James’s POV

As I stepped onto the plane flying to Philly all I could think about was the girl I left on the other side of security. The boys wouldn’t stop chirping at me, but I took it all in stride. I was James Neal, I wasn’t supposed to care about a girl, but I did. I cared about Cameron. We had only been dating for about a week but I knew I didn’t want her to go anywhere in the near future and I was gunna do everything in my power to make sure of that. As the plane took off, I plugged my earphones into my phone and went into the newly downloaded Siriusxm app. I turned the volume up to drown out my teammates as I fell into a deep sleep.

Cameron’s POV

Shortly after lunchtime I found myself sitting on the couch with Bacardi as I watched Law and Order. I heard my phone go off in the bedroom which caused me to launch myself off the couch and slide down my hardwood hallway in my socks. I ran over to the bed after I slid my way to my room and looked at the caller ID which read, ‘Jay<3’ accompanied by a picture of James making a kissy face at the camera shortly after we had met each other 3 months ago.

I answered the call, “Hello…”
“Cam?” asked the deep voice on the other line.
“Hi.”
“Hi. God I miss you already.”
“I miss you too, Jay.”
“I just wanted to let you know we made it to Philly and the hotel ok. And talk to you as well of course.”
“Of course.” I smiled.
I sighed as I heard pounding on the other line.
“Hey babe, I gotta go watch game tape but I’ll call later, K?”
“ ‘course. Call anytime. Say ‘Hi’ to Geno for me?”
“ ‘course. Talk to you later.”
“Yeah.” We both made no move to hang up.
“Please hang up first so I feel like less of a jerk for leaving you at security.” James pleaded.
“You’re not a jerk, you’re a hockey player. It’s your job.”
“It’s a sucky job.”
“No it’s not. Bye Jay.” I hang up the phone before he had a chance to protest again.

James’s POV

I stepped out of my room and down the stairs to where the bus was waiting to take the team to the rink.

I hopped onto the bus and sat next to Geno, “Cam says ‘hi’.”
“You talk to her?” he asked.
“Yeah, just got off the phone with her actually.” I said with a hint of sadness.
“Why you sad? She tell you truth that she like me better?” G said.
I smirked, “Not likely.”
”Then why?” Damn. That Russian didn’t miss a thing.
“I just miss her,” this required Geno to stand up and yell to the entire bus, “Nealer misses a girl!” Which required an entire new chorus of catcalls to start. I shifted down in my seat and took the calls that were being thrown at me.

When we arrived at the rink, many of the boys were excited to see the Max Talbot who was traded over the summer just like me. I’ve only played against the guy but all my teammates said I would like him. I kept walking towards the locker room, not stopping to chit chat. I just wanted to watch the tapes and go back to the hotel.

I collapsed into the airplane seat devastated about the 3-2 loss we took last night. I was exhausted from the game last night and staying up to talk to Cameron for 2 hours last night. We were on our way to New York to play the Islanders tomorrow and we were desperately hoping for a win. I felt Geno plop down beside me and nudge my shoulder. I looked up at him and gave him a small smirk, letting him know I was ok and then let my head fall back onto the headrest awaiting take off.

I stood outside the faceoff circle and watched as Blake Comeau skated up beside me.

“How’s the puck bunny you’ve had attached to your arm for a couple months.”
he said.

I just ignored him and waited for the refs who were reviewing a play.

“Touchy subject? Maybe because she’s falling into bed with your other teammates.”

That was the last straw. Before I knew it, I was standing over him after I took him out with one punch.

As I was skating to the penalty box, I passed Geno who gave me a pat on the back.

We were lucky enough to skate away with a 6-3 win over the Islanders. After my trip to the sin bin, I scored two goals and got an assist on Crosby’s goal. We all decided we wanted to fly back late and were expected in Pittsburgh by 3AM tomorrow morning. I was just excited to see Cameron again. I was thinking about knocking on her apartment when I got home. Just the idea of sleeping with her next to me got me restless hoping the plane would take off soon or that sleep would overtake me.
