AAOOOSC! #10

"I Answered My Phone!"

Even though Olli is a cat and did not play, the Penguins managed to defeat the Islanders.

That night after the game, John storms into his house with his power erasure gun in his hand.
He is infuriated that he captained the team to a loss. So to blow off some steam, John goes down to his lab. He figures it would divert his mind from the lost.

After punching in the passcode to his lab, John pushes the thick, metallic door open and ambles into the already-lit room; the door automatically closes behind him.

He swipes his lab coat off from the coat hanger and slips it on swiftly. He approaches his desk and peers down, placing his gun aside. He smooths a blueprint that was already on his desk against the surface; it is showing a white-coloured sketch of a box-figured object with tubes.

“Alright, time to labour on that…” John steps away from the desk and heads left to the end of the room.

He immediately halts when he comes across the empty end. His eyes fly open and his jaw drops.

“My apparatus!” His hands fly up to his hair. “Whereabouts is it?” He turns around in place with sharp turns, gazing around his surroundings.

When he is looking behind him, he spots something else: The top shelf of the metallic shelf that holds his creations is vacant.

“Wha--?” He rushes up to the shelf, stretches his hand up to the top shelf, and paws it. “My time-travelling firearm is obliged to be at this location! Whereabouts is it?!"

He quickly turns back around, pressing his back against his shelf with pure horror; he is breathing hard. “My power-supremacy apparatus! My time-travelling firearm! They’ve vanished!”

“John?” Autumn’s voice calls out from the living room.

“Um--” John opens the door and rushes into the hallway and out into the living room.

Autumn is strolling into the living room from the front door. A pleasant smile is on her face. “Oh, there you are!” Concern begins to show as she sees John’s distressed expression. “Is something troubling you?”

“Oh, um--” John pitches his nose. “No, just a assessment gone erroneous.”

“Alright…” She nods her head, clutching onto her handbag in front of her. “Well, the Niemi's are arranging a make-up dinner at this moment.”

John’s eyebrows shoot up. “At this moment?”

“Yes.” Autumn begins to turn back around. “So we must withdraw hereabouts. Come along.” She saunters back out of the house.

John gazes up in hopelessness. He groans. “Good grief.”

In San Jose, it is true that Antti and Jonna are hosting a make-up dinner party. But in my opinion, they should’ve not have had a make-up dinner party--the first one was quite better.

Around the table are Antti, Jonna, Sidney, Jonny, Nathan, Pekka, Jonas, John, and Autumn.
They are munching on the wonderful food of the Finns once again.

Sidney gazes around the table with a small frown. “Where's Patrick and Jonathan--Tazer Jonathan?”

Jonathan shrugs while having his spoon in his mouth.

“Maybe they didn’t get the memo,” Nathan tells Sidney. He takes a sip of water.

Jonna pipes in: “I did leave a voicemail, since they didn’t answer their phones. But they never called back.”

“Huh, it’s not a coincidence that both Patrick and Jonathan didn’t answer their phones,” Pekka points out, cutting a meatball.

“I answered my phone!” Jonathan points to his chest.

Pekka rolls his eyes at him. “Not you, Toews.”

“But why wouldn’t they pick up?” Jonas questions, snacking on a bag of chips.

“Maybe they have a game today?” Jonna assumes.

“The Blackhawks aren’t playing tonight,” Antti tells his wife, scooping raspberry jam onto his mashed potatoes.

Sidney turns to John, who has been quite this whole time. “Do you know why Patrick and Tazer are not here?”

John jumps in his chair with large eyes. “Huh?”

“You’re smart,” Sidney adds in.

“Oh, um, I hadn’t negotiated with Tazer ever since...ever since…” His voice fades off as he thinks. “...ever since we converged at the ice cream parlour.”

“Wow, that must’ve been the longest time you’ve gone without him ever since you two became friends!” Nathan points out with surprise.

John shrugs. “Hm.” He then goes back to his food. More like picking at his food. Piles and piles of guilty of gradually betraying those who trust him is making John fade to the background.

“I hope they’re okay, though,” Sidney says, frowning at his food. “It’s odd for them to never answer their phone like that. Especially both of them.”

“Maybe you guys should probe into them-- Journey to their residences,” Autumn suggests.
Sidney’s eyes light up. “That’s a great idea!” He stands up and turns to Antti. “Can I go to their ‘residences?’”

“Sure.” Antti nods his head with approval.

“Alright!” He turns to Nathan on his right and then to Jonathan on his left. “Nathan, Jonny: Come with me to Chicago!”

Nathan and Jonathan both pull their chairs out and stand up. They then follow Sidney out of Antti’s house.

It is now quiet at the table.

Pekka is the one to talk: “Just curious, are we going to have another make-up dinner if Kazer doesn’t arrive?”

“Oof, that’d be lots of cooking and visitors in a short amount of time!” Jonna gasps. “Maybe, maybe not.”

Silence falls on the table once again.

Then, Jonas holds up his bag of chips to Pekka, who is next to him. “Chips?”

Pekka shoots him a disgusted look. “No.”

Jonas reverts his bag of chips to John. “Chips?”

John peers at the bag with shifty eyes, then turns back to his food.

Jonas holds the bag out at Autumn. “Chips?”

Autumn gives him a warm smile. “No, thank you.”

Suddenly, Sidney, Nathan, and Jonny burst back into the room. They are all out of breath, except for Sidney, who is more in shock than tiredness.

“Guys! Guys!” he shrieks, waving his hands up in the air, at the two steps that led down to the dining area.

Everyone at the dining table halts in their eating and put their attention at Sidney.

“They weren’t at their houses! They weren't on Madhouse at Madison! They weren’t even at the supermarket! This calls for a full-fledge search!” He flails his hands in the air while looking up.

“Ohhh my, this isn’t good...!” Antti exclaims, having a worried look. “We should search for them right now!” He stands up. “To the GHP HQs!”

“Aiy, aiy, captain!” Sidney salutes him with the most serious face he can do, which isn’t too serious. “Or should I say ‘Master?’”

“Go, go, go!” Antti calls out to his team.

Pekka and Jonas jump to their feet and race out of the house, following Sidney, Nathan, and Jonny.

Antti eyes John, who is still sitting down. “John, we must go!”

John turns to Antti. “I apologize, but I don’t reckon I can go. I just took part a game tonight and I am awfully fatigued. Furthermore, I have Autumn here.” He hooks arms with Autumn.

Autumn shoots him a glare. “John!” she hisses quietly. “Set off with them!"

“I apologize.” John then gets up, pulling Autumn up as well.

Antti nods his head with a disapproving frown. “Very well-- Good night.” He then marches out of the dining room.

Jonna peers up at John and Autumn; she points to the left over serving bowls of Finnish food. “Would you like to take this to go? Our fridge is overloaded with leftovers already.”
