Look up and get lost in the Stars

8.

Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship - Omar N. Bradley

The two weeks went by excruciatingly slow. We went a day or two here and there without talking because he was busy with practice and training and the games in general. I was missing him a lot. I missed hugging him and kissing him even though we hadn't kissed all that much. I missed just physically being with him.

The two weeks were hard without him. But the times we would talk and Facetime made up for everything. Seeing his name pop up on my phone or his face during a Facetime made everything feel better to me. And watching him play on the ice was great too. They didn't win every game, but they always gave it everything they had. I was part of a group chat with some of the other guys which was actually really entertaining.

Tyler and I talked pretty often too actually. He was actually incredibly nice to me, he kept checking in to see how I was handling Jamie being gone for so long. Don't get me wrong, he was cocky as fuck, but under that whole persona, he was just a kind hearted guy.

I finished watching some of the post-game interviews after the Stars won their last away game in Vancouver, which I knew Jamie was happy about since his family got to be there as well.

I had gone to sleep not too long after the game had ended when my phone ringing woke me up. I sat up in a haze when I heard it ring, it took me a second to realize what was going on before I jumped from my bed quickly, worrying that it might have been something from back home. But my mind was quickly eased my seeing it was my buzzer, and I smiled a little, hoping maybe it was Jamie.

"Hello?" I asked cautiously.

"It's me!" I heard Jamie say from the other end.

I laughed a little, "Well get on up here then!" I said and hit the number 9 to let him in.

I smiled widely and left my room to get to the front door; I opened it and stepped out into the hallway, waiting for him to come off of the elevator. I heard the elevator door open from down the hall and I waited for a second until he walked out. When he saw me standing in the hall looking at him, he broke out into a smile.

I don't know what came over me, but I smiled at him and ran at him, he opened his arms for me and I jumped into his arms, wrapping them around his neck while my legs went around his waist. He held me tight around the waist and squeezed me. I tucked my head into the crook of his neck and breathed in deeply. I had missed the way he smelled, which sounded gross but it was true. It was his cologne and a mix of sweat, which again, sounded gross but it was perfect.

"I missed you," he told me.

I smiled, "I missed you too, Jamie," I whispered.

I pulled back from his and just smiled, taking in all of his features again. I finally detached myself from him, but grabbed his hand with mine and laced our fingers together. When we got in I locked the door behind us as Jamie headed to the kitchen.

"Why didn't you go home, first?" I asked him, leaning against the counter as he poured some water out of my Brita.

He smiled at me, "Because I missed you, and I was tired of hanging out with the other guys."

I laughed lightly, "You didn't even drop off your luggage?" I asked him playfully.

"Nope," he grinned, "I just wanted to hang out with you."

"Well, don't I feel all special," I grinned.

"You guys played really well, eh?" I said, as he took a drink from his glass.

He smiled and nodded as he put the glass down on the counter, "Five outta seven is pretty good," he agreed.

I watched him as he finished off the rest of his drink; he had done really well on the away games. He netted 8 goals and 9 assists, so he was really successful on the trip.

"I missed watching the homes games," I admitted.

He shrugged, "Maybe someone will be able to get you a ticket or two," he told me.

I sighed and looked away, "Maybe, if only I knew friends in high places," I said as I looked back to him.

He was grinning from ear-to-ear, "Do you wanna sit at the glass again?" he asked me.

I nodded enthusiastically, "Yes! I love sitting there!"

He nodded, "Then that's where you'll go," he told me before he sighed, "I should get going, though. I have practice tomorrow...later today I guess."

I nodded and followed him as he walked to the door, "Thanks for stopping by," I told him, turning to face him.

He smiled, "It's all I wanted to do," he admitted shyly.

I smiled and hugged him tightly, "That's all I wanted too," I told him.

He held me tightly against him, "I'll talk to you in a bit, yeah?"

I nodded into his chest as we pulled apart, "Okay," I agreed.

He pulled me back and leaned over a bit to be face-to-face with me, he pressed his lips to mine and held me there. I quickly deepened the kiss and ran my hands through his hair before we pulled apart.

"See you later," he told me.

I smiled and let go of him, "Bye, Jamie," I told him.
--

"You gotta do it," Tyler whined to me leaning against me.

I shook my head and sipped from the straw in my fancy drink, "I'm not gonna help you get laid," I told him when I finished my sip.

He groaned, "What if it turned into a beautiful relationship between me and this girl? It'd be all because of you, you'd have to make a speech at my wedding," he said making me laugh.

"You're unbelievable," I told him, looking at him from the corner of my eye.

"But is that a yes?" he asked me.

I sighed and looked around the VIP section we were sitting in again after the boys had won against the Penguins.

"Ty, I love you, you know this," I told him, to which he nodded with a big smile, "But...I can't take part in this! You're just gonna sleep with a girl and leave!"

"Let me live, Josie!" he cried dramatically making me laugh, "Just one time! I just wanna see what having a wingwomen is like!"

I groaned and slumped against him, "Just this one time."

He cheered and jumped up, almost making me fall over, "You're my best friend! I love you!" he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me up.

I laughed as he hugged me; I rolled my eyes when I looked back at him when we broke apart, "I don't even know what to do!" I said throwing my hands up, "Can't I just go up to a girl and say, hey my friend wants to take you to his place and hook up. That's easier!" I said as he laughed and shook his head.

"No!" he told me, "Just go next to a girl at the bar, start to talk, oh hey you're shoes are on fleek or whatever, and then be like, yeah so my best friend Tyler is super shy and he thought you were really pretty and he's right over there, and then you point to me and then there we go."

"Oh my God," I said sitting back in my seat and looking at him, watching as his smile grew, "You're so gross, Tyler."

"No turning back!" he said, "You said you'd do it, so let’s go!"

I smiled and rolled my eyes, standing up next to him, "Fine, let’s just get it over with."

We went out into the club and looked at the bar area, with Tyler deciding which girl he wanted me to go up to.

"What about her?" I asked, half pointing to a girl in a pair of jeans and lace-y tank top, "She's not as...revealing as the others," I told him.

He scoffed and looked away, "I doubt she'd wanna...you know, hang out with me then," he said, looking back at me with a small wink.

I groaned and hit his shoulder, "Ew!" I told him, disgusted, "I'll only help if it’s her, because maybe she'll put you in place!"

"Fine," he moaned, extending his arm in her direction.

I smiled and walked over to her, and leaned against the bar, "Hey," I said with a small smile, "I love your top!"

She looked at me a little taken aback, "Um, thank-you?"

I laughed and nodded, "No problem. Don't worry, I'm not hitting on your or anything," I told her waving my hand, "my huh, friend Tyler, he thought you were really pretty, but he came down with a case of the nerves and didn't wanna come over so I volunteered."

She laughed softly and nodded, "Is he a friend that literally wants to smash and that's it?" she asked.

My mouth popped open, but I relented and sighed, "You caught him! If you're into that, then we're good, if not I'll wander away."

"Or!" she said with a small smirk, "I'll just fuck with him that'd probably be more entertaining."

"A girl after my own heart," I said approvingly, "He wouldn't leave me alone until I tried to be his wingwomen, so if you could just fuck with him that'd be great."

She laughed and nodded, "Always fun to give a guy a taste of his own medicine."

I laughed a little with a small nod, "True. But, he is one of my best friends, so don't be too mean to him," I told her.

She grinned, "Don't worry! Send him on over!" she said with a breathy laugh.

I nodded and walked back to Tyler who was watching expectantly, "Well?" he asked.

I smiled and motioned over to her with my head, "Have at her," I said to him.

He raised his eyebrows, "Just like that?" he asked me.

I shrugged and looked away from him, fearing I would just start giggling, "I'm just that good, Ty."

"Damn," he breathed, "Thanks, Josie!" he said as I looked at him, he then went over to the girl confidently as I became engrossed in giggling watching him.

"Why are we laughing?" Jamie whispered in my ear.

I shivered a little and turned to face him slightly, "Oh, Tyler is about to get rejected," I whispered back to him.

He chuckled and stood next to me, "Tyler Seguin getting rejected?" he asked with a laugh in his voice, "Gotta see it."

I leaned into him as he spoke, "Any moment," I said.

But as I watched I saw the girl light up and start laughing at whatever Tyler was saying to her, I rolled my eyes and shook my head, "Damn him and that fucking charm of his," I said, glancing up at Jamie who laughed at me.

"He is charming," he admitted.

I sighed and shrugged, turning away from Tyler and the girl and fully facing Jamie, "You're pretty charming," I smiled.

He laughed, "Well thank-you, love."

I raised an eyebrow at him, "That my nickname?" I asked him with a small smile.

He laughed and rubbed the back of his neck, "I think it suits you," he told me.

I smiled up at him, "Well thank-you."

"You're welcome," he said with a small smile.

"Josie! You're the best person on the planet!" Tyler proclaimed walking over to me and Jamie.

I shook my head as I looked at him, "I didn't think that she was gonna go for you! She was gonna put you in your place, man!"

Tyler's smile only grew, "She told me! But when you're Tyler Seguin miracles happen!"

I chuckled and Jamie laughed loudly, "You're ridiculous," Jamie told him.

"So what happened?" I asked.

Tyler shook his head, "I'll tell you back in the section," he said as he walked away from us.

I took Jamie's hand and followed behind Tyler, "You need to know that badly eh?" Jamie asked me.

I smiled over my shoulder at him before facing forward again, leading him through the crowd of people at the club, "You know me, Benny, I'm nosey AF."

I heard him laugh behind me as we got back to our section, I sat down quickly next to Tyler as he sat on my other side, "Tell me," I urged, shaking his leg.

He laughed and put an arm around me, "So, I go up to her and we start talking but she was getting ready to leave so I gave her the old SeggySeg charm and I got her number," he said waving his phone at me.

I rolled my eyes but I smiled at him, "Unbelievable, Ty. She told me she was gonna put you in your place, just like you deserve."

He laughed at me, "I'm living the dream, JoJo, no one can cage me."

I sighed and leaned against Jamie as he rested a hand on my thigh, "Well don't be a dick and just screw her then leave."

He smiled a little and shrugged, "She was kinda cool, we'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll be the next one to get a girlfriend now that Chubbs has one," he said looking at Jamie and hitting him quickly on the chest.

I opened my mouth to retort, that I wasn't Jamie's girlfriend actually, but Jamie beat me to talking, "If only you could be so lucky, Segs."

I looked up at Jamie but he kept his eyes on Tyler, I shrugged it off.

Tyler and Jamie broke off into a different conversation that I was half paying attention to. Tyler moved his arm from my shoulder and Jamie placed his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him, with his other hand still resting on my thigh.

I was quickly realizing that I wanted Jamie. I wanted to be with him, but I didn't know how to tell him, or when to tell him for that matter. All I was sure about what that everything felt right. My heart felt whole with him.

I knew he still felt the same way as he had been telling me. That'd he wait until I was ready and everything, that he wasn't going anywhere. Lord knows I didn't want him to go anywhere. I wanted him with me all the time. That was my dream.

"What do ya say, Josie?" Tyler asked me, pulling me from my daydreams.

I blinked quickly and looked over at him, "What?" I asked confused.

He laughed and shook his head, "Your girl's a space cadet," he said looking to Jamie.

I stuck my tongue out at him, "Fuck off," Jamie said with a smile in his voice.

"We were talking about the summertime, most of us go home for the off-season, and I'm thinking about having everyone to the cabin I have in Muskoka. You down?" Tyler asked me.

"This summer?" I asked, placing my hand on Jamie's on my leg, "That's pretty far in advance, no?"

Jamie gripped my hand tightly, "You think we won't be hanging out all this summer or something, Jo?" Jamie asked me.

I turned my head a little to look up at him, "Are we?" I asked.

He smiled down at me, "You heard Ty, right? You're my girl, and we'll be spending as much time together as we can."

My heart felt like it was swelling with happiness in that moment. I was his girl. And he was my boy.
