Tyler walked back to the table his friends were still sitting at. Johnny was off talking to a girl at the bar and Jason and Jamie were busy fighting off and ignoring the Jumping Hoes. Tyler had a small smile on his face and was trying to hide it, which made him smile more. He walked back with hands in his pockets trying to act like he wasn’t smitten over the girl he had just met.

Jason: Where the hell have you been for the past half hour?
Tyler: Nowhere.
Jason: You sit on a throne of lies!
Jamie: Did you find out who she was?
Tyler: Did I what?
Jason: Who was? Seriously, where the hell have you been?
Tyler: I just went for a walk. It’s loud in here and I needed some fresh air. It’s a really nice night out there guys.
Jamie: So, who is she?
Tyler: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Jason: Who the fuck are you talking about Jamie?
Jamie: Before he left the table he asked me who some girl at the bar was and I told him to go find out. Now he won’t say.
Tyler: Sometimes you need to mind your own business.
Jamie: You brought it up to me so now you have to tell me.

Johnny found his way back to the table.

Johnny: That girl you left with didn’t really seem to be your type, Tyler.
Jamie: So you did go find out who she is.
Tyler: Sometimes talking to a girl who isn’t my type pays off.
Jason: Someone has a crush.
Tyler: I don’t have a fucking crush. This isn’t elementary school.
Jamie: I think you do.
Tyler: We’re sitting around this table talking like a bunch of high school girls. I’m so embarrassed. I’m getting another round of drinks.
Jamie: We have practice in the morning, its time to leave.
Tyler: You’re the captain.
Johnny: Don’t forget to say bye to the Jumping Hoes!
Jason: They’re yours now, you say bye to them.
Johnny: Hell no. They’ll follow us home. They’re batshit crazy.
Tyler: Wait, we can’t leave. Johnny didn’t get a drink thrown in his face.

Tyler laughed.

Johnny: Fuck you, Tyler.
Jason: I’ll throw one in his face!
Johnny: Fuck all of you. I don’t know why I hang you out with y’all.
Jamie: Why do you hang out with us? You don’t even play hockey.
Tyler: Because he’s the first friend I made when I moved to Texas.
Jamie: Hey! What about me?
Tyler: You were forced to be my friend. We’re teammates and you’re the captain.
Jamie: I wasn’t captain when I met you that first time.
Tyler: No, but you quickly became the captain.

Meredith, Carlee and Lauren were on their way home from the restaurant when Carlee started asking about Tyler and where they went on their long walk.

Carlee: So, Tyler… he was pretty cute.
Meredith: Yeah.
Carlee: That’s all you have to say?
Meredith: He was just looking for a hookup and he probably thought I would be easy.
Carlee: Y’all were gone on a long walk, are you sure you didn’t hookup. He was so damn cute.
Lauren: No, he was fucking hot. I can’t believe you didn’t hookup with him. He could have had all of me if he wanted to.
Carlee: You say that but you wouldn’t give your virginity to a one-night stand as much as you would like to think you would in that situation.
Lauren: He could do whatever the fuck he wanted to me. He was fucking hot.
Meredith: We did not have sex. We just walked and talked.
Carlee: What did you talk about?
Meredith: A lot.
Lauren: Care to elaborate?
Meredith: We were gone for 30 minutes; do I really have to tell you about everything we talked about?
Carlee: Yes.
Meredith: We talked about how I think too much—
Carlee: You do. That’s a boring and deep conversation for just meeting someone.
Meredith: We talked about it for all of two seconds after I asked if he was going to rape or kill me after he got me on that walk.
Carlee: Who asks that right after they met someone?!
Meredith: Me.
Lauren: Anyway, continue.
Meredith: We talked about going to concerts, where he’s from and his job…
Lauren: Where is he from?
Meredith: Toronto.
Carlee: What is he doing all the way down here in this hellhole?
Meredith: Texas is not a hellhole. Texas is the greatest state and don’t argue with me miss I’m from New York. He came down here for his job.
Carlee: And what is his job?
Meredith: It doesn’t matter does it? Y’all ask too many questions.
Carlee: Yes it matters.
Meredith: Why?
Carlee: He has a really crappy job doesn’t he? Is he a bag boy? Waiter? Janitor? He gets paid minimum wage somewhere doesn’t he?
Meredith: No. The complete opposite.
Lauren: So then what does he do?
Meredith: I don’t want to say because y’all will freak out.
Lauren: He works for the FBI!
Meredith: I don’t think Canadians can work for the FBI and I don’t think he could tell me if he did…
Carlee: He’s a hit man!
Meredith: What? No. Y’all aren’t going to guess it.
Lauren: Then just tell us.
Meredith: Fine. He’s a hockey player. He plays for the Stars.
Carlee: Holy shit! You’re dating a hockey player!
Meredith: No, not even close to dating. I met a hockey player, talked for 30 minutes and will probably never see or hear from him again.
Lauren: We just met a fucking hockey player. A famous athlete just hit on you, Meredith!
Meredith: Yeah… but like I said, I will never hear or see him again. Damn, my cousin is going to freak out when I tell her. She the reason I figured out who he was.
Lauren: How did you figure it out?
Meredith: I went to a Stars game last week and it took me a while to place the name, but I knew I had heard it before and some guy asked to take a picture with him while we were walking and it clicked.
Lauren: Nicole is going to be so jealous that you met him.
Meredith: Yeah, I’ll deal with that later. But I think it’s the captain that she’s in love with. Jamie something or other, or his brother, or something. I don’t listen to half the things she says.

Half way through the drive home, Meredith got a text from Tyler.

Tyler: Hope you didn’t go on any more walks with guys you just met and get raped or killed this time.
Meredith: Haha no, just the walk to the car.
Tyler: Did you get home safe?
Meredith: Still on the way home.
Tyler: Damn, how far do you live?
Meredith: Denton.
Tyler: Student at UNT? Also, you know my last name, but I don’t know yours.
Meredith: Yes, and its James.
Tyler: So Meredith James, how did you end up in Dallas at Jumping Jacks tonight?
Meredith: A couple girls in my sorority said it was good so Carlee, Lauren and I decided to try it since we had the night off from Greek live events.
Tyler: Sorority girl, huh? Which sorority?

Meredith looked up from her phone to ask her friends a question.

Meredith: Why is it as soon as guys hear that you’re a sorority girl they become so much more intrigued?
Lauren: I don’t know.
Carlee: Did Tyler find out we’re in a sorority? Is that who you’re texting?
Meredith: Yeah.
Carlee: See so you did hear from him again!
Meredith: Yes, I know.

Meredith looked back down at her phone.

Meredith: Delta Tau Zeta
Tyler: I bet you look pretty cute in those letters. Actually, you’re just cute.

Meredith blushed and Lauren noticed.

Lauren: What’s he saying?! Why are you smiling so much?
Meredith: It’s nothing.
Carlee: Oh it’s something.
Meredith: Guys, he’s going to forget about me by the morning. I think he’s just texting me to be nice and somehow show that he wasn’t trying to just hookup with me, even though he pretty much admitted it.
Carlee: You should have given in to him. It’s about time you got laid.
Meredith: I’m done talking about this with y’all.

Meredith texted Tyler back.

Meredith: I’m still not hooking up with you.
Tyler: We’ll see about that ;)
Meredith: You’re full of yourself. You know that?
Tyler: I’ve been told that once or twice before.
Meredith: I would have thought more ;)
Tyler: You know I’m not having sex with you, right ;)
Meredith: You keep turning my words back on me. I don’t think I like you very much.
Tyler: You’ll grow to love me.
Meredith: Negative Mr. Seguin.
Tyler: Positive Miss James. I have an early practice in the morning. I’ll talk to you soon. Goodnight!
