.

Carlee: Mer?
Meredith: Yes?
Carlee: Who is this?
Meredith: Uh this is Tyler.
Carlee: Hi Tyler, I’m Carlee and this is Lauren.

Lauren waved and smiled.

Tyler: Nice to meet you.
Carlee: Are you here alone?
Tyler: No, I came with some friends. They’re over there.

Tyler turned around to point to his friends. When he turned Meredith was able to see his tattoo on the back of his arm.

Meredith: Do you seriously have your named tattooed on you? You’re that guy?
Tyler: What is that supposed to mean?
Meredith: Nothing. So you’re last name is Seguin?
Tyler: Yeah… but I’ve got like a family tree going on so my last name had to go on my arm too.
Meredith: Whatever you say Tyler Seguin. I feel like I’ve heard that name before.

Tyler shrugged his shoulders acting like he was unsure why his name sounded familiar, hiding the fact that he plays for the Dallas Stars.

Tyler: Do you wanna go for a walk? It’s kinda loud in here.
Meredith: I’m not having sex with you.
Tyler: Whoa, I didn’t say anything about hooking up.
Meredith: I know what your intentions are though. We’re going to go for a walk and conveniently end up in front of your apartment building, and then you’re going to say “my apartment is right upstairs, would you like to come in and have a drink?” and then you’re going to hope I say yes and have a drink and then rip off all my clothes and hook up with you. That’s not happening. I don’t do one-night stands and I don’t hook up with people I just met.
Tyler: First of all, that was not my intention or plan at all, and second of all, I don’t have an apartment down the street or a few blocks away, I have a house that is way too far to walk to from here. So, would you like to go for a walk and just talk?

Meredith took a deep breath and looked at the bill that she had already paid. She looked back at Tyler and thought for a second.

Meredith: Fine, I will go for a walk with you.

Meredith turned to her friends who had puzzled expressions on their face.

Meredith: I’m going to go for a walk with Tyler, if you don’t hear from me or see me soon, call the police.

Tyler and Meredith walked out of the restaurant and started to walk down the street.

Meredith: Now that you’ve got me to go on a walk with you, are you going to rape or kill me?
Tyler: No…?
Meredith: Hey, I watch crime dramas; I know what happens to innocent girls who leave restaurants with guys they just met. I just want to make sure.
Tyler: You worry too much, don’t you?
Meredith: You know, I get told that a lot, but I don’t think so.
Tyler: I’ve known you for ten minutes and I think you do.
Meredith: There is nothing wrong with thinking too much and planning for the future.
Tyler: You’re one of those girls.
Meredith: What is that supposed to mean?
Tyler: Nothing, just like it means nothing when you said I’m that guy to have my name tattooed on me.
Meredith: You have a lot of tattoos. Which one is your favorite? Or means the most to you?
Tyler: I really like this one right here of Toronto.

Tyler held out his arm and pointed to the CN Tower on his bicep.

Meredith: I thought I heard a northern accent. You from Toronto?
Tyler: Close to it, pretty much.
Meredith: What brought you all the way down here to Texas?
Tyler: Um, work you could say. The weather is pretty nice too. 55 degrees on Saturday night in December, I’ll take it.
Meredith: Clearly you’ve never been here during the summer.
Tyler: No, I go back to Canada during the summer.
Meredith: So what do you do for your job to bring you all the way down here and allow you to go home during the summer?

Before Tyler could answer a young guy walked up to him and asked if he could interrupt and take a picture. Tyler said of course and took a picture with the fan. Meredith offered to take the picture of them and as she took the pictured she realized why she knew the name Tyler Seguin. The fan thanked Tyler for the picture and Meredith for taking it and went on about his night. Tyler looked at Meredith trying to figure out how he was going to explain the fan without telling her what he does for a living. Meredith looked back at him and smirked.

Tyler: What is that look about?
Meredith: I know why you’re name sounds so familiar.
Tyler: You do?
Meredith: You play for the Dallas Stars. You’re a hockey player.
Tyler: Well usually if you play for the Dallas Stars you’re a hockey player.
Meredith: Okay smartass.
Tyler: Clearly you’re not a huge hockey fan.
Meredith: This is Texas, what do you think?
Tyler: I think that there are still hockey fans here in Texas.
Meredith: Of course there are, its just… clearly I’m not a big hockey fan if it took me this long to figure out who you are.
Tyler: Well obviously you’ve paid some attention to hockey if you were able to figure out who I am.
Meredith: I went to my first Stars game the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so last week.
Tyler: What made you come?
Meredith: My aunt and uncle have season tickets and got tickets for me and my cousin to go with them.
Tyler: Did you like it?
Meredith: Yeah it was fun; I’d go again. I never say no to going to a sporting event.
Tyler: Did you have good seats?
Meredith: Really good. We were in the corner in the 100s. I forgot which section that was, which is embarrassing since I’m always at the Double A-C for concerts.
Tyler: Big concert attender?
Meredith: Huge. I spend way too much money on concert tickets.
Tyler: Well do you have fun when you go?
Meredith: Yeah.
Tyler: Then it’s worth it.
Meredith: I think so too.
Tyler: We should probably head back, we’ve walked a lot and your friends are probably close to calling the police by now.
Meredith: That is a possibility. I did tell them to call the police if they didn’t hear or see me soon.
Tyler: I know, I heard. I should also probably get your number.
Meredith: Oh you should?
Tyler: Yeah you know, so I can make sure you don’t go for walks with guys you just met who might rape or kill you.

Tyler winked at Meredith.

Meredith: Okay, make fun of me but I needed to make sure I was safe.
Tyler: Oh and by the way, to answer your question from earlier
Meredith: What question?
Tyler: The one about why I was hitting on you instead of someone else

Meredith looked at Tyler with her big blue eyes wondering what he was going to say next.

Tyler: I like girls who don’t have to be the center of attention and who are friendly to the people serving them and who don’t take shit from anyone, including myself. You called me out so fast about going for a walk its not even funny. You were also not trying to gain anyone’s attention and you were there with your friends and that seemed to be enough for you. Also, I have a thing for tall girls.
Meredith: So you were trying to hook up with me! That’s still not happening by the way. Second, you didn’t know I was tall until I stood up and went for a walk with you. You can take off about an inch and half with these shoes, so I’m 5’10” instead of the 6 feet I almost am right now, still tall though, and third of all, how long were you watching me?! You gathered a lot of information about me before you even came to talk to me.
Tyler: It isn’t as creepy as it sounds. I watched you for like five minutes, but it wasn’t like an intense watch, I was just looking around and happened to see you, and other people! My eyes just kept wandering back to you. I also can just read people pretty well and I think I’m a good judge of character.

Tyler and Meredith had reached the restaurant and went back inside.

Meredith: Well Mr. Tyler Seguin, I think I should get back to my friends now. They’re probably ready to leave.
Tyler: My friends are probably wondering if I’m coming back. I hope they didn’t leave me.
Meredith: That would be very rude if they did.
Tyler: Well it’s my car so I would be pretty pissed off if they did.
Meredith: You don’t seem to be someone who gets mad often or easily.

Some of the Jumping Hoes noticed Tyler had reappeared and they ran over to him yelling his name and asking him to come dance. Tyler ignored them.

Meredith: I think some people want you.
Tyler: They’re just the Jumping Hoes. I don’t really care if they want me or not. You would think they would figure out I’m ignoring them.
Meredith: Jumping Hoes?
Tyler: It’s, its nothing. My friend named them that.
Meredith: I’m not gonna ask.

Carlee and Lauren walked up to Meredith and Tyler.

Lauren: You ready to go? We’ve been waiting forever for you to get back.
Meredith: Yeah, sorry, I’m ready.
Tyler: Well thanks for going on that walk with me. Get home safe.
Meredith: Thanks, have a good night!
