"This Spells Real Danger"

The air is crisp and brisk as the two friends dash down the streetlight-lit sidewalk in pursuit of the cat. The spot the white and sand-coloured feline dash up to the back of a black sedan, disappearing from sight.

“He went over there!” Kale throws his pointer finger toward the car. “Behind the car!”

“That must be his car,” Nolan mutters under his breath.

The two hastily approached the car and stumble to the back of the car. They stare down at the trunk of the car, spotting that it is opened.

Inside the trunk is covered with upright silver bottles, appearing exactly like the silver bottle Carter gave to Nolan.

Kale shoots the odd items in the trunk a bewildered look. “What’s this?” He then places Reid the milkshake on the asphalt, underneath the bumper of the car.

Nolan has an unamused look at the contents of the trunk with crossed arms. “His spells. Potions. Magic.” Confusion crosses his masked face. “But he made them from his own hands.” He flicks his eyes to his right to take a glance at his friend. “Unless he’s a magician.”

The bottle clink against each other as movement occurs among them. The two friends peer closer into the trunk to spot the source of the sound.

Tucked in the corner is Carter the cat, who is contently lapping a white liquid spilled from a lying bottle.

“And I guess I take one,” Nolan murmurs. He reaches over and picks up the closest one. He then takes a whiff of it, picking up sweet, smooth notes of vanilla bean. “Hm, vanilla. Much better.”

He brings the bottle up to his lips and delicately drinks it. Suddenly, a rush of green magic pulses through him, causing him to drop from sight.

Kale gasps at the disappearance of his friend. “PAT—!”

“Just what I needed,” he hears Carter say slyly from the trunk.

Kale perks up, spotting the goalie back in his human form, this time bearing the same elegant costume as Nolan.

Carter rises to his feet, takes a few steps, then leans over toward the asphalt, coming back up with a something now cradled in his arms.

In his arms is a gorgeous Asian Semi-shorthair cat with stormy blue eyes and a luscious coat of smoky white fur brushed with sand and smoky grey patches.

Rage immediately sweeps through Kale’s face as he makes the grave connection. “NO—!” Automatically, he whips out a metallic wheat stalk and swipes it at him.

Carter leans away at the swing, shielding Nolan the cat with his body. He then pulls out his closest hand from the cat and releases a blast of glimmering, liquified silver.

Kale whisks out another metallic wheat stalk and crosses the two stalks in an “X”-shape, blocking the emission.

Carter closes his fist, about to release another blast of silver, when the furry cat lashes his paw at his arm, grazing his claws through his skin.

“GAH!” The goalie jolts in the searing pain, mindlessly dropping the cat with force.

Nolan flies into the trunk, knocking over a few bottles. One of the bottles leans over the edge, letting its contents stream through the bumper and into the milkshake, which is precisely in its path.

Meanwhile, Carter releases two blasts of silver from both hands.

On the sidewalk, Kale bats the silver emission with his two metallic wheat stalks. He then charges at the goalie, morphing the two stalks into one thick, massive stalk and aiming it at him.

“ARRRHHH!!!” He jabs the stalk straight at his target.

Carter instantly blocks it with his long, razor-sharp silver bear claws.

Kale yanks his gigantic stalk back toward his shoulder before striking it back at him.

He dodges the attack effortlessly, then pops back up with a swipe from his clawed hands.

Kale blocks the claws with the side of his wheat, then swings his stalk at him for the third time.

Carter digs his claws into the stalk’s malleable side and rips it from Kale’s grasp, thrusting it out into the night sky. He then returns an attack of his own with a thick burst of silver.

Kale instantly blasts into the sky in a propulsion of fluttering wheat stalks below his feet and hands. He then leans over to get a clear bird’s eye view of his target and releases a thick shower of ordinary wheat stalks down at him.

Wispy wheat stalks flit around Carter, causing him to narrows his eyes and paws at them angrily to clear his vision. Yet the stalks continue raining down on him, giving him no chance to get a visible view of the battle.

“HUR-HUR-HURAAAHHH!!!” Tapping into his peaked sense of smell, Carter launches himself against the downpour of wheat stalks and toward the sky with a massive leap, where he senses Kale. He reaches his arms out in front of him, then wraps his arms around Kale’s torso, pulling him down with his stomach-dropping plummet.

“WHOA!” In a panic, Kale reaches out below him toward the street and sprays a voluminous amount of wheat below him, creating a pile of wheat.

The two fly into the pile, shooting fluttering wheat stalks into the air due to their rushing force.

Lying on the stack of wheat, Kale snaps his eyes up due to the sensation of a heavy presence over him. Sure enough, he spots Carter’s enraged face inches to his, feeling his heavy breaths against his face.

Carter instantly pulls his fist near his ear and drives it at him, ready to strike him with a punch.

Kale hastily grabs a fistful of wheat from the pile, feels their texture harden on his mental command, and holds the stiffen wheat stalks in front of him just as Carter’s fist lands on them.

In frustration, the goalie yanks his fist away to attempt another punch.

With this opportunity, Kale throws his two hands out into Carter’s face and releases forceful streams of flittering wheat.

Carter is immediately thrown off of him and flown into the air. He lands sharply on the asphalt on his two feet and one hand to stay on the ground.

Kale continues holding his thick emission with narrowed eyes and tensed hands.

Carter struggles to straighten up against the surge of zipping wheat stalks as they poke at his face, scratching his skin. He shuts his eyes closed, flapping his hands in front of him to avoid the uncomfortable sensation from occurring on his partially-masked face. Yet he senses the wheat mercilessly scraping his hands, tearing his focus from creating another attack or other dangers lurking.

BOOF!

Carter is immediately flung back through the air for a split second. He then crashes against the asphalt on his back.

Staring in awe at the fallen goalie is Reid, who is back in his human form. In his hand is his red straw from his Blizzard costume.

He pumps his fists in the air in victory. “I defeated him!” Bewilderment then appears on his face as he drops his fists. “I didn’t even know he’s against us!”

“Duker!”

Reid whirls around, spotting Kale rushing up to him breathlessly from his bed of wheat.

His friend halts next to him, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Oh, am I glad you’re alive.” He gazes down at Carter, who is now in a daze. “Thanks for that, I needed some help. “

Reid gives him a warm, closed smile. “Yeah, it was a piece of cake!” He drops his smile. “Now, where’s Doctor Pat?”

Kale simply points down toward the trunk that is their right. Reid follows his finger’s direction, landing his eyes on the trunk.

In the trunk is the gorgeous cat perched patiently among the silver bottles.

Reid scrunches his nose at the odd sight. “That’s not Doctor Pat, that’s a cat! And I thought I was wacky!”

With a grave expression, Kale turns to Carter. “How can Pat turn back into himself?”

On the asphalt, Carter blinks rapidly to grain a good grasp of reality. He flicks his stern eyes up at him. “It’s irreversible.”

“It can’t be!” He holds his hand out to the cat. “He has to turn back to himself!” Behind him, Reid ambles away.

“You asked. I answered.” Carter gives him a slight frown.

He reverts his hand to the goalie. “Well, make it un-irreversible.”

“‘Reversible’ is the word you’re looking for, Clague.”

“Reversible, un-irreversi-whatever!” Kale throws his hands into the air in despair. “Change him!”

He rolls his eyes with an apathetic look. “I’m fatigued. You can thank your friend for that.”
“You’re welcome!” Reid calls out from behind Kale, now being next to the cat.

Kale gapes at Carter the contradiction. “You just said it’s irreversible!”

“I thought it was already established I’m a ‘big liar’ dubbed by Nolan,” Carter states bitterly.

“Just do something! Please!” Kale holds his hands out at himself. “We need him back!”

“Good kitty…,” Reid is heard murmuring gently.

Confusion pops onto Kale’s face. “What?” He whirls around.

Standing by the trunk, Reid gingerly petting Nolan the cat’s back while the cat is lapping the content of a spilled bottle.

“Ooo, bad move,” Kale heard Carter commenting mockingly. “He just might get the wrong one.”

Kale spins back to the goalie with shock. “WRONG ONE?!”

Carter closes his eyes and says with his throat, “Mm-hm.”

Nolan the cat perks up with wide eyes. He immediately stiffens.

The goalie opens his eyes and spots the frozen cat. “Too late.”

Kale turns back around to his friend with trepidation.

Reid gazes down at the feline, utterly appalled. “Oh no, no, no, no, no…” He scoops the wide-eyed, yet unresponsive cat into his arms and cuddles him tightly against his chest. “Awake, awake, be awake…!”

Kale spins back to the goalie in a frenzy. “Do something, Carter!”

“I already told you,” he explains flatly with an irritated expression, “I’m exhausted—”

Suddenly, a ripple of green energy pulses through the defenceman and goalie. They freeze as a surging sensation rushing through them, causing discomfort and anxiety. The feeling then washes away, returning comfort and relaxation.

“Put me down!” Nolan is heard screeching.

Kale, who is now in his black cat costume, excitedly turns back around as Carter peers ahead from the ground.

Now in Reid’s arms is Nolan, who has returned to his masquerade costume, struggling to get out of Reid’s arms by pushing himself away from his friend.

“He’s back!” Reid exclaims with delight, ignoring his fuming friend in his arms.

Kale’s eyes light up at the sight of his friend in human form. “Pat!” He rushes up to him and pulls him into a side hug, stopping from his thrashing. “Oh, I’m so relieved you’re back!”

“I’m fine.” Nolan lightly pushes Kale away from him before hopping onto his feet. He then struts before his friends, approaching the goalie.

Carter is gradually getting up as the forward halts in front of him. The goalie stares at him with a hint of trepidation.

“Thanks for the scare,” Nolan tells him cooly with crossed arms. “You did well.” He then shoots him a dazzling grin. “Happy Halloween!” With that, he twirls around frisks back to his friends.

Kale and Reid take one last glance at the defeated goalie before turning around and following their friend onto the sidewalk, back to their house.
