Chapter 7

Canada and Birthday Fun

Cassie ended up not being able to go up to see Sid for Canada day she felt bad but she couldn't get the time off work plus at the time she really couldn't afford the ticket up. But she didn't want to tell Sid she couldn't afford to come up


Sid was disappointed but knew that Cassie has to work so it was important for her not to miss and lose her job but he wanted to see her.

Her uncle Paul knew how much she wanted to go see Sidney she had said she was able to get a few days off around his birthday and now she wish she could go up to see him they were at her grandparents house for Sunday dinner a few days before Sidney birthday her uncle says handing her an envelope “I got something for you”

“This is a ticket to Halifax two days before Sid’s birthday” Cassie says

"Yeah I had to get it for you, I know you had the next whole week off so go see him for his birthday” Paul says

“Thank you so much I have to call Sid” Cassie says

“Go” Paul says Cassie called him and prayed he answered

“Cassie hey what's up” Sid says

“What are your plans for August 5th Hockey God” Cassie asks

"Nothing maybe fishing with dad since I will be leaving for Pittsburgh the day after my birthday” Sid says

"Well could you pick me up in Halifax” Cassie says

“Really you're able to come up” Sid asks excited

“Yeah my uncle Paul surprised me with the ticket” Cassie says

"Cassie was that why you said about not coming up because of the cost of the ticket you know I would have taken care of that for you” Sid says

"Yeah and I couldn't do that I don't like taking advantage” Cassie says

“Cassie you're my best friend it wouldn't have been taking advantage and I am so happy you will be here for my birthday. And you can road trip back to Pittsburgh with me” Sid says

“That sounds like it could be fun that's works” Cassie says

“I can't wait to see you” Sid says

“I can't wait to see you too Hockey God” Cassie says

They talked a little longer and Cassie gave Sid all her flight information and times when Cassie got home that night she packed for the trip she has Sid birthday gift she was just going to give him when he got back in town

“So you riding back to Pittsburgh with Sidney” her mom asks as she was finished packing to head to the airport

“Yeah that’s ok right” Cassie says

"Yeah don't see why not as long as you are back home for work and to get moved back in the dorms” Jenna says

“Oh he said two days maybe three so I still be back a day before my vacation is over if we take three days” Cassie says

“Be careful and call me once you land at some point so I know you got there ok” Jenna says

“I promise once we are back at his parents house I will let you know” Cassie says Jenna drove Cassie to the airport and they said their goodbyes and she was on a plane to Canada

Sid couldn't wait to go meet Cassie he was getting ready to leave so he could get there early

“So is this a girlfriend” Troy asks as Sid come down ready to leave

“No we are friends dad well best friends, but just friends. She doesn't care if I am Sidney Crosby God’s gift to hockey. Although she thinks the nickname Hockey God is funny I think cause she knows I am not all about that and those things” Sid says

“We can't wait to meet her” Trina says

"Yeah we can cook out dinner when you two get back” Troy says

"Can I come with you” Taylor asks Sid

“Taylor just let Sid go to pick her up by himself” Trina says

“It's ok she can come I know Cassie been wanting to meet her so come on cause I want to get there early I don't want her having to wait” Sid says

Taylor was so excited to get to go with him to pick Cassie up

Cassie had just landed she was nervous being in the airport alone plus this would be the first time she has met his family she made her way down to baggage claim to get her one bag she had decided to check so not to have to deal with it

Sid parked and him and Taylor had made their way down to where her flights bags would come in at baggage claim As Cassie got to it she saw Sid and was more relieved cause he was there and also she wouldn't get lost trying to find him His back was to her so she sneaks up behind him covering his eyes with her hands and says “guess who Hockey God”

"God I missed you” Sid says hugging her

“I missed you too Hockey God” Cassie says

“Keep calling him that it will go to his head” Taylor says laughing

“Oh yeah Cassie this is my little sister Taylor, Taylor this is Cassie” Sid says

"Nice to meet you Taylor” Cassie says

“Nice to meet the person who puts up with my brother and is actually friends with him” Taylor says

“Tay” Sid says

“What you can be a pain to deal with she should get a medal for it especially when she just friends with you” Taylor says

Cassie just laughs

They head back to the house once there they head in to meet Sid parents Mom dad this is Cassie” Sid says

“Nice to finally meet you Cassie and thanks for being a great friend in Pittsburgh to him glad he has someone there” Trina says

"Nice to meet you too Mrs. Crosby” Cassie says

“Oh sweetie no need to be formal you can call me Trina” she says

“Ok” Cassie says

"It's good to meet you Cassie I heard you know your hockey” Troy says

"Yes sir I do and it's nice to finally meet you too” Cassie says

“No need for Sir you can call me Troy” he said

Sid took Cassie stuff up to his room as he was giving her his room and he go down to the basement to sleep

They all cooked out for a late lunch then Sid and Troy took Cassie with them fishing she didn't fish much but was willing to go since that's what they had wanted to do get one more time in before Sid left in a couple of days Cassie had fun and with help from Sid she was able to try fishing a little she actually caught something right before they were done for the day.

The next day Sid showed her around his hometown and took her to the local Ice rink where he played as a kid they had fun just hanging out

Today was Sid birthday and they had a big party planned for it as well as cause he would be leaving til next offseason now

After the first hour of the party Cassie was feeling out of place Sid was being pulled in every direction by friends and family everyone wanted some time with him today and Cassie just walked down by the water seeing Taylor down there. What are you doing down here the party up there” Cassie says

“I could ask you the same” Taylor says

"Very true” Cassie says

"So why aren't you up there” Taylor asks

"Well I just feel out of place I only know you, your parents and Sid and he getting pulled every which way” Cassie says laughing

“Sounds right since he leaves tomorrow” Taylor says

"So why are you down here getting away from it all too much to handle” Cassie asks

“No I am used to the family and some of the friends I am hiding out because there a boy I like up there” Taylor says

"Really” Cassie asks “Don't say anything” Taylor says

“I don't know anyone up there Taylor” Cassie says

“Just don't tell anyone what I tell ok” Taylor says

“Ok” Cassie says

“Nathan McKinnon he’s a hockey player younger the Sid but his family and our family are friends and him and Sid are friends” Taylor says

"Well we can hid out here together” Cassie says to her

“I’d like that” Taylor says as her and Cassie hung out there for a while til Sid finally found them after the party was winding down “Hey we were looking for you when we did the cake” he says

“Wow sorry we were down here talking and lost track of time” Cassie says

"It's ok knew today would be overwhelming for you sort of we saved you both some cake come on most of the others are gone we can have cake and the three of us can watch a movie before we go to sleep” he says

They ended up watching miracle with popcorn to share for all Of them it turned out to be one of the best things to do for his birthday better than the party earlier
