Knocked Down, Rise Above

Chapter 27


Over the next few days Sid skates and watched the team practices. He still hadn't been cleared to play for the one game road trip they had for the weekend so he was home in Pittsburgh but skates in the morning.


He also along with Cassie went to look at both houses his parents were looking at. They picked one and made an offer on it. Sid loved the house they picked it was perfect.

Now he just was waiting to be cleaned for a full contact practice which he got that morning this was the next step to being able to come back. They had two home games left before the four game road trip. He really hoped he could be back for at least one home game

“Thank god you back” Geno says as Sid came into get ready for practice

“Don't get too excited G I still have to get thru it and see if in game tonight” Sid says

"Why no” Geno says

“Have to see how I am after it. But trust me if I am feeling good I am playing that's the plan” Sid says

“Good” Geno says

“I definitely plan on being back for the road trip” Sid says as they finished getting ready to hit the ice They skated and did a few other things before the coach had them working on the power play

Sid hoped they could get it even better even than it was before. Missing Kris as he was still out wasn't good and would hurt them somewhat

“G remember the stuff we worked on” Sid ask as they start

“Yeah” Geno saga

“Still use it even know i am back two of us doing passing like that will confuse the other team and get us more chances “ Sid says

“Ok” Geno says It worked out well they were doing the best they done on the power play the coach was really happy

“That's what we need good job with it” coach Sullivan says as they finished up

Sid knew the media would want to talk to him Sullivan held him on the ice as everyone else left

"How you feeling” Sullivan asks

"I feel great” Sid says

“Good you could start tonight possible if you think you feel up to it” he says

"That's my plan but let's say I am a game time decision just in case after I leave anything comes up plus I want to tell Cassie without her hearing from media or on social media I am definitely starting

“I can understand both of those reasons so go to locker room and changed talk to the media and we will see you back here later” Sullivan says

"Ok thanks coach” Sid says

"Sid i am glad you're back and not just because the team needs you. I am glad for you i know this game and being on the ice is sort of what defines you and it's been tough but things are getting better and tonight you will be back” Sullivan says

Sid just smiles he was so happy as he heads into the locker room he saw the media and knew he had to give them some time

"Sid how did your first full practice back go” one ask


“It was good I feel good it was great just to get out there and work with the guys” Sid says

"Will you play tonight now” another asks

“We will see I will be a gametime decision so I can't say for sure” Sid says

“It there still something that could cause you not to play” they ask

“Well I feel great now but sometimes with a concussion you can have issues later so have to make sure there’s no issues “ Sid says

Finally he was done he got a shower and dressed to go home he couldn't wait to get home Cassie was making lunch for them. Sid walks in the kitchen and asks “baby is lunch ready”

“Hey baby yep I know you want to keep your regular game day routine up” Cassie says

“I do and definitely have to now that I am going to play tonight” Sid says with a smile

"Wait you're cleared to play” Cassie asks with tears in her eyes

“Yeah baby I didn't say anything in media because I wanted to tell you first. Plus I wanted to make sure no issues came up after practice” Sid says Cassie went and hugged him tightly crying

"Baby are you ok you're crying” Sid asks

"Happy tears baby happy tears I am so happy for you and proud” Cassie says still hugging him

“Good I am glad baby now let's eat lunch because I have to take my nap soon” Sid says kissing her

“Yes that true wait til your parents find out” Cassie says

"Yeah they are taking care of part of the paperwork for the house we will tell them once I wake up to leave for the game” Sid says

“Ok baby” Cassie says They finish eating and Sid says

“leave the dishes and come lay with me baby”

" Ok baby” Cassie says taking his hand as they walked to the bedroom to lay down.

They fell asleep until it was time to get up

When Sid was getting ready Cassie finished getting ready she had a nice black shirt on with her jeans she had curled her hair she wanted to look good for Sid first game he played this season

“Wow you look amazing baby now you just need my jersey on” Sid says as he came out from the bathroom ready to put his suit jacket on

"I wanted to be dresses nice for your first game baby” Cassie says

"You wearing my home jersey would make me so proud and happy” Sid says kissing her

“Then that's what I will do you are ok with me sitting with your parents Instead of sitting in the box right” Cassie says

“Oh yeah baby I like being able to find you in the stands” Sid says

“Aww baby “ Cassie says as they head downstairs to get Troy and Trina so they could leave

" Ready” Trina asks

"Yep” Cassie says

“So think the team is ready for tonight” Troy asks as they get in the car

"I think so I know this the Captain is ready to go out there tonight and win “ Sid says hoping they figure it out

"Your playing” Trina says smiling

" Yeah I am cleared to play” Sid says

“This day just got a whole lot better” Troy says smiling

“I know I cried when he told me a little while ago” Cassie says

“I would have told you guys too when I got home but you two were taking care of stuff for the house” Sid says

“It's fine was only right you and Cassie have you're own moment about this I am glad you two had that” Troy says

“Yeah we are just happy you are cleared and back to playing” Trina says

They finished the drive to the arena talking a little everyone happy
