First Love - Part 2

It’s the day before training camp starts. James has left for the morning. Maddie is still in bed sleeping when she’s woken up by her cell phone ringing.

Leslie - I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.
Maddie - It’s ok.
Leslie - How are you feeling?
Maddie - Not too great.
Leslie - What’s the matter sweetie?
Maddie - I have some pretty awful morning sickness.
Leslie -Where’s James?
Maddie - He had to head to the arena for medical testing.
Leslie - Oh right today was the day the team has their physicals.
Maddie - So he’ll be gone for part of the day.
Leslie - I hope he isn’t gone long so he can come home and take care of you.
Maddie - Me too
Leslie - You should see if there is a smoothie or something that will help with your morning sickness.
Maddie - That’s a good idea.
Leslie - I’ll let you go.
Maddie - Ok
Leslie - Feel better
Maddie - I’ll try to.

The girls hang up. Maddie gets up and then goes into the kitchen. She grabs her tablet and looks up smoothie recipes for morning sickness. She decides to make herself a fruit smoothie. She throws some ginger in with the fruit. She then throws everything in the blender and turns it on. She pours some of the mixture into a glass and sticks a straw in the glass. She puts the rest of the mixture in the fridge. She goes into the living room and curls up on the couch. She drinks her smoothie and then falls asleep. A little while later James then comes home. He goes into the living room and finds Maddie sound asleep. He gently picks her up and carries her to their bedroom. He gently puts her down on the bed. He then takes off his shoes and then lays down next to her. He wraps his arms around her holding her close and then covers them with his blanket. He closes his eyes and is asleep a short time later until later that night. James wakes up and gives Maddie a kiss. She then wakes up and smiles.

James - I love you baby.
Maddie - I love you too.
James - You ok my love? You look really pale.
Maddie - I don’t feel that great.
James - What’s the matter honey?
Maddie - I have some pretty horrible morning sickness.
James - Is there anything I can do?
Maddie - Do we still have any chicken soup?
James - I believe so. Did you want me to heat you up some?
Maddie - That would be ok.
James - Did you want some ginger ale or 7up too?
Maddie - There’s still some of the smoothie I made from earlier in the fridge that I’ll finish.
James - Ok, I’ll go heat you up some soup to eat.
Maddie - Thanks sweetie.
James - It’s no problem.

James gives Maddie a kiss and then gets up from the bed. He goes into the kitchen and heats up some chicken soup for Maddie to eat. Maddie lays on the bed for a few minutes and sighs. She then gets out of bed and then heads into the kitchen. She comes up behind James and wraps her arms around his waist.

Maddie - Is my soup ready yet?
James - Just about babe. You can sit up at the table.
Maddie - Ok

James finishes heating up Maddie’s soup. He brings it, a spoon, and the crackers over to the table. He pours the rest of Maddie’s smoothie mixture in a glass for her. He puts a straw in the glass and sets it on the table. He then heats up the leftovers from last night’s dinner. He join Maddie at the table. He then takes a hold of Maddie’s hand and smiles.

James - Does the soup taste ok?
Maddie - Yeah it does. Thank you for heating it up for me.
James - You’re welcome babe.
Maddie - I love you.
James - I love you too.
Maddie - We should be thinking of names for our little boys.
James - Yeah we should.
Maddie - We can do that after my doctor’s appointment tomorrow.
James - Ok, you look tired honey.
Maddie - I am pretty tired.
James - Then why don’t we just head to bed.
Maddie - You don’t have to go to bed just cuz I’m tired.
James - I know but I figured you would want to cuddle some more.
Maddie - Aww, you know me so well.
James - (Smiles) Of course I do.

James reaches across the table and gives Maddie a kiss. They finish their dinner. James cleans up the table. He and Maddie then go into the their bedroom to get ready for bed. They get into bed. Maddie snuggles up to James and goes right to sleep. James smiles as he wraps his arm around her. He kisses the top of her head. He closes his eyes and is asleep a short time later until the next morning. Maddie wakes up the next morning and sees that James has left for practice. She decides to call Leslie.

Leslie - Hey, how you feeling?
Maddie - A little better.
Leslie - That’s good. What do you need?
Maddie - Can you take me to my doctor’s appointment?
Leslie - Of course I will.
Maddie - Thanks, James would take me but he’s at practice.
Leslie - It’s no problem. I’ll be there soon.
Maddie - Ok, see you soon

The girls hang up. Maddie gets out of bed and decides to take a warm shower. She undresses and then goes into the bathroom. She turns on the shower to warm it up. She gets in the shower. She gets out of the shower a little while later and goes back into the bedroom. She gets dressed and then goes into the kitchen to make herself a quick breakfast. As she’s eating breakfast she sends James a text saying, “Hey sweetie. Can you stop at the store on the way home from practice and get me some chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I’m craving something sweet.” A little while later Leslie shows up. Maddie lets her in for a few minutes.

Leslie - You ready to go hon?
Maddie - Yeah, lets go.

The girls leave the house and then head to the doctor. They arrive at the doctor’s office. Leslie waits in the waiting room while Maddie sees her doctor. Maddie sighs as she waits for the doctor cuz she really wants James there with her. Just then James walks into the exam room. Maddie smiles and then James sits in the chair next to her. He gives her a kiss.

James - Surprised to see me?
Maddie - Kind of. I thought you had practice all morning.
James - Coach let me leave early so I could be with here with you.
Maddie - So the guys know about the pregnancy then?
James - Yeah I told them when we had the informal workouts last week.
Maddie - Aww, so I’m assuming the guys are going to get things for the twins after they’re born.
James - I would assume so.

Just then the doctor comes into the room. She sits down in the chair and performs an ultra sound on Maddie’s belly. She is shocked when she sees that one of the twins is actually female.

Doctor Jade - Your babies are doing fantastic but I don’t know how to tell you this but one of the twins is really a girl.
Maddie - A girl?
James - I thought they were both male.
Doctor Jade - It appears baby B had swelling of her female parts that made her look male.
Maddie - Is that common?
Doctor Jade - It’s fairly common. So you’ll be having one of each.
Maddie - I guess that’s ok as long as they’re healthy. Right sweetie?
James - That’s right.
Doctor Jade - How has your morning sickness been?
Maddie - It’s been pretty horrid lately.
James - Is there anything Maddie and I can do to make it better?
Doctor Jade - There’s anti-nausea wristbands you can wear. Most of my other patients swear by morning sickness popsicles.
James - I guess we can try that.
Maddie - Anything would be an improvement.
Doctor Jade - I will also give you a prescription for anti-nausea pills.
Maddie - Ok
Doctor Jade - I want to see you in March to make sure you don’t go into labor early.
Maddie - I can do that.
Doctor Jade - I will make an appointment for you to come see me around this same time.
Maddie - Ok, thank you Doctor.

James and Maddie leave the doctor’s office and then head to Wal-Greens to pick up Maddie’s prescription, anti-nausea wristbands, and popsicles. They then stop at the store to get the ice cream Maddie wanted. On the way home James takes a hold a Maddie’s hand and smiles.

James - I love you baby.
Maddie - I love you too sweetie.
James - So you are you ok with the baby news we got?
Maddie - Of course sweetie. It doesn’t matter to me as long as the twins are healthy.
James - I feel the same way.
Maddie - Is it ok if I go take a nap when we get home?
James - Of course baby. I’ll join you if you want me to.
Maddie - That sounds nice.

They arrive at home. They go inside. Maddie goes into the bed room. James puts Maddie’s ice cream in the freezer. He then goes into the bed room. He sees that Maddie is already sound asleep. He lays down on the bed beside her and wraps his arms around her holding her close. He then covers her with his blanket. He kisses the top of her head and then closes his eyes. He’s asleep a short time later until later that night. Over the next few days James goes through training camp. It’s now a few days before the first game of the season.
