Chapter 42

New Year, New Beginnings

They got to the airport early and flew into Halifax where Sid had just rented a car he was all about being low key for the trip and just relaxing.

They stopped at the store to get stuff for the days they would be here. Then headed to the house. It was cold and there was some snow it looked beautiful. When they pulled up to the house Cassie says “I love it here the water the house it's the perfect getaway place” “

I am glad you love it here it's our place” Sid says

"No it's your house baby but you did an amazing job with this place I have always loved it” Cassie says “

It's home” Sid says

"I know baby” Cassie says They got everything in the house and put away Sid got a fire started and then saw Cassie looking out towards the water he wraps his arms around her and says “what are you thinking about”

"Summers here cause I know this is home for you truly home” Cassie says

"It is and there will definitely be summers and other times here but I did mean what I said Pittsburgh is home I don't plan on leaving it or the team even after my playing days are over” Sid says
“I know but this can be the getaway from that where many great memories have happen and still will happen” Cassie says

"Oh yeah and I meant what I said about this is our place baby I actually have to meet with our family attorney while here so we can sign papers to have your name added on the property” Sid says

“Your serious” Cassie says

“Yeah that's pretty much me all the time isn't it. But yes this is your home too it always will be baby” Sid says

“It's just hard to believe all this would be mine I haven't done anything to deserve all this” cassie says

“Baby don't ever think that and I love you I want to share my life with you and that includes this house baby so please let me take care of this while we are up here” Sid says

“Ok baby” Cassie says

“Good now as great as the view is looking out there I started a fire so let's go enjoy that for tonight “ Sid says kissing her head

“Lead the way baby” Cassie says she was so happy They relaxed that night just by the fire. It was what they both needed from the start of the season.

They next day they went and met with the attorney and got all the papers signed it was important to Sid that it was done while on this trip because he wasn't sure if they get back here before the season ended and he didn't want to do it over the summer

. After Sid says to her “want to skate a little”

“You can't stay away from the ice can you” Cassie says laughing

“Well no and also I know the little kids hockey team will be practicing and thought I surprise them and skate with them for a little bit” Sid says

“Aww baby I love that idea and love that you thought of doing that. You are just a great guy for all those kids” Cassie says

“So it's ok if we stop for a little bit” Sid asks

"Sure baby “ Cassie says smiling

The kids were shocked and excited to see Sid and he skated around with them and they were loving it Cassie took a few photos as they skated she loved seeing him like this with hockey when it didn't count for anything and was just fun. She knew how much he loved this game and how much it meant to him.

She knew he loved playing in the NHL but sometimes there was the pressures especially with being the captain of a team and all. Sid was laughing he loved being at to Be at this rink the one where it started for him watch and skating with young kids that had the same dream

. “This is what you needed to relax from the season it's still hockey but not pressure hockey” Cassie says smiling as he come off the ice

“Yeah it's this rink it's alway keep me finding peace I guess maybe because there is where it started I don't know but I don't ever want to forget this place or where I came from” Sid says

"I know and that makes me more proud of you than any trophies you win or honors you are given know that always” Cassie says

“I do baby and I get it but winning the cup be nice right” Sid says with a smirk

“Yes it has and if you will it again it will be just as nice maybe even better “ Cassie says

“It will be cause now you're my girl I get to win it for you this time” Sid says

"No win it for you and the team” Cassie says

“I’ve done that and for my parents to for everything they given me this next time I win it, it's for you baby” Sid says

“I love you baby” Cassie says

“I love you too” Sid says

They headed back to the house and cooked dinner that was how they spend the next few days at the house watching movies, cooking together enjoying each other it was just them and it was like heaven

. It was New Year's Eve and Sid told Cassie he had a few things he wanted to do around the property before they spend the evening together since they were leaving late the next day. Cassie was fine with that as she knew he only got a little time here during the season. She had a book she was reading and also had her laptop she could post and edit some photos from Christmas she needed to do.

Sid had a lot he wanted to and needed to get done before he had to run to get what he ordered for them for dinner then change. He was able to get it all done in a few hours he went and go the other stuff he needed to pick up and set up dinner on the deck near the water he has a tent with heaters set up so they wouldn't get cold having dinner outside He had told Cassie to wear something warm for dinner. He came into change and saw

Cassie was ready in her black leggings with a warm gold sweater and says “wow baby you look gorgeous

” “Thanks baby now you going to tell me what we are doing for dinner” Cassie asks

“Just let me go change “ Sid days

He went and changed and came back down and says “ready”

“Yeah” Cassie says as he takes her hand and leads her down to the deck where he has a the tent set up with lights and dinner

"Do you like it baby” Sid asks

“I love it baby this is amazing and beautiful. Was this what you were doing today” Cassie asks

“Yeah I wanted to surprise you” Sid says “That you did baby I had no idea I really thought you had stuff to take care of before we left to go back to Pittsburgh” Cassie says

“Nope just a special New Year’s Eve dinner for my girl” Sid says

"What did you get us” Cassie asks

" Chicken Parm and Pasta” Sid says as he lit the candles on the table

"From that place omg I so been wanting that's since we got here” Cassie says

Sid pours them some wine and then they eat it was so good Then Sid brought out chocolate cake for dessert “Wow all my faves baby” Cassie says seeing it “

I had to it's our first New Year’s together” Sid says

“I know the first of many” Cassie says

“Oh definitely baby” Sid says

“I know and soon it will be a new year and out with the old year but this year been so great so hate for it to end. I mean you won the cup again and World Cup of Hockey. I finally am home truly home and we are finally together” Cassie says

“Yeah it's been an amazing year” Sid says

“Yeah what's some of your fave parts of it baby” Cassie asks

“Well first and most important finally realizing my feelings for you and telling you. You actually saying you had feelings for me too and us being together. Winning the cup with my team after beginning of season didn't look promising and helping my county winning World Cup of hockey” Sid says

“All good memories” Cassie says

“Yes they are and it's almost midnight so let's make some new memories baby. Let's take a walk” Sid says

Ok baby” Cassie says taking his hand He had the lights all the way down the deck and dock in his yard it was like a winter wonderland with the snow around them

They walked down to almost the end of the dock just enjoying the view it was time for the countdown as it started to play from Sid phone he stopped and still holding her hand got down on his one knee Cassie looked shocked

“Cassie you become my best friend back when I needed one. You made me always realize what I needed at certain times. You been there for all the highs and lows. You always treated me like just me Sidney from here Cole Harbor not the hockey god everyone else thinks I am.

“ You dealt with injuries to me that others couldn't take and I will never forget those time. You been there for all the achievements and you been there when I needed comfort when things were great. I was dumb not to realize sooner that I was in love with you and I am sorry I didn't tell you sooner

“But I promise you from now on out I am always going to tell you how much I love you and how important you are to me. I promise to be with you in best of times and the worse of times. I promise to be the man need. I promise some day to be the wonder dad our kids will need. I promise to give you my whole heart and life if you will do me the honor of becoming my wife” Sid says

“God baby yes always yes I love you” Cassie says kissing him.

"God I love you too baby” Sid says kissing her back as he put the ring on her finger

“I had no idea you were going to ask me tonight does anyone else know” Cassie asks

“Geno but only because he was still bothering me about coming home to party tonight so I had to tell him my plans” Sid says

"He won't be able to keep his mouth shut” Cassie says

“Oh yes he will I promised him we could all go out to celebrate if he kept his mouth shut and I buy him his own bottle of vodka trust me he not saying anything” Sid says

“You are amazing baby I love you “ Cassie says

“I love you too baby” Sid says

“Now can we go back to the our house and ring this new year in our room” Cassie asks

“I would love that baby” Sid says kissing

her They made their way back into the house and up to their room where they had a special night making love and talking about the future.

This new year was their new begin to start their life together as a couple and plan an amazing wedding to become husband and wife and both couldn't be happier”
